Which do you pick?
Who'd wanna be stuck listening to what that miserable little shit liked for the rest of his life?
everything you've loved in your entire life up to now but nothing new OR free access to everything new now and forever more, but nothing written/released up to this point?
so it's probably be done on here about 20 times already
I suppose the gamble is: have the best songs I'll ever hear in my life already been written or are they yet to come? Given the fact that the latter would entail never hearing Lady Cab Driver by Prince again, I'm gonna be boring and stick with the past over all that bright, shiny future potential.
but someone has responded by saying it's been done 20 times already
some Sheryl Crow vinyl, a Blameless EP, Roxette's Greatest Hits, the first 3 Ace of Base albums and a tape by Undercover.
If you still love something you loved from your teenage years, surely you can still listen to it either way? So therefore anyone not voting 'now' is mental. Unless you mean you can only listen to stuff you discovered after 18.
I could have done a better job with the syntax but the question is adequately clear
Do you mean 'the music I love now' or the 'music I love that I have discovered since my 18th birthday'? I honestly don't know.
I pointedly didn't this that nasty post about you, man :(
I'd go with the future. I've spent most of my life listening to old music and it's difficult to still be excited by something after you've heard it 1000+ times or whatever. Even if it is "Gimmie Shelter".
but without the Gimme Shelter example
most the music i loved when i was 13-18 was shit britpop. I even though i still like sleeper and kenickie, i would rather have acid mothers temple and Sunn O))) thanks.
wedding present - seamonsters and new kingdom - cheap thrills
so completely the now / or the future for your second question.
A lot of the pleasure I get from music is finding new things to love and I certainly prefer contemporary music over older music. About 60% - 70% of what I listen too these days is Neo-Classical Ambients stuff this wasn't really a genre 5 years ago.
I see them mentioned on here so infrequently that I need to know this information please...
but usually only make it as far as repeating unicorns for horses and maybe kickin' like bruce lee. New Kingdom supporting Wedding Present still my favourite gig memory.
I thought there might be an album out there that I wasn't aware of :(
Because you're not really, truly, in love with music unless you move forward and discard what came before.
However, I'd take the level of passion/enthusiasm/obsession I had about music at that younger age.
I would choose the music from 13-18. Sure, I listened to loads of rubbish in that period but that was when I devoured all the classics and explored music properly. The music I love now tends to be new stuff mainly and I still get just as excited and passionate about it, don't get me wrong. But if for the rest of my life I can only listen to 'the canon' rather than current stuff it's an easy choice.
So I'm giving up all of hip hop other than a couple of records, most of electronic music since 94, forays into classical and jazz. I lose my current fave bands (that hurts) and all the opportunity for hearing the cutting edge.
I'm gaining the best records the teenage me could get my hands on from the past (plus dodgy mid-90's stuff). I think I'll take the best of the past rather than the best of the current in a nut shell.
