Some utterly utterly INSANE lineups
Looks good though.
Was WHP, so you never know.
Tell me more, I'm tempted to head to Brizzle from London for this
I'd wager a small fortune on there being Seth Troxler and Sven Vath nights anyway.
Looks great even though GLK pulled out after nearly dying...
Vaguely remember seeing it being advertised at the Motorcyle Showroom, but can't find any info after a (brief) Google.
in an overcrowded building with poor sound, full of people shoving by you or into you.
Used to go regularly. Vowed never to return as it got so bad. Shame they seem to have a stranglehold on whoever plays Manchester as they are good line ups and its usually the only time Modeselektor, four tet, aphex etc come here.
Really wanna go :(
they are good line ups and each time before I thought.. maybe its changed, maybe itll be different.. but it got worse and worse.
I wouldve thought if youre living in london there'll be loads of better nights on than this. even if its just 1 or 2 names from the nights. Id rather see 1 DJ at a decent place. than 10 at the WHP.
the same people run festivals up here and I refuse to go to them despite some good line ups.
What with the sudden superstardom of people like Bashmore and the random chart success of the likes of Breach. This sort of stuff is far far more mainstream than it was 5 years ago, which means far more lager louts and people off their fucking nut in short sleeved Hawaiian shirts.
Tracking the clientele over the last 2 years has been interesting.
maybe Ive been spoilt but its never like that at Bangface and was never like it at Orbit.
Plus as I mentioned.. it got worse and worse over the years.
That was so bitterly disappointing.
Madlib can't really DJ live. It's borderline hilarious. Twice I've seen him; twice he's been ridiculously bad.
The line ups are pretty good but I think I'll make a trip to In@Motion instead this year.
Line ups are never as huge, but then you can't see everything anyway. Probably a better and cheaper night on the whole, good system too
If only the venue and setup wasn't awful.
clubbing for box tickers
Or if they're there, they won't be too fussed by Martyn and Pantha du Prince? Maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Few nights that I'm tempted by, but that one has a) a great line-up, and b) I can't imagine too many idiots turning out for Pantha du Prince or Dopplereffekt.
No announcement or anything but my friend who ordered the tickets received a refund :(
PM if interested.
Will be a tough week for the promoters. Phoenix drop out seems odd
The Knife have cancelled too, don't know if that has been announced or not. Sounds like something's going on behind the scenes with it perhaps?
everything I've read on their FB page suggests it's all being oversold and it's a bit of a nightmare, so not particularly looking forward to it...
but I find on the more 'alt' nights the crowd and atmosphere are far, far better. Looking forward to FlyLo, Modeselektion and Four Tet shows. If you go see Axwell there's gonna be knobheads, unfortunately...
The opening weekend has been tainted by some tragic events, but to place blame on the organizers and start to read in to bands who cancelled their shows a while ago is a bit OTT.
off to the chic/hot chip/2manydjs show next friday. just wondering what the crowds/venue are like as this will be my first WHP.
would also like to know this.
surely there won't be too many idiots for this given it's a not particularly idiot-friendly line up + it sold out way in advance?
overcrowding of drunk people is a concern of mine though. i hate when it's a night of trying to get into the music but can't focus because of people pushing past the whole time.
The main room is massive (as in probably twice as big as Apollo/Academy etc) but it will still be packed for the headline acts. I think the crowd will be more spread across the venue on the Four Tet night, and the Chic crowd should be a bit more civilised (older) - they were a couple of years ago anyway!
Do say hello if you see me skiving at the back of the crowd
Mainly went just for that because it'd be one of those crowds where it's not full of absolute wankers. After seeing them earlier this year, the group I was with (all in our 20s) were probably the youngest people there. i mean with Hot Chip and 2manydjs etc it might bring the age demographic down a bit but still, i hope, at least, it'll be the least dickheadish crowd.
And as said above, because it sold out quickly, I feel it'll just be people that wanted to go!
Let's say you and a mate had booked tickets to meet up for The Knife one and, as you'd already paid for trains and planes and hotels and all that shit you thought you might as well go to Manchester for the weekend anyway.
If all of that had happened, could anybody recommend anything else decent happening on Friday or Saturday? Gigs, clubs, art installations, pissups? All considered.
Russian Circles / Chelsea Wolfe - Gorilla
Waxahatchee - Sound Control
The Appleseed Cast - Deaf Institute
Toy - The Ritz
Local Natives - The Ritz
London Grammar - Sound Control
Euros Child - Roadhouse
Wouldn't mind seeing Chelsea Wolfe.
Was the best venue for WHP and they only did it one year cos it was too near Strangeways and all the prisoners complained about the noise (LOL). After that it went to Picadilly and down the pan, a night with Luciano and Dave Clarke being particularily full of champagne quaffing coked up wankers. Seeing as I had took sid with me it really finished it off for me. Swore never again. Cack.
and had a lovely time
Considering it. Anyone been this year? I've only been when it was under Manchester Piccadilly.
inc. Carl Craig, Dixon b2b Ame, Ben UFO b2b Joy Orbison, Jackmaster b2b Oneman, Paul Woolford b2b Midland.
Slightly annoying though, as I'm planning on seeing Ame and Dixon in London on the same day, and I imagine they'll be on at 8am or something now :(
sadly there are some other acts that will ensure a sizeable cunt contingent
Jackmaster, Oneman, Joy O, Paul Woolford are all there...
Although if the Motion lineup is halfway decent I'll go there instead.
I'm happy enough with Erol Alkan, Daniel Avery & Ivan Smagghe for a fiver. Would prefer the Dollop one but we've got a really good group going this year, and Hydra should be big party vibes.
Then I'm going all out on New Years Day with Dixon/Ame/Lone/Move D etc. 10pm - 10am. Oh boy.
