Write something in defence of a critically abused band
Oasis are fine.
Stop hating on a band who last dominated cultural discourse 15 years ago - it's a waste of energy.
They lived within their means and made great pop music between 1994 and 1996. It's what happened shortly after when they lived beyond it that was a bit of a problem. However, far more damage was done to British music towards the end of the nineties by their contemporaries, who thought - "Right! We've got a golden opportunity to kill the king by making groundbreaking music but we can't be arsed, let's be his servants, and write dour, depressing third-rate pub rock with a hint of faux bleakness!" Even the Manics weren't completely innocent of that - some of This is My Truth.. despite the savage beauty of Ready For Drowning etc. is just vague pish.
