What lots of people are talking about when they complain about the lack of 'guitar music' is lad rock.
'indie' music albums I liked this year, that's sure.
.. maybe a lot less lad rock?
I think we can blame Mumford and Sons for this.
Let's have a look at the DiS users top 10 as some sort of measure:
The National - never listened to them, don't think they're a guitar band
Jon Hopkins - no
Vampire Weekend - koras, mandolins and sitars, but nothing so boring as a conventional guitar
Los Campsenisososos! - never listened to them, they sound dreadful by how people describe them on here, but they probably do have a guitar somewhere
Boards of Canada - looped recording of a guitar from a 1978 tv infomercial doesn't count
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - first proper guitar band to make the list
TNP - loads of tubas, no guitars
Future of the left - guitar band number 2
Arcade Fire - have a keytar, no guitar
Kanye West - no guitars.
I don't think 2 and a half guitar bands means that the guitar has suddenly come back into vogue. Then again, who ever accused a Disser of being cool?
the new one direction album proves this
has always been cool
