Current 93. Tell me about them.
All I've got is Soft Black Stars, and I've listened to it about ten times the past couple of days. Some of his lyrics are dreadful, and I'm not keen on his voice, and there's something horribly arch about his delivery, but MAN there's something magical about the way the piano flows around the vocals. But this one isn't representative, right? Where else might I go from here? Talk to me.

All I know
Is that Andrew WK once performed bass guitar with them and I found this surprising. Since then my threshold from being surprised by things Andrew WK does has been raised vastly increased.
Thunder Perfect Mind is his best album in my opinion
Current 93 fun fact: Sasha Grey is singing on a few songs off one of his more recent albums
also check out death in june
Three records to consider:
1) Thunder Perfect Mind
This record is exquisite. I love every moment of it. It's likely his best work, hands down. It's also likely his most palatable.
2) Black Ships Ate The Sky
Also probably his best work. This is the kind of thing I think about when I hear someone talk about an artist's opus.
3) Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain
I don't know how anybody else responded to this record, but it was my first Current 93 album, and I feel like "Not Because The Fox Barks" makes absolutely everyone in music who wants to be "edgy" look like the goddamn Partridge Family.
You should not be put off by his work, and you should frequently read interviews with him. He's an insanely likable person, smarter than most everybody around him, and is, quite possibly, completely insane. There is a lot to take in with his music, so wade in slowly.
love Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain
I hope he's got a few more like it in him
Started off industrial, became apocalyptic folk
Hugely prolific, very much a collector scum band that attracts obsessives. Tibet's voice is usually the deal breaker. TPM is a fan favourite, The Inmost Light (a comp of EP's) & Black Ships Ate The Sky are 2 of my faves. Lot of more well-known names are in the band's orbit, Marc Almond, Ben Chasny, Andrew WK, & Antony, who rose to fame after working with Tibet. Also long-term connections with Nurse With Wound, a similar band in many ways.
Thunder Perfect Mind
is just incredible. There are so many recurring images and motifs in his immense body of work that you can easily live inside his world for months on end, not to mention the uncountable references he places in his lyrics to other fascinating artists and spirituality that open numerous wormholes to disappear into should you choose. I started with All The Pretty Little Horses, and found this to be a good starting point. I've never been keen on his industrial stuff, however.
All The Pretty Little Horses
then Thunder Perfect Mind
then Black Ships
are all you really need
Some of the stuff he did using Thomas Ligotti lyrics/shorts is incredible.

Also, this version of Twilight Twilight Nihil Nihil off the live album Cats Drunk on Copper is pretty amazing as well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V009qmIoiF8
And a good Comus cover... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSctRiv35eg
A lot of albums have great moments on them., would be wrong to just dismiss everything other than the few albums mentioned here. There are some not great bits though.
Never heard of Current 93 before,
just listened to Hitler as Kalki.
Wow.
Think Nick Saloman from the Bevis Frond is on that track
Tibet does find some great people to work with.
