Show me your works in progress please.
My set-up is very basic, everything DI'd into my computer and a cheap microphone for singing, which I put through my pedal to sound audible.
I still want the chorus to sound a little....bigger (for lack of a better word). But without using synths or extra vocals. Maybe more reverb?
Clearly I'm a professional.
Tell me more about where/how you recorded it.
Amazingly crappily when I think about it everything was DI'd into his laptop and logic. I'm the drummer and for all the drums I just DI'd my Roland Octapad and then the guitarist just spent a while trying to edit it together.
Did you DI the instruments with effects or use effects from logic?
I think half the guitar parts were using the line out from his amp (and post-pedals) so not any effects, but some of the rhythm parts may have used Logic's effects.
The vocals, I think, used Logic reverb, the drums on the other hand went in as one sound so used no effects there. Everything apart from them probably had varying forms of compression
Here's my latest one:
Hammering the Monotron on that one.
Nice work bongo. Reminds me of Sun Araw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lICT9FAKO1o
What do you need to do to finish it?
It does sound like Sun Araw a bit, yeah. ha. weird, trippy, noisy stuff with a bit of darkness shot through it.
like it a lot.
also has that swampy Sun Araw vibe going on. I thought I'd listened to more of your stuff than I appear to. Playing it now - and enjoying it all!
Need to get it mixed and mastered. Not sure if the guitar is also out of tune slightly. Might re-record it.
there's a SUPER distorted pulse that runs through it. Might be the format I've used to save it. Dunno :/
Or the subliminal evil that I mixed into the track.
needs drums, and editing: https://soundcloud.com/dontdieonanemptystomach/titxcutter
with Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement going underneath it. sounds really good. you should add some dark ambient drone in thee with the drums.
Love the flutey feedback tone you've got going. very Finnish.
that actually happened because I recorded my fender acoustically into the mac, and added reverb/distortion effects, which created that weird echo. But yeah, i'm quite interested in having some droney synths under it too, basically I went to see Mount Eerie last week and thought "well if he can do it"
Stuff I've done in the last 2 weeks since I broke my collarbone -
only 50s or so, go on
Would make a nice intro for something. Or menu music for a game/website.
Trying and failing to sing higher.
nice progression -- sounds like when phoenix started copying the strokes a few years ago (that's a complement in my books)
it's a full album. I uploaded it as a nearly finished/unmixed effort, and the computer it was recorded on went kaputt not long after.
For fans of Burial's ambient stuff, BoC, Selected Ambient Works, Ben Frost, found sound etc.
almost appropriate it must remain unfinished/incomplete - it sounds like an eroded relic, unearthed after years underground.
so here's a long-term work in progress. I'm not even sure what I want to add to it, but I don't think it sounds finished...
I don't think you need to add anything. This feels like it could be background music for a Final Fantasy game.
thank you very much! :D
I was def. pretty influenced by soundtracks when making it, so it's cool to hear stuff like that. There's some Nobuo Uematsu that's just a sort of atmospheric fixture within my brain, too, so that's doubly complimentary.
reminds me of The Caretaker's eerily warped nostalgia.
here's one of mine. Droney/beaty/synth/guitar stuff: http://soundcloud.com/moth-effect/lost-in-g
A song from my band about being old and NEVER going out.
as I'm starting to force myself to finish tracks before uploading. Although I recently uploaded this track that still needs some work.
Just me and a mate. We've decided after doing this for two years we want to start gigging -- not really sure how to go about it as the last time I played a gig was 2007.
and her songs are more complicated
Guess the theme. They won't all be this long, but at least one of them will. This didn't come out exactly like I was intending so I'll probably do it again and do four or five tracks together on some kind of album. maybe, if I can get my shit together.
