(Arcade Fire / 3 albums) / (Radiohead / 8 albums) x Hyperbole = Wet Bed
What do Radiohead have to do with anything?
in its right place
More trad, less experimental, more tediously over hyped by every media outlet. Also the fact that their new single features Bowie AND is produced by James Murphy cranks the hype machine up a notch.
I like their first two albums mind...
I have never liked Arcade Fire, often have struggled to see what the fuss is about, but if you like them I'm not going to argue with you.
is more overrated than Radiohead
Which acts get just about the right amount of praise/criticism? That's what I want to know.
and Built To Spill
They're fucking great.
seriously though, Arcade Fire seem to have that same core audience that are horrified when someone suggests one of their releases is less than a 10/10. which is fair enough with Radiohead as every album they've put out is a 10/10 but my point is
Where I have no idea if people are trolling or not.
Because despite having all three albums and having been to see them twice, I just can't get Arcade Fire to click. I love some individual songs - Rebellion (Lies), Keep the Car Running, Antichrist Television Blues, We Used to Wait - but just can't fall in love with the albums, and somehow the live shows have left me cold.
Maybe I came in too late, after there had been too much hype (only first saw them a few years ago) and the reality couldn't match up to my expectations. The Suburbs seemed rambling and too long. Some great songs, but some mediocre ones as well.
Whatever the reason, yes, I agree with Sean's OP - definitely overrated (although still a good band for sure).
as they sounded like they'd been listening to a lot of New Order & Bunnymen. By the second album they sounded like they'd been listening to Springsteen, which is a huge negative in my book, and the third was a tedious attempt at making the Great American Rock Album. The most overrated band since REM.
Radiohead can be insufferable, but at least they're trying to do interesting stuff. Arcade Fire just take really middle-of-the-road, Coldplay melodies and meaningless lyrics, stick a few weird flourishes over them and everyone goes wild. I don't get it at all.
you should be dragged through a bush backwards for writing such nonsense.
You'd get twigs in the face and stuff.
has been my favourite narrative on the boards recently.
If the guy can't troll on his own website now. If I owned the site, I'll troll every day!
I like evil Sean, bring it on.
Radiohead are very Home Counties.
But i tend to generally distrust anyone who is a massive fan of either band.
they don't have Thom Yorke in their line up
'wow, this is extraordinary' fucking rinsed that albums for months. 'yeah I'll dig an tunnel, from my window to yours'
Neon Bible was a bit shit, but overall, they're some of the best cats out there
So I'll just say "No"
I adore them both.
And I'm not deluded, sheep-like or trying to be cool in any way.
End of message.
is how many columns will be taken up going crazy over a new Arcade Fire album at the same time so many great albums are being released and overlooked. I like Arcade Fire but the amount of acclaim and fetishizing they get isn't even close to being equal to how exciting a band they are. I guess I just don't get how some great albums come out and disappear without another word while certain bands not nearly as good inspire a feeding frenzy.
I'd say Arcade Fire, and Radiohead, at least back it up creatively compared to the derivative, PR-led, shit that fills the broadsheets and mainstream radio stations most of the time.
As it's all Arcade Fire have and let's face it, nothing really worth listening to by Radiohead after them (yeah, that's right, deal with it).
Funeral v Pablo Honey - Arcade Fire rain punch after punch to the lungs making you scream track after track of anthems, Radiohead have their defences up landing a few tunes / sucker punches to the bedwetters heart between filler. 1-0
Neon Bible v The Bends - Radiohead rock the shit out of the place, Fire get all moody and sulk in the corner between bouts. 1-1
The Suburbs v OK Computer - NO CONTEST, it's an upper cut to the face, music became something else while the Fire tread old ground like a punch drunk romantic.
The heavyweight greatest records:
Funeral v OK Computer - Tough competition given the time passed since these heavyweights met on the turntable. History and posterity says OKC, heart says Funeral in this points decided draw. The judges give it to Radiohead for time passed holding the record up. 0-1.
The Suburbs v The Bends - Arcade Fire play the long game jabbing into the ribs and slowly developing a record to love over time. Radiohead have huge swings of right rocking powerhouses which ocasionally connect but over time tire them out for a record that no-one really listens to nowadays. Arcade Fire take it 1-1.
Neon Bible v Pablo Honey - Creep and Anyone Can Play Guitar hurt the Fire badly in round 2, proper winded but there's consistent punches of Keep the Car Running, No Car Go, Intervention - consistency means AF take this round 2-1
WINNER: ARCADE FIRE
listen to The Bends than The Suburbs nowadays.
