I was going to say Local Natives, too, but at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth. Either them or Frightened Rabbit.
.
I went to both Frightened Rabbit and Local Natives there this week. Much preferred the latter. I also thought Wintersleep were very good.
Easy: Nick Cave at Her Majesty's Theatre

Desaparecidos at The Electric Ballroom.
Veronica Fall at St Leonard's Church is a close second.
this
for Desaparecidos.
Dinosaur Jr. at Electric Ballroom
it was a great gig
but it wasn't as good as Kraftwerk (and I say that as a fanatical Dinosaur Jr fan who only owns one Kraftwerk record)
Yeah, I didn't manage to get a Kraftwerk ticket.
Thanks for reminding me though. :(
sorry
that came out more gloating-cunty than I intended
Kraftwerk
Won't be beaten.
Nothing is going to get close to Kraftwerk
But Lone Wolf at The Lexington was a great gig.
Spotlight Kid at Rescue Rooms
although I'm seeing MBV next month, so I've already decided that they'll be my favourite.
Not sure about that. I saw MBV at Brixton last month; a very poor gig.
Was that considered a warm up for the tour?
I'm hoping that was a very sketchy run through of their set list, so that they have chance to get ready for their tour.
Still concerns me a bit that Brum is their first gig of it though.
Apparently is was a "warm up" but I wouldn't read too much into
that. They were very poor live. I saw their first comeback gig on a Friday night at The ICA in 2008. That was billed as "rehearsal" gig but turned out to be one of the best gigs that I've ever been to. Put it this was, their proper gigs can't be any worse than at Brixton. They can only be better.
what did you think of APOF there?
Kraftwerk - Man Machine day
Brilliant
Rob Marshall & Nicky Smith (Exit Calm) at Boogaloo 10/01/2013
Frightened Rabbit @ The Junction, Cambridge last night was excellent too.
Blindness/Creatures Of Love @ Shacklewell Arms 16/01/2013 was another corker.
Just this week I've been to Desaparecidos, Killer Mike and Local Natives
Local Natives was probably the best of the three, they are fucking glorious live, love that new album as well. The other two were pretty damn great though.
Kendrick at Hammersmith in January was fucking incredible too.
Dan Deacon
Killer Mike
High on Fire
damn you
was trying to get spares all day for that, seems to have been v popular and then turns out amazing!!
Playing brixton academy in october but it wont be the same :(
Metz at Brighton Audio
Fantastically enjoyable; still have bruises two weeks later. They're supporting Mudhoney in June as well. Touch.
Where did you hear they are supporting Mudhoney?
Brilliant news if true.
It's on the Resident ticket listings
and on other listing sites. June 4th, Concorde2. Job's a good un.
Ah, okay, cool
I'd be going to Birmingham though. Bet we get The fucking Twang or something.
Yeah i saw they had just announced a Brixton
dudes got big! i hear you but there's something great about that venue and i think the big stage/sound will really suit them.
I bet they sell it out too.
The Strypes at The Old Blue Last
Cult of Luna
at the Garage was amazingly good
I've only seen Kraftwerk and Killer Mike so far
Both utterly brilliant.
kraftwerk
Tour de France and TEE
John Wesley Harding's Cabinet of Wonders
He performed with:
-Colin Meloy
-Chris Funk
-Ben Gibbard
-Laura Veirs
-Sallie Ford
-k.d. lang
-Peter Buck
-Scott McCaughey
-Storm Large
-With stand-up by Eugene Mirman
Included in this were a superb and haunting cover of Tom Waits' "Martha" by Ben Gibbard, "The Girl Is Mine" by a very pregnant Laura Veirs (dressed as Michael Jackson) and JWH, and "Islands in the Stream" done by Colin Meloy (dressed as Kenny Rogers) and Laura Veirs (dressed as Dolly Parton). It also featured some great spoken word by a couple local authors, and Eugene Mirman telling a story about he and Michael Stipe getting robbed by the Mexican police. They closed with an actually pretty good cover of "All You Need Is Love," and Mirman hammered on a Kaoss pedal during the song's crazy-ass outro.
Oh, and Colin Meloy did "On the Bus Mall," and since JWH's backing band for the show was basically Black Prairie (aka the members of The Decemberists that AREN'T Colin Meloy), it was basically like a one-song Decemberists show.
Possibly the most fun I've had at ANY show.
Where on earth
was that...? Sounds amazing!
It was at the Aladdin Theater, here in good ol' Portland. And it was very, very amazing.
Enjoyed Pete Swanson the most so far
vigorous jamz at birthdays.
^
short but sweet
Dutch Uncles at Manchester Gorilla last night.
Good year so far
Last night I saw Dean & Britta doing live soundtrack of their 13 Most Beautiful: Songs For Andy Warhol's Screen Tests thing. Pretty amazing and an encore of Galaxie 500 songs didn't hurt either.
Other contenders would be Desaparecidos and Conor Oberst shows.
Thurston Moore/ Michael Chapman at the Cumberland Arms, Newcastle
Standard Fare at Queens Social Club
their last show in the North. Good will is a powerful thing at a gig.
Desaparecidos at Electric Ballroom
Brad at Islington Academy the night before that was pretty good, but there was a better vibe at the Desaparecidos gig. Jump up and down! Shout lyrics back at Conor! It was like being... like being young again.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu @ Islington Academy last week
Three Trapped tigers
were mesmerising.
Frightened Rabbit
at the Phoenix last night
Standard Fare
<3
Miles Kane on the NME tour
Only kidding, he's horseshit.
The sound was awful in the Brum O2 though. Does not bode well for Mr Shields in a few weeks time.
