Favourite Artists who disappeared after just 1 album.
Who are your favourite 1 album wonders? They only released one album and then disappeared without leaving a trace.
mine would be;
Radiator - S/T
Sea Hags - S/T
Mother Love Bone - Apple
Sona Fariq - S/T
sad answer: the exploding hearts
also im resigned to the fact that Late Of The Pier aren't coming back.
both are awesome tho
I'll second LotP
Fantasy Black Channel was such a superb album.
Ooh, Exploding Hearts!
One of the smaller record labels here in Portland just rereleased Guitar Romantic, so they've seen a massive resurgence here lately.
Wow
working through acts I haven't heard in this thread - Exploding Hearts are great! What a sad way for them to go.
The Strokes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Strokes_discography
He knew that they had way more than one album
It's just what passes for a joke here
yeah
it was all downhill after last impressions
Lift to Experience
Life Without Buildings
those are the exact two
I was going to say!
Snug
The Stereo
Rumbleseat
SNUG!
I love that album. Weird that Ed Harcourt was their keyboard player.
x is greater than y
negative snow was a beast of an album!
I Love You but I've Chosen Darkness

DFA 1979
Didn't they do a tour recently playing sketches of songs?
So they could start recording a follow up album based on how it went?
Also, that EP which precluded the album is pretty damn good too.
Lapsus Linguae
...except they are releasing that second record after all. SANTA EXISTS
It would have been pretty hard for Mother Love Bone to continue
after Andy Wood died. You could argue that Pearl Jam is a pretty big trace to leave behind...
I know, but still a masterpiece for their only album.
Mare
Only managed an amazing EP before buggering off forever :(
Yes!
So glad to see someone else reference Mare on here! That EP really is incredible.
You just know a full-length would have been phenomenal
Ah well
It would have been
And I would have loved to see them live.
JE
SUIS
ANIMAL
did Canyon release a second album?
That is an incredible lp. I've googled them every few years, but can never find any more info.
Aw, man
Magnetic Moon is such a piece of work
gonna give this a listen
Amanaz - Africa
One album of Zambian rock in the 70s then nothing.
One of them became a farmer and the others died, I think.
Great album
Ella Guru - The First Album
so much ^this
Psychid
a very interesting first album, then nothing
The Stone Roses?
Sona Fariq
they remind of my old haunt the Harlow Square
American Football
My Vitriol
Texas Is the Reason
OK since we're playing fast and loose with the whole 'disappeared without a trace' thing
I'm adding Weakling and The Monsoon Bassoon
OH
and Cayto.
The Monsoon Bassoon didn't exactly disappear without trace
given Knifeworld :P
hence 'fast and loose'
ignore me
giant
drag
good news for you
They've released another one
& are on tour, as are my vitriol
The Wolfhounds
Released 3 albums (at least)
Avalanches
And they are never
ever
ever
going to release a follow-up
hopefully
;)

Sex Pistols
The La's
Mark Hollis
...live in hope for the return of Hollis one day.
The La's
Came to my mind as well.
Arrah And The Ferns
I really really liked that Black Kids album
It's dated really badly
Have you heard it recently? I had fond memories of it but re-played it a short while ago and couldn't get through to the end.
Yeah, I still play it quite often, especially now in the summer
I've actually come to appreciate a lot more over the couple of years than I did when it was new. Genuinely find it rather excellent in pretty much every regard.

Meet Me In St Louis
run, WALK!
Favours For Sailors
Union Of Knives
Played their debut album to death...still listen to it regularly
hot cross
They've released more than one...
city of caterpillar
Especially annoying as the instrumental demo
that was going to be on their next record was so good.
the monks
Larrikin Love
Hang about
there's nostalgia and there's your *favourite* band who made one album and then disappeared being Larrikin Love.
Average drama-school bells in waistcoats playing lutes. Seriously?
propellerheads
the germs
avalanches
josef k
postal service
+1 for Propellerheads
There is still occasional talk of them returning. Yes please.
There are rumours of their unreleased second album being available on the deep web
Rumours...
Not sure they count
As 2/3rds of them ended up in Islands, but The Unicorns.
Definitely counts
You only need to listen to that Clues album to realise how pivotal Alden Penner also was to their sound
I came here just to say Unicorns.
I want a fucking reunion, stat.
WU LYF
:D
Sona Fraiq! I've got that album - great stuff.
The Drips
Gratitude
Submarine
Jarcrew
if we ignore the second album, Hope Of The States
Rodan
Hymie's Basement
Byrne
Plone
Amazing album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrpIgl5jK6I
Did you hear the leaked second album
that was never officially released?
Captain
Telepathe
Not quite gone, but pretty much forgotten.
not sure they were that good
used to like in sixth form, might have to go back to it
They're supposed to be releasing a new album soon
but "Destroyer" which was supposed to be the lead single was released at the tail end of last year and there's been no news since :/
yeah i know a guy that worked on it
that was last summer though, thought it would be out by now...
The Organ
Great call
That album is one of my favourites of the last ten years
This Et Al
D E A T H F R O M A B O V E 1 9 7 9
Test Icicles
I HATED that album. It was shit.
Kubichek!
LET AIRPLANES CIRCLE OVERHEAD

