and maybe a bit about why.
bought it in a charity shop - turns out Athlete weren't anywhere near as good as I remember them being.
Absolute fucking shite. Bought it from a charity shop. Thought it was supposed to be good. Is it supposed to be good?
Turned it off in absolute disgust I think.
and the first track and lead single was an upbeat MOR country song called 'New York, New York', which contains the lyrics "I Still Love You New York". I agree that it's a pretty terrible album.
just didn't do it for me first time, nothing stand out that said it would on a second listen either (so it didn't get one)
Not her greatest
Jack White is making me quite ill.
Also Showbiz by Muse, 1st 2 Doves, Vaccines, Voodoo Lounge, McCartney 2, Moe Tucker I spent A Week There, Black Keys El Camino, Animal Collective MPP, These New Puritans Hidden, about a hundred more.
and El Camino - I thought a compilation of the best bits of Brothers and Attack & Release was probably all the Black Keys I needed. El Camino was a lot less catchy than I thought it would be (outside of the opening tracks).
personally I love it, and I acknowledge it's quite different to AC's other output, but I can't imagine it being an album that people hate so much that they only ever listen to it once.
That was enough
Why would I?
NB please don't try to convince me otherwise, boring
Just didn't grab me like Feels
I bought the Haxan Cloak's new record about 6 weeks ago but just haven't been in the right mood to listen to it. I'm sure I'm gonna like it, but it's been pretty nice and seasonal out and it's gonna be grim.
It's good for reading/working to, try that.
wanna give it a proper attentive listen
Buy something and then not listen to it for ages. Either because I'm not in the mood or because i like the feeling of having unlistened to music.
but for some things there just a time and a place
Bought it for £2 in Fopp after reading good reviews (I think), absolutely fucking hated it.
White Russian Galaxy, Lottery Winners On Acid... others
Not the one above! I love this album.
Nothing really encouraged me to listen to it again
I really wanted to like it.
probably fit it inbetween setting up a new ISA and strangling the local squirrel.
where do I collect my indie points?
just think it is an album that warrants repeated listens, man
like, I like the bits with Don talking way more than I did first time.
fast and booolbous!
Not because I'm amazing (although I may be) but because I was expecting it to be very hard work. And actually it was only slightly hard work. Its inaccessibility has been exaggerated.
Bought in the HMV clearance about 4 months ago. It's ok and I will listen to it again, just not soon.
Also, Returning to Gehenna by Fields of the Nephilim. It's just a bit dull. I'll probably try and sell it/swap it for something else though at some point.
Listened through once after all the 'return to form' business and then could think of a single reason to ever listen to it again
all I ever want to hear is Midnight Organ Fight
It seems Veronica Falls and Ramona Falls are different bands.
I just need to see out the night, try and forget this ever happened.
Yeah I know. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood, and it's not as though my expectations were particularly high. I was just left with a crushing sense of disappointment, it still sounded like MBV but with all the inspiration sucked out of them, a redundant collection of outtakes from the Loveless sessions. I guess I'll go back to it at some point, but it'll be a while.
... Until today. For some reason it didn't grab me at all on the first listen. I think I found the vocals a bit annoying too.
After having listened to it a few more times I love it. When Will You Come Home is a monster.
Never done that before.
It gave me absolutely no reason to listen to it again. Boring, insipid and a bit like something U2 (and every other guitar band ever) would make.
Admittedly it isn't as 'experimental' (and I use that word advisedly for Foals) as TLF and Antidotes, but the melodies are stronger and it seems more cohesive as an album. A lot of the fan whinginess seems to whiff of precious indie bedwetting...
PS Proper tunes, proper shoes and proper haircuts
jesus, that was a mistake.
Got none of her early EP(s?)'s charms... Every song sounded the same, with no notable hooks/riffs..
