Hookworms maybe close.
I'd rather dip my dick in a nuclear reactor.
I sense some trolling here though.
xx is still the best debut of the last 5 years
name five better
But...I have never managed to sit through the entirety of the xx album...it's so utterly boring and draining to listen to.
Love a good British debut (it can somehow enhance the music)...but if we disagree so strongly on the xx then maybe not.
Three Trapped Tigers - Route One Or Die
Crash Of Rhinos - Distal
Grammatics - S/T
The Haxan Cloak - S/T
Pulled Apart By Horses - S/T
There's probably loads more, I'm just terrible at listing stuff. If we extend it to the last six years there's quite a few more I could throw in.
The rest though, I've only heard CoR and PABH and they're great albums, but not The Best
Public Service Broadcasting - Inform/Educate/Entertasin
Hookworms - Pearl Mystic
Cult Of Dom Keller - S/T
Exit Calm - S/T
93MillionMilesFromTheSun - S/T
F*ck Buttons - Street Horrrsing
Eat Lights Become Lights - Autopia
The Blood Choir - No Windows To The Old World
Crystal Head - S/T
Dark Horses - Black Music
Guile - Alone On The West
Joe Gideon & The Shark - Harum Scarum
The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
Teeth Of The Sea - Orphaned By The Ocean
Evi Vine - And So The Morning Comes
Jesus Deluxe - S/T
are you looking forward to the new Teeth of the Sea? have you seen the trailer for it? Looks cool.
James Vincent McMorrow
Those all excite me. Glasvegas leave me totally cold, just landfill indie. Hookworms album is a bit flat as well - moreso after seeing them live, that was so disappointing it's taken what little edge there was to the album and dulled it.
How many years back are you counting for recent times?
I have no idea if this is a thread for sensible answers, but I'm giving one anyway.
I really didn't like them live, I thought they were really boring and it lifted the veil off the album, which I thought was alright to begin with but now seems pretty lifeless.
Hookworms is way down the list of records I actually want to listen to. M B V has gone that way a bit too. Stara Rzeka is truly brilliant though, and should be hyped more. Where's the hype police?
coming from. That album is amazing. AHHMay-Zing! I tell you. Unless, y'know. I have been too loose in which countries I include in Britain. no one will mind.
"depends what you mean by exciting"
several moments do make my heart flutter. There's not much hi-octane adrenaline pumping through it though. Still way more exciting than Glasvegas in any way you might define it.
It's rather good at first, but the album kind of peters out in the last third. Even then, it's not too different from the Spacemen 3/early Spiritualized psychedelia that's been fairly popular for some time now.
The Decline Of...
Best British debut in ages. Shame they've never come close to repeating it, but neither has anyone else.
Followed by Wild Beasts, Foals and Luke Abbott.
I wonder if this year DiS will finally have a British album of the year? (although Electrelane was join number 1 back in 2001 and The Streets Original Pirate Material) http://drownedinsound.com/lists/albums-of-the-year
I've just remembered The Twilight Sad's debut though. That's my answer. 100%
Thought that would be too long ago?
last 3 years is a fair amount i reckon
If so, then yes, maybe this year.
Sean wondered if the DiS album of the year might be British.
"I wonder if this year DiS will finally have a British album of the year?"
I see it.
Haxan Cloak could be a contender too. and Foals. Foals is still my #2 album, after Fell Voices.
But probably not accessible enough to be an AOTY on DiS. But speculating about that is silly, even in December. Not familiar with fell voices, but intrigued because I rate that Foals record too.
not sure if that's your thing is it? Still, check this out anyway - you don't rhythm, momentum or texture like this anywhere else.
I feel sorry for the people that don't get Holy Fire. It's monumentally great.
I like Hookworms too but Form and Function reminds me too much of Gay Dad
the right answer is the Courteeners.
Nice trolling mala
Wild Beasts and The Twilight Sad are pretty untouchable in this respect.
