1. Played Emily to my friend because he'd not heard of Joanna Newsom before and it sparked off a relisten of Ys & Have One On Me. Both completely perfect albums to the point that it kind of enrages me.
2. Go-to reading music at the moment. Really nice kind of 'crepuscular ambience' with some proper big droney bits. Can't put my finger on why but it makes me think of being out on a huge ship in the middle of the night.
7. Bought Vivaldi Recomposed on a whim yesterday. Really beautiful, especially the second track 'Spring 1'. I'm probably the only person in the world that doesn't know the Four Seasons very much at all though so I'm only getting the surface-level enjoyment, not all the muso type picking out bits he's reconfigured and stuff.
9b. Nice kind of folky math-rock stuff, kind of like Maps & Atlases. Free as well so go for it - http://houdanthemystic.bandcamp.com/.

1 - Pretty standard week.
2 - Not music, but a stand-up I've been listening to loads on Spotify. His delivery is pretty low key but he has this bizarre, breathy creepiness that just makes it all even funnier.
4 - Like An Everflowing Stream is probably one of the best metal albums ever innit?
9 - My first time giving them a proper listen outside of the obvious hits. Phil Spector was a bit good eh? Shame about the murder an' that.
Good thread title, kudos

1) Pretty pretty pretty excited about seeing him live FINALLY in a couple of weeks; he's made my econometrics studying bearable.
2) The Freak of Araby, the record he recorded in tribute to Omar Khorshid. I think it might be his best, but Intermezzo from last year runs it close. Unbelievable playing, you have to see him live to believe it.
3) They're alright ain't they? Worth seeing live? They're here next week with Thought Forms who I really love.
5) & 6) Ra-step. Been revisiting Keepers of the Light these past weeks. Are we expecting any new stuff from them?
7)a) Good but not great live this week, mainly due to his voice. Come back soon with your throat intact, Mike.
7)c) You know those albums you really want to love but just can't? That's Luxury Problems. (There's a joke in there somewhere.) It just lacks intensity or focus for me.
10) I am so excited for the new record.
Also been listening to lots of Thomas Koner and Kevin Drumm this week for my noise peeps.

1 - Laish need more radio play. it could happen, they could be big. people should hear them.
2 - Twins is really really good. It might be his high point of 2012, though the White Fence split is too good too.
3 - Really interesting solo bedroom recorded stuff - although you'd never guess it from listening. I think it's free to d/l, but it might not be. I can't get into Bandcamp from work to check, but if it;s not free you should listen to it anyway. Atlantic Downs is the new one from last year that I have only just got into despite having it for months. The rest are also very good, varying degrees of shoegazey noise texture drone, but mostly propulsive rocking. www.spiritspinemusic.com
7 - Excellent scooter driving music. I wish I had a Hog, would be even more perfect.
8 - Villagers is not as good as JVM is he?
