Album streaming here now: http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2013/sep/03/janelle-monae-electric-lady-album-stream?CMP=twt_gu
the album aims to be a "soundtrack for the Obama era, something that spoke to the beautiful, majestic and revolutionary times that we're living in."
If ever an artist could put you off listening to their new album.
could put me off listening to this album
that's a trick ^this link everyone.
Now I shall hear with mine ears!
Prince is on this!
Had a big smile on my face throughout. Last track of the suite sounds like an audition for a Bond theme (this is no bad thing).
Onto Suite V.
. . . are those interstitials with the DJ guy, if only because he has the misfortune of reminding me of the endlessly irritating DJ Atomika from Burnout Paradise.
These just take me out of the album.
Third time through now and I think I'm going to put it on again
Christ I love that Miguel song.
but it all sounded good to these ears
I think that might be the first time I've ever seen Letterman genuinely enjoy a performance on his show.
When can I see her live?
I'm still absolutely loving The Electric Lady, I was a huge fan of The ArchAndroid (probably up with my favourites of all time) and this definitely lives up to it.
I've written up a fairly in-depth review over on The Spiral Groove if anyone fancies a read - there's a lot to say about an album this rich and dense! Always interested to hear any thoughts or feedback anyone might have on it, thanks:
have no idea why i hadn't got round to it yet, The ArchAndroid was pretty much as tight as an album like that could be. She is super.
Shame cos the single w Badu was so good.
Fantastic, one of the best of the year. Especially the song with Prince.
