(Jere-mah, Jere-mah, Jere-mah, etc)
The-Dream's not lived up to his early promise. Miguel's LP last year was hugely disappointing bar two standout tracks. No idea who the other lad is. Frank Ocean, of those, is clealy the standout artist, but obviously he's the most popular so people on here will claim otherwise, just because they're insecure like that.
The-Dream >>> Miguel > Frank > Jeremih
I did like some of Franks album but yeah he aint even close. Didn't like anything I heard from the other two. Any kind of R&B or soul with live drums and instruments can do one, I want shiny synths and drum machines and thats where a lot of the others guys stuff falls down for me.
I dunno I'm not really fussed about how many copys someone has sold if I like it I like it if I don't I don't.
And with that, I yield.
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN!! TERRIBLE IDEA!
get a fucking grip i mean i know barry's a baller but he's not that ballin, i think the old anthem is safe.
The Weeknd come in there? I'd argue The Weekend > the rest.
and going with overall body of work it goes like this:
Dream >> Miguel >> Frank Ocean > Jeremih
If we judge based the last couple of years then it goes like this:
MIguel >> Frank Ocean > Jeremih >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. Dream
'Late Nights With Jeremih' is just killer, all the way through.
Thought that release was a little overrated, it does have some major jams though.
the intention was to point out how good Jeremih is (imo, I guess).
I like Take Off a lot. 773 Love is a rockin track too.
- the synth on '773 Love' is the best I've ever heard. it's so SHINY. the production... Mike Will Made It's best yet?
- 'Mystic Brew' sampled again on 'Keep it Moving'... and I'm fine with that. that woozy, narcotic magic is imperishable.
- great to hear Twista tearing it up on 'Ladies'.
- the little vocal sample on the title track is gorgeous.
- the mood throughout is so addictive. on the slow jams and bangers...it's his voice, his personality, sweet and suave, but kind of affable (less arrogant than RADIO KILLERRRR), kind of druggy (less malevolent than The Weeknd)...
can never seem to find the right volume for it, the main hook seems really shrill or something idk. great tune all the same
Not nec a bad thing cos he does it well but I dont think its his best or maybe just not his most original? I think Turn on the Lights is easily the best thing he's done up til now
Unfair how good the first and last minutes are on that.
Not Jeremih. Not that he isn't good on it or anything, but the production's the real stand out.
Ahh Shit samples one of my favorite songs from the last five years so yeah, he aint touching that:
All Over Me is really fun, scuffed up drums, simple bass.
Mystic Brew sample is a little too obvious imo, cool track but that holds it back.
Twista always fun to listen to even when he sucks. Horrible mastering on that song tho.
Rated R is really gorgeous, one of his better vocal performances.
The less arrogant than T-D point is interesting, I think thats a major point of appeal about Dream though. Overall a really good release but I just cant help feel like he is just riding the coattails of T-D. His phrasing and inflections don't have an inch of originality and his voice doesnt have much character. Of course the Dreams voice isnt much cop either but he has loads of original phrasing and can write and build songs like none other.
I don't know, I just like the tunes (cop out :) ).
Have you heard the first two dream albums?
which I'm listening to for the first time in a bit and wondering if I got a bit overexcited with Jeremih.
talk to me about the other records.
It's still great but the first two are untouchable. My fav is Love Vs Money
wow... there are a couple of makeweight tunes, but other than that it's ace. first two must be pretty special.
Both front to back classics.
Ocean is way different to the others
