Oxbow & American Music Club
NOT a collaboration thread.
Sorry to get hopes up.
I want to know these bands. Consensus on where to start with both?

Oxbow-a Love That's Last is a good compilation/ DVD combo
then just work backwards from there.
American Music Club-er, Engine maybe? (though a lot of people would say California).
Mercury is my favourite AMC album
but granted, most people would say California
for oxbow
certainly give 'an evil heat' and 'serenade in red' a listen
Engine, California and United Kingdom are the pinnacle of AMC.
Everclear, Mercury, San Franciso and Love Songs for Patriots all brilliant too.
As for Oxbow, The Narcotic Story is my fave. I saw them at Bristol's Ashton Court Festival about 10 years ago. They were colossal!
American Music Club are one of my all time favourite bands
You should definitely start with California if you can get hold of it. It's their greatest album, one of the best records of the 1980s and a stone cold classic from start to finish. Check out Western Sky (it's the first thing that comes up if you put in American Music Club on You Tube). California is full of songs as good as that.
My other favourite AMC albums would probably be Everclear, United Kingdom and Engine in that order.
I've got three copies of California, love it so much.
It seems all those early albums are out of print, the only one I haven't got or even heard is The Restless Stranger. United Kingdom is my next fave, then Everclear, San Francisco, Engine and Mercury. All have absolute classics on them though. Eitzel is undoubtedly a genius. Eugene out of Oxbow has a massive schlong, that's all I know about them really.
California has been unavailable for ages
Some kind of dispute with the record label. When so much crap gets reissued over and over it's a real shame there is not a re-mastered version of California.
Restless Stranger has been hard to get for even longer (I think the band are not that keen on it). I've got it, it's not as good as what follows but it has got AMC's first great song on it (Room Above The Club)
Thank you all
Today is a good day for music.
I can help if anyone needs to hear Restless Stranger
PM
I saw Mark play in Bristol last Sunday.
He's still great.
My journey with AMC started with Mercury
As soon as I heard "Johnny Mathis' Feet", I knew I was in love. Haven't admittedly heard most of their other albums yet, but Mercury did the job for me FWIW.
Invisible Man by Mark Eitzel is my favourite AMC related album.
