What Goes Boom indeed
but they seem to be losing a lot of goodwill. I dunno. strange goings-on
this headline brought to you by 1993.
Whole thing is just going to be a Frank Black solo album in all but name.
Way to besmirch the legacy there, guys.
Ding Archer played bass on EP1.
I'm glad the Pixies reunited in 2004. They deserved a victory lap. But they should have knocked it on the head straight after.
I considered going to see them, but I really don't think much of their new material. And they sounded poo on Jools Holland.
Plus, I listened to the Pixies so much in my late-teens, that they've worn a groove in my mind. Their 80s/90s stuff is so familiar to me now, that listening to it is like listening to the wind or the creaking floorboards in my childhood home. I appreciate it, but I can't engage with it.
and less the case of a band band that should stop touring
1) Their new stuff is nowhere near as good as their 80s/90s stuff, and the lack of one of their most instrumental/charismatic members makes the whole enterprise seem a little pointless anyway. The only dignified options would be to either buckle down and make some amazing new music with Deal, or go their separate ways.
2) I still respect their old stuff a lot, and I can still hear it in unexpected contexts and think 'fuck yeah, the Pixies were great' (Indie Cindy is never going to do that to me), but it usually has the same effect that Hey Joe or Stairway To Heaven has. Over familiarity has killed it.
But my first point does, I think. Anyway, I'm not anti-Pixies by any means.
I saw them the other week and she sounded really good.
that Kim Gordon gets the nod this time
"frat-boys". She isn't a fan.
I forget how that's pertinent to this discussion, but it does seem like 99% of girls who are into indie-rock own a Sonic Youth t-shirt.
Any Muffs fans here? One of my best friends loves them, but a bit too punk-pop for me.
But I doubt it. Breeders are going back on the road for some more LSXX shows soon, I think.
I didn't realise they were so... bald
