“Undisputable songwriting prowess, packed with tight melodies, feisty guitar jabs, and inescapably catchy harmonies, a pop/rock treasure”
“one of America’s greatest songwriters” “8/10”
Mark Beaumont - NME
‘’Being awestruck while staring out onto a dusty prairie.’’
“Benson has brushed perfection”
Momentously adored songwriter and producer BRENDAN BENSON returns with his 6th executive album entitled ‘YOU WERE RIGHT’, out 25th November on LOJINX in the UK & Europe. Recorded at BENSON’s Nashville-based Readymade Studios, the album is hot on the heels of 2012's "What Kind Of World" long player. As most are already aware BRENDAN BENSON is a co-founding member of supergroup The Raconteurs, co-fronted by Brendan and Jack White (The White Stripes), well known for their no.1 smash hit single “Steady as she Goes”. BENSON has also released 5 critically acclaimed solo albums throughout the 90’s & 00’s. ‘YOU WERE RIGHT’ is gaining a huge amount of attention from both Radio and Press; obtaining full reviews in MOJO, NME, The Guardian and Uncut alongside vast Radio coverage including a half hour interview with BRENDAN BENSON on Absolute Radio.
Born on the 14th November 1970 in Royal Oak, Michigan, BRENDAN’s musical approach is meticulous, craftsman like, fastidious, being cited as one of the greatest American songwriters according to Mark Beaumont of the NME. Influenced by Elvis Costello, The Beatles and David Bowie to mention a few, his music is charged with hooks and wit. Never failing to capture the attention of the critical plaudits there has always been something quite brilliant, quite burnished about his songwriting. Benson has also produced albums for Eric Burdon & The Greenhornes, Willy Mason and Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons and has collaborated with Loretta Lynn, The White Stripes, Adele, The Stooges, Jake Bugg and many more.
With his debut album, ‘One Mississippi’, released on Virgin Records in 1996, Benson grew accustomed to doing things alone proving himself not only as a great songwriter but multi-instrumentalist as well. Following up his debut with ‘Lapalco’ in 2002 and alternative to ‘Love’ in 2005, he took a brief hiatus touring and releasing two albums with the Raconteurs. This perhaps also marked the beginning of a change: the catalyst that would set in motion the events and relationships that would inspire his last album “What Kind of World” (LOJINX 2012).
BRENDAN BENSON has just come off his UK & European Tour alongside Lojinx label-mates the FUTURE MONARCHS who supported him throughout. Originally from Chicago the group came together combining Lord’s polished hook-infused pop with Anderson’s earnestly organic singer/ songwriter romanticism. Influenced by 60’s British Invasion pop, Laurel Canyon folk and indie rock, their debut E.P entitled “Weird Weather” released on the 19th August features six excellently crafted tracks: Evil Art, Landslide, My Old Ways, Cigarette Smoke and Lydia. Gaining national radio and press support throughout the U.K. Expect impending updates about BRENDAN BENSON and his exciting new album ‘YOU WERE RIGHT’.
