ANNIHILATING THE RHYTHM
basically what I was trying to articulate was 'hey guys, Slave to the Rhythm by Grace Jones may just be the coolest thing.
If you can find a copy of the unabridged version it's a hilarious/brilliant listen. What other stuff of hers is worth getting? She's got me fixated.
And I only really recall Bumper.
Nightclubbing and Warm Leatherette are the most perfectly produced albums of all time.
I'll be getting those next. They are mostly cover versions aren't they? The CD versions aren't shit/edited versions of the original LPs like Slave was? If so I'll have to find the original download.
Slave to the Rhythm as an album however is just completely barmy, I love those ridiculous spoken word tracks and how comfortable she is to release something so self indulgent. It helps that the music is great.
But she does it in such a fabulous, bizarre, abstract way that it really really works. She's one of the few artists that can (and I hate this term) "make the song her own". Her version of Warm Leatherette is by far a better one than The Normals'.
I love Grace Jones
my favourite track is Nipple to the Bottle
from Living my Life which I think is my favourite LP of hers
the Sly & Robbie/Chris Blackwell produced stuff is quite a different sound from the Trevor Horne pop-sheen of Slave to the Rhythm but I think they both sit nicely with one another
I met Grace Jones once
Pretty sure it's the uncut version going by Wikipedia.
I really enjoyed it. Oddly like listening to the latest Daft Punk album, at times. (Or maybe that's not odd at all.)
