What's the best album for a noob? Or does anyone have a good spotify 'best of' or sutin?
unless you have done that already of course.
There's no definitive SKM record, and there's nothing which dips below very good. There's no real 'journey' for want of a better word either, Kozelek was a fully-formed songwriter already. The records, for me, are all solid 8.5/10s and none feel vastly different to the others. Personally, though, i heard 'Tiny Cities' first and was hooked. I guess you could argue it's the most accessible record seeing as he's covering someone elses songs.
then he gets really boring
And I thought the same about Among The Leaves, but that grew on me quite a lot. Bit sprawling and weird in places. April has Moorestown on it, which is bloody lovely.
BUT i've got to second steinbolt's notion above - the best thing to do with kozelek is start at the beginning and just gradually work through the whole back catalogue starting at down colorful hill. chances are you'll get stuck in the second painters album for about a year though.
lovely stuff. I can see why it's held in such high regard.
I've never been hugely into folky kinda music but this ticks a lot of boxes.
I'll go back to the RHP stuff and see how I get on from the start.
the second (double) album is one of the best things I've ever heard. It slays every time.
