Awesome album, really. Still one of my favourites.
about practically every album, ever?
he played muzzle (i know its mellon collie). i liked him for it
that is, if I were ever forced to do a top 10 of all time.
I remember my mate getting it on cassette and going on about it saying I should hear it. I wasn't having any of it, how wrong was I?
but I only tend to listen to it in the winter
I always think of it as a summer album.
Siamese Dream for the summer
Fuck me, Geek USA is still the biggest, most energetic, most-perfectly constructed, most Fucking-A ROCKKK song ever.
I love every track on the album, but the Geek USA is flawless — and made all the better by being immediately followed by Mayonnaise.
but I've always struggled with the production. My first introduction to the Pumpkins was Mellon Collie and played that endlessly throughout the 90's then came to Siamese Dream quite late, I just find the distorted guitars so tinny and high pitched and wish they were big and crunchy.
... am I the only who finds Disarm to be one of the most laughably pretentious songs ever written?
it's a complete rip-off of Not The Same by Dinosaur Jr, production-wise anyway, as time's gone on I think I prefer the latter to be honest.
Rest of the album... my jaw still hangs open in awe ...though do hate how our Billy has retroactively decided Luna is about Courtney Love rather than his girlfriend/wife at the time (in the reissue notes).
This album was the soundtrack to some really really bleak times..! <sigh>
as a teenager, obsessed melodramatically over 'disarm' and 'mayonnaise' of course, but i don't think i'd enjoy it now - corgan has ground away at whatever respect i had for him so many times in so many ways in the years since - but yeah, in that moment (and i remember it as a sunshine record too) it was pretty much flawless. lovely memories, making me feel all elderly.
yeah, in my top 10 ever and one of the first albums i properly loved after deciding to buy/aquire albums properly again when i was 16. Second band I ever saw live too!
