It seems to have Deal on vocals oddly, new album incoming?
I really don't want a new album
But don't like the production. Imagining how good it would sound with Abini at the controls.
i can't tell if I really like it. I mean, it's obviously a tune but when you think Kim Deal might have left cos she hates it or whatever it's weird. Oh man, what the hell. Not a bad thing to wake up to on my birthday.
but ended up thinking it was rather good. Not sure about a whole album of material, though.
WHY SO LONG? Didn't they reform ages ago?
then there's a point where Frank is saying he's got loads of stuff but the rest of the guys just don't want to make that record, but it also sounds like he's not really made that clear either, like they're all being massively coy with each other.
I mean it's like the Pixies, so that's good, and it's not some dull, slow, dirge.
nope nope nope....
starts off sounding a bit like Svn Fingers era Black Francis solo stuff then Kim comes along and it gets nice and epic!
Funny how it makes 'Bam Thwock' sound really old.
Much better than I was expecting. Just the right level of sounding like the Pixies without being too familiar.
but I thought that was... good.
If there's an album, hopefully they recorded it before Kim left.
Video's actually really good:
seems to feature a song called Indie Cindy.
bit confused as to what's happening with kim though. hope this means she'll be on the album?
but I like the tune
Do you want it to have that tinny shit 80s sound that dogged their early work or something? Even modern Albini sounds big like that e.g. the last Mclusky album.
it's not that it, the chorus sounds kind of limp and actually kind of strange... you cannot really hear the bass at all during the verse and if you want to listen to it at any kind of decent volume on headphones it causes a headache. Ta guy
it doesn't seem quite as poor as I remember, but I'm not in love with the production.
hopefully there's some more stuff recorded before Kim left to come ... don't wanna contemplate Pixies carrying on without her
it's absolutely rubbish.
on first listen.
Apparently it isn't Deal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGdSYPh5_BI
Really not sure how I feel about this :-/
vocally dreadful verse-wise.
very catchy chorus.
musically really pretty good.
What the devil is going on?
Nice stuff: http://open.spotify.com/artist/19LHufQTirHjVY6GaPKAhd ...but the backing vox on 'Bagboy' still sounds more like Kim.
but I really like it now, definite grower. verse sounds a bit like Julian Cope's 'Poet is Priest'. Kim's bit is awesome. the guitars are time travel.
i think i'm starting to love this.
that guy sounds so much like Kim it's unreal.
I heard it today and in the first few seconds was embarrassed on their part that it sounded so like a band trying to be Pixies. I coped with it until the "Kim" part and then kinda liked it. It made me grin. I assumed it was the Kim song they made before she decided against doing more. Then, these rumours, man, if true that makes it abhorrent. Just, no. I haven't listened again. I hope nothing more comes out.
it's a song, pal. get over yourself.
Way to piss all over your legacy.really glad Kim's got nothing to do with it
more realistically, neither song has done so.
Also it's really good, what's wrong with everyone.
it didn't impact on my enjoyment of their albums. Legacy is intactt
if the Smiths, or Pixies, or even the remaining Beatles put out an LP of underwater farts now it would have absolutely bearing on their earlier work.
all of their albums since The Bends have been great, except for The King of Limbs, which I'd still consider pretty good.
Like Bam Thwock too.
IN MY OPINION.
But from Lotus Flower onwards it's great. I think the start of the album's too clinical. It's the kind of album that could benefit from being a bit more loose.
Does anyone know if this is the first single from the album, or just a random track from the album?
Her backing vocals are so important in so many songs... Imagine Where Is My Mind or Hey or I Bleed or River Euphrates or Tame or Gouge Away or Bone Machine or Debaser or Isla De Encanta or Here Comes Your Man without her.
Will they have to drop those songs, or do them differently, or have this dude doing all her parts? I don't like any of those options.
died in a freak yachting accident - apart from Kim, obvs. The Breeders seem to be doing it right.
Not great, but good.
Black Francis is one of those guys who sound more natural in his main band than with his solo material. Oh, kinda like Thom Yorke. But now I digress!
OK, so they've got a stand-in for Kim. Which is kinda weird. But in the grand scheme of things, who gives a shit? It's a pretty good song, let's go ahead and make some more. Kim Deal is still the coolest soccer-mom-looking chick ever, who's got a good thing going with *her* main band.
Ah, the world keeps turning. Wouldn't mind seeing Black Francis and whoever play "Monkey" live again, probably would dig a new record, and if Gene Loves Jezabel can split into American and European versions of itself, the Pixies can go on without Kim. So, yeah, it's all good.
Tickets for Manchester, London, and Lisbon not on sale until 9am tomorrow apparently...
Woke up this morning to the email saying "ON SALE NOW" but it wasn't actually on sale yet and I had to go to work. Oh well.
I am really excited for it, I have wanted to see them for so long.
Me too, I can't remember why I missed them in 2009.
Now I just think it's crap.
