I use Hip-Hop - BASS IN YA FACE.
I think it's pretty much the same as hip-hop actually...
and say it should always ideally be in neutral, otherwise you're distorting the sound as it was meant to be heard. if you lack for bass, it's likely that it's your headphones at fault.
i've tried them all and 'Off' still sounds the best
the overall mix is suffering. i'm trying to think of a clever analogy but it's too early
Especially when we're talking via MP3s on a crappy iPod. Listen to it how you like it. Be free
but ipods/mp3s aren't crappy by definition, it's a misconception that some people have - a nice set of headphones makes a massive difference
I have a nice set of headphones and don't use an iPod. Think I'm just spoiling for an argument
depends how much you want bass over clear sound I suppose, the EQ feature is pretty much there to compensate for the terrible pack in buds.
not if you use negative eq (reduce the other bands, rather than boost the bass)
I just kinda prefer the punch you get with the Hip-Hop setting. Though now you've got me thinking. Might experiment with turning the EQ off later...
but all I ever hear is the distortion and reduced detail
EQs on various audio equipment are generally used incorrectly. EQs were originally there by design to compensate for flaws or inconsistencies in playback equipment and maintain a neutral sound across playback - sure users are free to use them to create a sound they like, but it's not really the original point. Subsequently, audio manufacturers started making all these preset sounds, which I never use. I tweak the EQ manually if needed.
I have noticed that a lot of people seem to like heavy bass, neutral midrange, and high treble so the frequency graph would look like a U-shaped valley. Personally to me this sounds artificial and horrible, but it certainly makes heavy rock and dance music sound pretty oomphy.
that emphasize the U.
then again i've don't use an ipod anymore because i'm fucking poor and can't replace my old one
always flat, who the fuck wants artificially coloured in bass, mids or high? I DONT
Get some good headphones G
All of the EQ presets on my ipod classic are absolute garbage. I don't use any of them anymore as every single one of them seems to cause distortion. Apple really should be ashamed.
My iPod mini from ten years ago had this problem. I ditched iPods a after that and stuck withthemusic players on my phones. Both the htc's and sony's I've had since have clearer sound and no distortion with the equaliser. Apple stuff really is shit.
Doesn't seem to have been sorted. I bought my first ever ipod a couple of months ago and i do actually think that the sound from my Sony Xperia Arc S phone is marginally better. Obviously, my phone doesn't have 160GB of memory though!
they sound way better then iPods
