Laurel Halo - Chance of Rain

Joseph_SP [Edit] [Delete] 8 replies 13:15, 5 November '13

Have we had a thread about how brilliant this is? Seem to remember we did but can't find it. But anyway, jeez, this is a brilliant, brilliant album. This is what dance music should sound like in 2013. Rich, complex, weird without ever losing sight of the floor. Why are we putting up with Disclosure? Why isn't Laurel Halo killing it in the clubs? (Though, maybe she is, I haven't been clubbing for about 5 years.)

  • Having seen Laurel Halo a number of times

it's quite obvious why she isn't killing it in the clubs (as popular as she is in that sphere). As much as I enjoy watching her sets, they're quite fractured and not exactly made for dancing. Still worth seeing her though, if just to hear her stuff on a proper system.

Love the records – new one is brilliant.

    • lots of this^

saw her on Saturday night and while I'm massively respectful of what she does ...and she is clearly completely completely into it and doesn't give a fuck (which is great to see) you can't really dance to it ..or at least I couldn't - it just doesn't quite flow into whatever receptors I have that are plugged into my dancing bits

couple of my friends absolutely went apeshit for it though - but they're German

most of the crowd looked a little awkward

      • I’ve seen her live too

and found her immensely danceable (but I was very, very pissed...)

  • I love a lot of her EPs but I was put off so much by the vocals on quarantine I'm wary of picking this one up

can anyone confirm that I should reconsider this...?

    • I didn't mind the vocals on quarantine

but I think you'll like this as it's much closer to the sound of her earlier EPs and, if I remember correctly, entirely instrumental.

      • oooooooooo I hated quarantine

and I'm not normally one to flinch at 'non standard' singing, something just put my teeth right on edge there.

But anyway, yay, will have to check it out. LOVED through the green door.