Anyone????
Whipping Boy
they did three albums!
Submarine, Heartworm and the posthumously released self titled.
I say this every time but..
Ambulance LTD.
Captain
oops, didn't see them mentioned earlier.
Fields
There's an unreleased second album kicking about
Don't suppose you know where?
I've got it. It's called Hollow Mountain
One of these days I'll get my butt in gear and send it to the people I promised 6 months ago!!
I haven't forgotten. I've still got the list
Ooh, can you put me on that list if I'm not already?
Thanks!
Energica
Medium 21
Brilliant album (Killings from the Dial), massivly underrated, if they came out now people woule be calling them the british National.
many of those mentioned already but to add to the list:
make model (1 unreleased album)
santa dog
cue fanfare (1 unreleased album)
the motorcyle boy (1 unreleased album)
the flatmates (1 compilation)
ah make model!
Damn shame about Make Model
"The Was" was a top single, and they were a pretty decent live band as well. Reckon they could have been quite big.
Ctrl-F Clor
Just beat me to it
It's looking like KONG are another
Lauryn Hill
The B of the Bang
Ambulance Ltd.
They did have an EP out after though, I believe.
Attic Lights
Blue Roses
The Chalets
Derek Meins
Dirty Pretty Things
Duels
Released two albums
The Barbarians Move In being the 2nd.
Ah yeah, but that was forgettable, hence I'd forgotten!
The Fallout Trust
Frou Frou
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
The Long Blondes
The Maybes?
Great band.
The Mummers
Five Thirty
Sybille Baier
Oh and of course Postal Service! Bastards.
On the other hand, Courtney Love has done one solo album. Let's hope it stays that way.
Dark Star (Twenty Twenty Sound is an album everyone should listen to)
Longview (working on a second album for what seems like an eternity now)
Fields
The Rain Band
Kubichek!
The Vessels
Avalanches
Airship
Morning Runner
Mumm-Ra
Red Light Company
The Mummers (although they released an EP and apparently are working on a second album after all!)
CLAMS (Ace Japanese shoegaze band with so much more to give)
Nanocycle (same as above)
Worst thing in the world when a band I love calls it a day after one measly album.
i wasnt that taken aback by Clams or Nanocycle
have you listen to Lemon's Chair and RiLF?
Airship!
Their early singles were top, and they were great fun live. No idea what happened to them though?
Mumm-Ra's album really was fantastic.
The Middle East
Desaparecidos (But seems they'll do another...)
But the correct answer to this thread is...
Sluts of Trust
Incredible album. Where did they go?
Engerica isn't a bad shout, but re-listened to that album the other week, and....it doesn't age terribly well! (I prefered the band formed of their ashes BADDIES to be honest)
Completely forgot Cap'n Jazz
I'm a terrible person
Cats In Paris
Grammatics (though they did that KRUPT EP after I guess)
I liked that Cats in Paris album.
But then I saw them live, and it put me off a bit.
Yndi Halda
Surprised no one's mentioned this yet, they used tobe talked about all over these boards a few years ago.
The Golden Virgins
Can't believe I forgot about them for this long, Songs of Praise is an amazing break up album.
Deconstruction
Eric Avery and Dave Navarro made an album after Jane's Addiction fell apart, I think it's out of print now but it still sounds class (most of Avery's work does). this was before Dave Navarro became a waxwork and Perry Farrell took a flying glittery shit on the band's reputation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVADCalHJpo
