  • Just trying to fill up my diary with gigs ...

... but it's slim pickings living in Reading. Just Laetitia Sadler at South Street in the diary at the moment.

Have largely given up with London gigs unless it's something I really want to see. Missed too many headliners having to get the last train from Dalston or Hackney to get back to Paddington in time. So just Teeth of the Sea & Evil Blizzard this w/e and Bill Callahan next month in the diary at the moment.

Further afield I've got Bob Log III in Guildford (not until May), Wave Pics in Brighton, and will probably try and go do Fat White Family in Oxford next month too.

Anything else fun that Reading people want to recommend that's close-ish?

    prob500 | 8 Jan '14, 20:02 | X
    • isn't there still a late train back from Paddington?

used to be a couple around 1-2am...

      lemonbrickcombo @prob500 | 9 Jan '14, 09:14 | X
      • there's one at 3 something

but it takes an hour and if you've got work the next morning it's not really the nicest thing :/

        plasticniki @lemonbrickcombo | 9 Jan '14, 09:24 | X
        • The train service from Paddington to Reading

is actually extremely good. Unfortunately Paddington is on the wrong wide of London for where the vast majority of quality gigs happen. To get out of Dalston (for example) to arrive in to Reading at 1 (home at half 1) I need to leave Dalston at 11. If I leave Dalston at half 11 it's home at 3am. Not very rock n roll, but I usually choose to miss 30 mins of a headliner to get 2 hours more sleep before alarm at 7am.

It's why I choose to go to more gigs around the M25 - eg. Guildford, St Albans than in London.

          prob500 @plasticniki | 9 Jan '14, 12:09 | X

  • I moved to Lancaster in Septemer so needless to say, very few :(

These New Puritans at the Barbican, mid-April
Primavera Sound (first time I've been able to go back in four years!)

Need to make friends with people in Manchester as I want to go to Parquet Courts in Feb but last train back is like 10pm. Seriously annoying.

  • Malkmus and the Jicks at the Brudenell next Monday

Cate le Bon at the Brudenell
Bill Callahan at Leeds Irish Centre
    St. Vincent at Manchester Cathedral
    Of Montreal at Manchester Gorilla

    2014 looking great so far!

    February
    Motorhead @ Brixton Acadmey
BRMC @ Electric Ballroom (which I now can't go to)

    March
    65daysofstatic @ Koko

    April
    Tim Hecker/Merzbow @ Oval Space
    These New Puritans @ Barbican

That's it. Although seeing ^upthread that Forest Swords is touring, might score tickets for his St Lukes date.

  • Trying not to go to too many this year

Saving up for Primavera/another potential holiday/moving to Glasgow so it's taking a bit of a backseat compared to the last two years. This thread is making me sad at that, so many good gigs I didn't even know about.

    Stephen Malkmus/Joanna Gruesome @ Oran Mor 14/1
Neutral Milk Hotel @ Barrowlands 19/5
    Mac Demarco @ Mono 20/5
    Primavera Barcelona

    Considering:

Danny Brown @ the Arches 26/2
British Sea Power @ Liquid Room 6/4
