lol sick burn
every few months someone says this, yet have still to this day never heard a band actually singing in a fake american accent
Especially stuff like "Waiting on a Friend"!!
◦ stoke minor controversy in broadsheets with mild pop at other, more well known band ✔
Alex Turner... eh?
(and I say that as a massive WB fan)
Southern? New York? Boston?....which one? :)
this link in the comments is quite interesting http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/08/why-british-singers-lose-their-accent-when-singing/
As it surely points to Wild Beasts as being the fakers rather than AM or whoever else
"Yet another example is Adele, who has a lovely speaking voice"
they prob shouldn't wine about people not singer naturally.
The other point is that you don't naturally sing in your speaking accent. All those landfill indie bands from a few years ago that did terrible sing talking in english accentwere awaful.
When you sing you stretch out vowel sounds etc to make the melody so it's not going to sound like yout speaking accent which will be much more clipped.
Plus bands who band on about how singing in their own accents cos it gives them authenticity are terrible.
that explains it better
Full of beauty with an almost infinite amount of possibility and this is something this cunt chooses to write a lyric about? Cunt.
Cunt is one of their little nippers surely?
it's the Beckhams who name their kids after where they were conceived isn't it
instead of just someone who sings like an insufferable prick. The Smiths 'mysticising' Manchester; jesus what a load of bunk
as he seems to be referring to the AM americanising their 'sound' rather than their vocal accents specifically.
'taking a swipe' at Arctic Monkeys. It's actually the interviewer that entertains that idea only for Hayden to say 'yeah i guess' or whatever. Jesus it looks like a legit discussion turned into a bullshit 'story'.
went alone to a Spoons in the middle of the woods to record a Cockney knees-up with just an old pianah
Even their joke songs were fecking ace (with a few exceptions).
There are certain genres that are traditionally sung in American accents, that said I do like it when bands sing in their own accents.
Anyway, a couple of non American artists who play country with American accents- First Aid Kit and Laura Marling. I found it a bit distracting when I saw this on Jools Holland
their position seems rather reasonable and qualified
'you're not from new york city, you're from rotherham'
that is just how their singing voice comes out, certain sounds just come out American. Maybe by just listening to so much American music I guess. Then some do it on purpose and it sounds ridiculous, but that is generally bad pop punk bands and Busted.
London accents. Doesn't really bother me. It's the least of my issues with them.
Bring on the album, the we'll talk.