Reminds me of that Black Mirror episode with the talent show and the kid wins it by going on that massive rant and his reward is a bigger room with a big screen/window.
if I could recreate that scene/episode of Black Mirror thourgh the medium of no-input mixing desk noise I could die happy.
still pretty rubs at it but ho hum.
some poppy song ideas i done:
now I just need to learn how to master/add interesting production flourishes so i can sell it to one of yer icona pops or yer lordes and just let the benjamins roll in
been playing these to people in the office. you've got a couple of new fans.
been a bit slack this week so haven't been working on anything. writing music at a PC without some sort of midi keyboard is completely arduous. :(
Have a listen!
Feedback very much welcomed.
with proper verses, choruses, bridges and all that. Reminds me of Villagers a bit, in a good way - how all the picking keeps rolling on through the crescendos. I like the spooky keyboard (?) sounds in Ohdemo.
The intro to Dream of Nothing is pretty badass, shame that grittier tone drops out.
good stuff keep it up / 10
Cheers man, really appreciate that.
yeah, the keyboard sound in "ohdemo" (that song needs a title), is actually from my ipad.
put a new track up last night
Holographic Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal Grating Array
the title tells you all you need to know. possibly. disparaging comments welcomed.
look at the nice polymer dispersion figure as cover art.
You'll all be excited to hear that the Birds of Britain stuff I am doing is coming along nicely. Probably won't post more of that until the whole album-thing is done, then put it all up together on soundcloud & bandcamp.
It's got a sorta 70s glam rock chug ;-)
Good idea, could give it an even more pronounced stomp. Makes me want for a fancier tremolo.
all your tracks are nice little jolts of fun.
Ambient, drone, shoegaze...basically a bunch of heavily modulated synth and guitar tracks:
totally zoned in to that. Beautiful.
Looking forward to the not-so super-rough version (this one doesn't sound super rough at all to me)
My aim was to sort of replicate William Basinski, but via guitar / synth and effects so really glad you were zoning out to it.
Will send you a link as and when I've recorded it properly, uploaded some more tracks.
but I always anticipate it being interpreted as 'lost interest', so I say it wrong - got lost in it and zoned out. Anyway, you know what I was saying. Loved it.
Can definitely hear the Basinski influence. Wish i knew anything about recording technology/synths to make something like this myself.
My knowledge is super, super minimal for what it's worth. This is basically just a case of writing some guitar lines, looping them, and then experimenting with different effects / chains of pedals until I get something I like. Same with any synth parts I include.
Recording-wise, I literally know nothing. I just use garage band and point my ipad at my amp, but I think it sort of works for this as it ends up sounding slightly degraded and the general ambience of the room sounds vaguely like tape hiss.
Want to release a couple eps in the summer possibly. Wrote a bunch of new songs and also been working on an assload of beats. But heres a demo
That isn't shit-on-me embarrassing
Feel free to shit on me, I'm probably wrong.
Has a bit of the Banharts about it. Arrival of keyboards near the end add a nice extra detail to it, keeps things interesting.
Normally my stuff isn't quite so wet..
Whats up ya'll here's a track from my upcoming project "Spring Flings: The Ep" called Hey Irene. This is my demo version. I hope ya'll enjoy!
*Spring Flings: The Ep is a 5 track effort based around various dealings with women, in it's own unique way. It comes out May 5th.
the Arturia softsynth version of the Arp 2600 (since i'll never get my hands on the real thing any time soon), really starting to understand synthesis. The original owners manual is pretty charming and informative, worth a read even if you don't need to use this specific synth since it explains a lot in general. http://guitarfool.com/ARP2600/Arp%202600%20Owners%20Manual.pdf
Anyway yeah i recorded hours of messing about onto poundland cassettes via a tube overdrive :D and saved a load of patches as "dagkjresgkjarhkah" etc and forgotten what they do. Somewhere along the line I accidentally made this comparatively more 'musical' little thing: https://soundcloud.com/cementimental/tx-dx ^__^
Shoegaze / guitar drone / Basinski worship:
done for fun on Easter, sampling my own voice
Made this after watching The Fault In Our Stars and The Spectacular Now and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and Her. Sounds a bit like I'll Try Anything Once by The Strokes.
