Well, I just hope he's joking. He is joking, right?
Kanye: I wanna make a video for Bound 2
Universal excutive: That single and album already bombed Kanye, we ain't giving you no more cash.
Kanye: I don't do singles.
Universal: Right... **cough** idiot **cough**
Kanye: *mumbles something about needing to make one of the greatest videos of ALL TIME*
Universal: Ok we'll give you $800 and a studio with a green screen.
Kanye: IMA GENIUS.
So Lady Gaga got Jeff Koons in to do the artwork for her (bomb even though it's no. 1) album Artpop.
Kanye being Kanye, he just can't be one-upped, so he's gone and made his own Jeff Koons. In particular, his take on the Made in Heaven series, where he posed with his porn-star then wife: http://www.theworldsbestever.com/2010/10/14/installation-view-jeff-koons-made-in-heaven-series-major-paintings/
Could just be me, but given Kanye's self-concious 'I am architecture/art/a god" outbursts, I certainly wouldn't put it past him...
Even if he is joking, this is a travesty. Crap song too.
that this actually exists.
Pretty much confirmation that Kanye's gone a bit shit when he can't even do Kanye-by-numbers properly.
(new site won't let me 'this')
"I wanna fuck you hard on the sink
After that, give you something to drink
Step back, can't get spunk on the mink"
The video makes it seem like it, with the melodramatic imagery, etc.
Certainly not when placed in context on the album.
The video is fuck-knows what but like I said in the other thread, I don't want to live in a world where a video featuring Kanye fucking his reality star wife on a motorbike in front of cheap looking green-screen cheesy environmental scenes is considered anything other than amazing entertainment.
What would Jeromey Romey Romey Rome think?
surprised by the reception on here though.
not artistic, not ironically wacky man!!!11 awesome huehuehue!!1211, just shit. shit.
He kind of knows his life and his current position in the musical firmament is ludicrously rare and I can't help but feel he's made this incredibly narcissistic, ridiculous video pointing fun at himself and his image a bit.
anyone that thinks otherwise..... don't agree and thats fine by me :)
if there was actually any evidence of Kanye West having a sense of humour or a modicum of self-awareness.
His fans wheel this excuse out every time he does something that makes him look a bit of a twat. Which is often.
a sense of humour and a ton of self awareness. More than I've seen from anyone else in similar circumstances. The self doubt and awareness comes out in his lyrics and interviews. The humour, the same but also videos like this one! Might be a particular kind of humour though...
so he often plays up to it.
And most Kanye fans happily admit he acts like a wally sometimes. It's part of why we love him.
Not denying he's a talented musician, but I don't think he's half as complex a personality as some folk make out. Let's face it, he's always been wrapped up in crass popstar excess and if you're seeing nods and winks I think you're looking too hard for it.
For all the alpha male braggadocio there's a guy there who has doubts about his life, doubts about his place in society and how he has attained this incredibly high, exalted status while many of his kin are treated the same as they ever were.
I'm not denying he acts like a bellend sometimes, or justifying his behaviour, but he's not totally one-dimensional.
and then there's being massively business-minded and materialistic, being completely up one's own arse and shitting on your audience by constantly rubbing your success and social standing in their face. I remember when those things were generally seen as negative character traits, guess I'm just a bit old-fashioned eh
is a bit like me in a Morrissey one. and I've learnt the best response there is to a take a step back from all those crazy fools.
and that's the way I like it.
Great song, obv - in context of the album it makes total sense to be a filthy stab at love. Yeesus is all about the crassest, angriest parts of him and this song, the album closer, is some positive release without completely putting his bad traits aside.
The video's hilarious. I can't believe people can watch it and not realise he, as stated above, has masses of humour and self-awareness. Although - I do think the coolest thing about him is he'll neither confirm or deny whether he's having people on.
Massively reminds me of the way James Ellroy pretends to be a racist, right-wing born again psychopath, screaming: 'any woman who's not in love with me is a DYKE' and what-not in interviews, despite clearly being an incredibley perceptive, gifted and empathic writer. Although, some people buy into all that shit too. Whatever.
quite like the song as a closing piece for the record.
but if I listen to it outside of that context it sounds like really atonal and horrible. that sped-up sample in particular is really grating.
