you should all get it
Overpriced. WAY overpriced.
but the vinyl version didn't seem thaaaatt bad $90 for seven records, a 24 page booklet and a collection of rare photographs taken during the recording process.
if you bought it from a major retailer just send them a quick email, i'm sure they'll send out the correct disk and refund your return postage, though in my opinion Lush are the superior band of the two.
session versions and other stuff is brilliant. I'm hoping for a reissue of Star by Belly. I wonder if that'll happen.
would love a mega vinyl reissue of Frank Black's Teenager of the Year. Next year maybe?
Any reissue should definitely have the demos - they're very good versions, and a couple feature Kim Deal. I think they were recorded with the intention that it would be the next Breeders album but she went off and formed her own band instead.
Half of Star was written for Throwing Muses, but Kristen Hersh pulled rank.
In The Oral History of the Pixies, Tanya Donnelly says that Star was demoed under the name The Breeders and with Kim Deal on it because the intention was that it would be for The Breeders. She says that due to record label stuff the idea was that they'd take turn with having their songs on respective albums. She ended up forming Belly because Kim was staying with the Pixies and she had already left the Muses.
It might have been that she tried to bring the songs to Muses beforehand, but the demos were recorded with the idea that it would be for the Breeders.
Pixies album. Last Splash works really well as an album and Saints is one of my favourite summery songs. It even has the word "summer" in the lyrics. Brilliant.
It borders on reverence.
