A blanket ban on camera phones or IPads
maybe I don't live in Cooltown but i've never seen anyone holding up an ipad at a gig
I, sadly, have.
Interesting
Genre - Hardcore
Artist - Nils Frahm
Cost - £0.79
Attractions - Coconut shy, bobbing for apples, teacup ride...
Seriously, consider your research methods before posting stuff like this. You'll fuck your research more than you'll help it.
yeah but shouts out to the guy who wants an iphone ban nonetheless
enjoy Laibach at East Germany Fest, fascist
dance routines
lighting
drum machines
do you mean The Knife
Hi 4h4m1
Happy to help you with your survey I know how these things can go sometimes what with the internet etc.
Preferred genre: Nu-Nu-Metal
Preferred artists: Bon Iver & Genesis (collab project pref.)
How much I would expect to pay: £12 + £8 booking fee + £4 P&P
Other Attractions: Megafobia, Speed, Nutty Jake's Gold Mine, Vertigo Sky Coaster... What I'm saying is, Oakwood. It should be at Oakwood. If it's at Oakwood, you don't even NEED bands.
No, thank YOU
Is that the Bon Iver show where he walked onstage to a sold-out crowd?
sausage on a stick
always think 65daysofstatic do well
great headline act, good choice of support act, with sometimes a local 3rd support too. at mid to small sized venues. tickets under £15 added bonus of 65dos mixtape between bands.
your other requests.. preferred genre is (imo) bullshit. most people like more than one genre and a good gig can have several types of genres/acts sharing the stage.
fucked up seem to do good gigs too.
What makes a good gig to me:
-A good balance of old favorite and new songs
-Good stage banter
-A crowd that's very happy to see the band
-On a Friday night so that I don't have to worry about it going too late and not getting home, or having to leave early
-Not too many super-bros, who insist on getting drunk and yelling
-A solid opener that people know well enough to respect and not talk through
Essentially, my ideal gig is the two-night run that Los Campesinos! did here last year with Parenthetical Girls.
a sold-out audience
simple:
decent ticket price, generous shot size at the bar, boss between-the-sets music, good weed, a band rockin it like they're supposed to.
The barrowlands
thanks to everyone for their replys. this is all different to what i expected!
few beers and that
£5,000
90s pop revival bands
No alcohol at the bar
No PA system, let the amps do all the work
Strictly no dancing, singing or talking
you're welcome
no alcohol
you what
BYO
I never knew the Taliban liked Doop.
Serious answer...
A good gig is always made by the atmosphere - if people are excited to see the band and the band respond by playing really well then it can be electric. I prefer up-tempo gigs so rocky or dancy acts where people can dance or jump around helps.
In terms of the venue I like it to be busy but not rammed so that you can't move around freely. A delicate balance between people having fun and messing around versus twattish behaviour that effects others negatively. Adequately staffed bars to allow the free flow of alcohol.
Oh, to answer your other questions - I'd like to pay around £15 - £20 for a gig ideally but accept that for bigger acts this isn't realistic anymore. Other attractions?? A bar. A merch stall. A support act. I couldn't believe how many food stalls there were at Ally Pally this week, wtf is that all about? Who goes to a gig to fucking eat? Bizarre.
I liked the real ale bar though.
If I'm going to spend £4.80 on a pint, at least it's a nice pint.
because there's nowhere around there to eat, it makes sense to have them
also it's used for other stuff, exhibitions and record fairs and that, not just gigs.
bloody smells though. not keen on grease-stink while i'm trying to concentrate on the best band in the world, thanks.
really shit sole support band you've seen before and hated
so you miss them and find out stage times. hang out in a park with tinnies and get into venue 10 mins before headliners start (headliner that you either love or know most of the songs in their set), get a pint from a bar (venue can't be more than 2/3rds full for this to be a quick process), be at a venue where you can see stuff from anywhere, get a non-hectic spot where you can hang out and have a good time, rock out.
or a seated gig with no support, like the mogwai zidane one.
i would obviously love a killer bill (best i've ever seen in terms of venue and every band being BOSS was part chimp/hey colossus/palehorse at the lexington) but i'm totally over waiting around for bands to start now and then being a bit bored when they play anyway. i save up checking out "new stuff" for atp coz i'm a bit of a dick who can't be bothered anymore.
being in one crowded place standing for 3 or so hours is totally rubbish unless it's a killer small venue where you can easily go out for a smoke between bands and not get stressed out. or it's seated.
What makes a great gig?
I don't know but the best gigs usually have a higher ratio of bearded males to females.
Sadly.
^^Big fan of bearded ladies
a tombola
splat the rat
wanking for coins
mashed potato eating contest
+ Boxcar Racer, this Friday, $15, Rontoms
not getting elbowed in the boob
Which one?
its normally the left one
if im holding a drink or my bag in my right arm that normally stops it
when the national are on stage
No new stuff, no obscure covers, no forgotten album tracks.
JUST THE HITS, THE WHOLE HITS AND NOTHING BUT THE HITS.
good band playing well
nice ideas everyone, keep em comin!
after the arcade fire gig on sat night at the barrowlands i'd now maybe add a dress code of:
fancy dress & formal wear! :)
I know that's never going to really happen again but it really added to the whole experience of the gig, lovely to see everyone making the effort.
babes and beejs
good sound
accessible bar(s)
over by 11pm
i'm easily pleased.
Some already mentioned
But good sound quality - it's nice to be able to pick out all of the instruments and the vocals without it sounding like a muddy mess.
