Off to see them tomorrow night, mucho excited! :)
it was staggeringly, heart-swellingly brilliant. Without wishing to sound like him off The Hold Steady, "there's just so much joy up there on stage." God it was good.
Can't wait, have seen st vincent a few times and she is always fucking immense and every time i go i fall in love with her!
Have never seen david byrne before even though i am a huge fan as well. Cannot wait!!!
So very very excited. Looks likely that they will play This Must be the Place.
absolutely perfect setting for it. I was a bit worried before the show yesterday, thought it was too expensive, and that I didn't really 'get' St Vincent, and the crowd looked a bit mumsy and a bit James May, but dear sweet lord it was just the best two hours.
Ludicrous choreographed eight-piece brass section (complete with pogoing sousaphone player) drums and keys. Impossible not to fall in love with Annie Clark, sings like Bjork, shreds like Prince, skitters about like a future robot ballerina, and grins like a bastard at the thrill of playing these amazing songs. And Dave. Dave is brilliant. Part pottering community-theatre group leader and part intergalactic rock super star who seems to just really enjoy, you know, singing. It's fucking brilliant. And yes... This Must be the Place.
...and at the weekend i thought to myself 'what the fucking fuck, it's st vincent and david byrne, get those tickets bought you total fud?!'
having done all that enthusing, they'll probably pitch up tonight, give it half an hour of difficult jazz, a couple of things from some new found-sound opera they're working on, and strop off. Seems unlikely though.
I got a bit teary during Road To Nowhere. The set was a nice balance of St. Vincent and David Byrne's respective catalogues with plenty of Love This Giant. They were clearly having a lot of fun and synchronised dancing was wonderful. You're going to love it.
Might try and pick up a couple.
Judging by the reviews here you'll kick yourself for missing it!
The crowd near me were utter arseholes who talked all the way through the St Vincent stuff. Not sure that the brass treatment worked for everything, but the version of 'Burning Down the House' was fantastic.
cheaper tickets appear to have gone, I'm looking at 61 euros - eek
I've been conflicted about it and I definitely kind of wish I'd gone now.
So fucking glad i got tickets for that!
First time i've seen david byrne and he was amazing, that guy's cool as fuck. She's always amazing and the way she flirted around the stage, jesus, that's the 4th time i've seen her and the 4th time i've fallen in love.
Great show, great set and they all just seemed so happy to be up there. A beautiful, euphoric experience. I want to go back now!! :)
Got tickets yesterday right up the back of the hall, and it was a fantastic gig.
...a year ago. so much fun. This is the Place and Marrow were particularly amazing.
So I guess it'll be pretty similar.
