Autechre
So Exai dropped Valentine's Day, didn't hear anything about it and was surprised a thread hadn't been started here.
One of the greatest electronic duos of all time, this band basically paved the way for my love of electronic music today. Incunabula - Amber - Tri Repetae has got to be one of the greatest run of albums in music history.
What are peoples thoughts on Exai? I'm about to listen to it for the first time now. A little over 2 hours, so it takes some dedication.
Lets talk about Autechre.

its great
like, really good.
I really like it
It`s probably my favourite of their`s since LP5.
absolutely agree
It's a truly fantastic album. And yes there was a small thread about it. P4K are well off the mark with their review.
think LP5 is probably my favourite.
GONNA STICK IT ON NOW
There was a (small) thread
haven't heard it.
Not sure yet...
As with any Autechre album, they take a while to fully get into. However, after initial listens I can't help feeling thus: Quaristice and Oversteps were these fully-formed, very distinct soundworlds, very different to their earlier music but brilliant, whereas this sounds a bit muddled, takes a bit of both the previous albums, and a bit of their early stuff, and tends to chuck it all at the wall. It's certainly impressive in places but I wonder whether it has enough of its own identity. But as I say, this could change in a few months' time!
I think that Quaristice and Oversteps...
...might be my two favourite albums of theirs.
I'm really really liking it
think the p4k review is a bit wank
Listening to '1 1 is' through headphones
is making the inside of my head feel itchy
So basically
the Japanese bonus track is the best track on the album.
Fucking hell.
The question is...
...will ever Autechre return to their early (and best) sound from Incunabula/Amber/Tri Repetae/EPs? Or they will continue with this really abstract, mechanized and hard to understand music?
Here he is
I'm not dissing Ae, far from it. I just miss the melody from their early releases...
hopefully not
i dont want them to
I should assume that you like better albums post-Tri Repetae?
not sure what the question is
I like better albums..? by autechre.. or someone else..? either way not sure if its possible. wouldnt want them to waste 15 years trying to recreate that though
I meant if you like more
(the question was quite poorly written)
ahh
yes, i enjoy everything theyve released.
Those are some of my favourite albums
but I feel like they shouldn't really touch on something they've already perfected? I quite like where they're going, it's a bit more difficult, but it's a nice progression from their earlier work. I like Exai because it's nowhere near as difficult as Confield, but at the same time shares some of the ambient elements of their earlier stuff underneath the mechanical sounding rhythms.
It is difficult to listen to it as a full album though because of how long it is, and how it can be slightly jarring, but then again I've had this problem with most Ae records. Small doses seems to work quite well with this kinda thing. 'T ess xi' and 'deco Loc' are highlights for me so far.
It's very good, but it's definitely too long
The last four tracks are absolutely magnificent, it would be better to get to them a bit quicker.
Aside from Bladeloris [which has quite a lot in common with their 90`s albums] it`s a pretty dark album lacking melody and warmer moments. But somehow it`s very addictive and enjoyable and the 2 hrs go by pretty fast. Takes quite a while to get your head and ears round it though, but it`s worth it I reckon.
Could you post a list of highlights?
I'm really enjoying T ess xi
It's definitely one of the warmer, bubblier numbers
