Post an Interesting Cover

We're celebrating 3 months of no trips to the repair shop. Jaguar fund can almost afford a new transmission, which I fear is coming on. But I digress. It's a mixtape celebration!
God knows, man can't live by NPR stories about peach farmers alone. We needist our time in the car to play music unbearable loud.
And if you'll be good enough to post some groovy covers... I'll be underhanded enough to illegally downloaded the tracks I don't already have.
There's a good chap. Chop-chop!
It's a damn good thing I'm able to laugh off zero-response threads to the time zones
Because a long time ago, back when DiS posted freshman poetry, I was on the community board (before the separation of music and the rest of everything else)... I *was* the community board!... posting thread after thread. I confided that my grandma bought me my first David Bowie record. Bought a Less Than Jake record on Wishpig's advice, and related how my buddy popped it out of the CD player and threw it out the window on the freeway. Asked, of the 7 Deadly Sins, which was your favorite. Zero response.
Invented the Five Degrees of Steve Albini game, which actually got a couple of responses...and may well be the thread brought the masses...but that's counter to my present state of lament.
I'd start six or seven threads a day. Back then, there was nobody here, so it didn't hurt my feelings. I'd respond to my own threads. Everything was Anonymous, so a conservation with myself didn't look weird.
For those keeping a historical record, the change to usernames came as a surprise, and in haste I failed to capitalize the 'o' in oceanRain. A happy accident. oR fits me better. Better than my real name sometimes. But now I'm veering dangerously close to college psychology bullshit.
Yeah, you'll laugh now-- answering your own thread OP. But, hello!, sometimes I brought up some really interesting topics... that begged a reply! I wrote reviews for this website under at least four different names. Once, I joined the fray and commented, This reviewer doesn't know shit from shinola. Shame the review comments have died down again.
Anyway, eventually you motherfuckers started coming around. Probably not you-you, cos there's been about three generations of regulars since DiS crossed the hump. The first generation was like Gen and the math dude who programmed this site and Sean. There was the one guy who JAG the Arctic Monkeys' first demos every 10 seconds and we all thought they were a poor man's Libertines. And everybody already hated the Libs by then (except me). That one band nobody really liked with the one hit single was a good sign for DiS Records, but I'll bet Sean wishes he'd given the Arctic Monkeys a second thought. That would have been a great Simon Cowell moment for him. (Still, Emily Haines was on DiS, so I'm not slagging his effort... He just fucked up letting AM slip through his fingers ;). )
I was part of the 2nd generation -- as DiS moved from run-of-the-mill blog to webzine. We're in around sixth generation of DiSers. Which means the internet has cut real world generations by 90 percent. But that's not important.
I don't get credit for as the catalyst that jump-started DiS: that's all I'm saying. Fair enough, there were others around at the time. But the community board, circa 2003-4, I owned it. I loved this place-- it re-ignited a passion for music-- and I decided what DiS needed was an obnoxious American to talk shit on everything posted. Which I did. Made a conscious effort to never let any thread go static.
Of course, Sean and the Home Office were steadily making DiS better to casual visitors. Colin came along and the quality of staff content got better. Somebody came up with a cool logo-- you know, before it turned pink.
Suddenly, the conversations no longer required my facilitation. Mike Diver became editor and Rupert Murdoch tossed a few gold coins into the coffers.
I'm not asking for a plaque in Trafalgar Square. Though that would be nice. I'm just saying, post a cover song to this thread or I'm going to kidnap a kitten. I'm serious-- I'll kidnap a kitten and it'll be on your head.
Yes, I've been drinking. No, I'm not serious. Yes, OK, a little bit serious: I will absolutely kidnap a kitten. Post a cover song, right now!

Apologies all around for the stupid, drunken rant.
On the other hand...some good stuff above. Thanks!
