how do we feel about this?
been to this place before, didn't even know it was an indie club.
I think he's an excellent writer, and while this video series started brightly the last two have been shit.
I think he's a better writer than documentary maker, but he has time to learn it.
The night in chosen was a soft target but it's also clear that the very idea of an 'indie night' has totally lost currency. Probably caused by a combination of the (likely cyclical) decline of indie/guitar music, the splintering/broadening/shallowing of tastes caused by the internet, and a general decline in that sort of nightlife in general.
The memory of After Skool really rinsing brand new indie hits, and the palpable wave of excitement that was generated, seems hard to picture now (especially as there is no big credible - or semi-credible - indie night left in London). Or maybe I'm just getting old!
and the £2 pints and the total fucknuts ( (c) joeymahone) that used to go there.
(i don't miss the hangovers or having to clean snakebite off my shoes on a Sunday afternoon)
...even though I think Clive Martin is a great writer
hope he runs out of ideas and comes to a noise night ^__^
and thought it was going to be a thread about something good :(
