Where the bass drives the music...
Listening to Foals' Holy Fire, it is damn funky. The bass really drives the front half of the album along in a way that's reminiscent (to me) of Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights. What other predominantly guitar centric albums do you like where the bass is a real key part of the sound?

Good topic
When I started listening to music a lot, aged 15/16 onwards, the only explanation I could think for the kind of stuff I loved was that it had "driving bass", even though genres differed:
New Order - obvs.
The Cure - A Forest, pretty much all of Faith and A Strange Day, in particular
Pixies - Debaser, No. 13 Baby and gouge Away being faves from Doolittle
Throwing Muses (albums with Leslie Langston on, especially House Tornado and The Real Ramona)
Detroit techno (Model 500/Mayday)
Happy Mondays - fave album probably still Squirrel & G-Man. V. melodic bass, high in the mix.

You often get the feeling that the axeman and the vocalist get the intention and it's not just the drummer but the bassist who is under appreciated. I'm pretty sure that most people lost hope with Interpol when Carlos D lost interest in the band (during Our Love To Admire by all accounts).
Going to listen to TOTBL now
Early 2000s indie kind of passed me by...
I guess I could also add Joy Division to my list too, now.
Death From Above 1979

Also most all funk and soul is lead by the bass.
Yeah, I was more thinking of 'standard fare' indie types
who through intent (or accident) draw on the bass as a key part of their setup. Given that I'm not that au fait with soul and funk (ironically) I'll take a look at this thread anyway - thanks.
All doom metal.

No Noxagt or godheadSilo either, pshaw.
Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
Willie B. Carruthers is a bass god. His basslines supply the melody for many of the songs. Shine A Light is a stunning example of his playing.

Listened to this record the other day
and the bass stuff did catch my attention like it never has before. Probably because it's the first time I haven't listened to it on cassette or a shitty stereo. Gave a fresh new dimension.
