Listening now. It's goddamn beautiful, OBVIOUSLY. Curious to hear what everyone thinks.
very chilled and confident sounding
it's been awhile since I've listened to Four Tet but I tend to remember his music sounding far more 'busy' whilst this sounds quite unhurried and relaxed.
nice - i liked it - nothing mind blowing, but yeah good, might need a couple more listens to sink in properly.
as wewerewerewolvesonce says up there, unhurried and relaxed.
7/10 on first listen
I think his releases get better and better
And not unlike a lot of his recent stuff a[art from the last couple which hark back to his earlier ambient materials. Really like it especially the opening 3 tracks and the last couple. This vocal manipulation/ chopping seems a very contemprary trope. Notice OPN doing it for the last couple of releases too.
I like it.
..but is there another reason why the fanfare behind these last two albums has been a lot less pronounced than for Rounds or There is Love in You?
While his name seems to have grown in stature, particularly in the club world, it seems he's almost taken for granted as an artist and was seen as more vital, and more hype worthy a few years back. Or maybe that's just his intention.
Anyway, thanks for the link, will listen tonight.
and dropping releases out of nowhere these days. Get the impression he has little to no interest in marketing/ hype etc.
it seems to me like he's established enough to not have to get involved in the marketing side too much, just gets on with his job really
which is respectable too.
and the upcoming 8am to 8pm sunday gig at the end of the month, (these might be normal, but I've not heard of them), i love his attitude
they had the vinyl of this new record up for a couple of quid more than other record shops, so he tweeted them, saying that if they don't reduce the price (they're all getting it for the same prince from the wholesaler or whoever) they'd never get any of his future records. the man is a genuine HERO.
regardless of how many times I've seen him.
absolute wankers. don't know why anyone shops there
Though rarely ever bought anywhere there anyway.
He consistently delivers the goods.
Difficult to tell after one listen, but it's definitely up there with his best for me. Probably not quite as good as There Is Love In You
seems to have been taken down?
it's bloody brilliant. To start with I actually thought a lot of the tracks were a little short but it does flo really well.
in case anyone hasn't heard it yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AzoOZri8Bg
Perfect mix of chilled stuff and 'bangers'. Pink was a bit too dance music for me - I found myself getting pretty bored of the songs halfway through. Fair enough though seeing as it was a compilation of 12s made for DJing. Like people have said above, big fan of his attitude re: pricing, press etc.
(I thought Pink was great too fwiw, and was a direction he kind of needed to go in, even though it was a compilation).
but bought it on vinyl yesterday. Haven't done that in years. Felt really good.
