John Martyn
Not listened to him for a while, but after having recently listened to the stoned late night beauty of Small Hours http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYLVM560Fok I`m in the mood for more.

Solid Air
I don't go threw his catalogue that often because he went a bit weird, in the worst possible way, thank you cocaine
Solid Air is completely essential
None of his other ones have grabbed me as much, but Inside Out, Bless The Weather and Stormbringer are all definitely worth a listen.
He lost it when he got too experimental.
I associate him with folk music. Can't stand all the weepy, Phil Collins-produced stuff, including Solid Air.
Get 'London Conversation'. By far his best record. Him at his natural best, not making electric music for dads.
* or even Solid Air.
I quite like One World
But I can appreciate that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, especially if you prefer his folkier stuff. Might be worth a look though.
And yeah, the Phil Collins produced stuff isn't great.
Yeah, One World is great, he was knocking about with Lee Perry when he made it, wasn`t he?
Yeah he was!
Might have to give it a blast when I get back tonight in fact.
...
Totally put off listening to him after reading about the way he used to beat up his wife- black eyes, broken arms, ribs, the lot.
I know things like that shouldn't make a difference to listening to someone's music, but, it sort of does.
I would say agree
if the music didn't represent a very clear personality change due to horrible personal life choices.
