Austin Psych Fest 2013

TheGrudge [Edit] [Delete] 5 replies 07:53, 28 April '13

Pre Psych Fest Party at Mohawks & Red 7

A Place To Bury Strangers were excellent. Joined on the last 2 tracks by a member of Sereena Maneesh.

Metz didn't do anything for me. Punk edged rock. Not knocking them as musicians but just a lack of tunes to grab my interest.

Thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 songs I caught of Rain Parade' set.

Day 1 - Psych Fest

Highlight - The Soft Moon. Wow, they played with an intensity and fire I'd not seen before. Ever improving live outfit.

Great sets from - Besnard Lakes, Tinariwen, The Raveonettes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Silver Apples, Acid Mothers Temple, Om.

underwhelmed by - Warpaint, Suun, Tamaryn

Day 2

Highlight - Woodsman. Down to a 3 piece since I last saw them at SxSW 2011. only have the 1 drummer now. Still a mightily impressive set. Must try to get them to the UK for the first time.

Great sets from - Black Mountain, Man Or Astroman?, Night Beats, Boris (contender for the loudest festival set EVER!), Holydrug Couple.

Bailed before seeing The Warlocks, Deerhunter & Spectrum as there was thunder, lightning and heavy rain. (I'm a lightweight!!)

Day 3 promises to be a corker (Hopefully the site won't be a giant mudpit).

Aiming to catch Elephant Stone, Roky Erikson, The Moving Sidewalks, No Joy, Indian Jewelry, Dead Skeletons & Goat (cannot wait to see them live)

The 3 stages have the clearest sound I've heard from a festival set up. It's been impeccable.

  • Howabout the organisers, the Black Angels, did they play?

They're now down to four-piece, wondering what they sound like now. They did a tiny show here last month, one of those you only find out about after it's sold out :/

    • Yes, already muttered about hoping to get over to Europe
