Finally got it ordered :D

Took ages, but I finally got through and ordered the LP/CD/download bundle for a total of about $40 including shipping to the US. I've only played the dl 2x so far but what is standing out is how absolutely "thick" sounding this. I'll be playing this for the rest of the weekend, I'm sure. I've seen lots of FB posts basically saying it sounds like an extension of Loveless without sounding like "Loveless 2". I agree so far :)

      in my experience very few mp3 players will play wav files (and they are massive (1.5gig!)
      you get get free programs on cnet thatll convert it for you.
      most laptops will be able to play the high quality wavs though.

How old are these songs?

Like, have they been in the vault, subject to failed periodic tweaks over the last two decades and are only now deemed worthy of release, or have they been written fairly recently?

So far I really like some tracks, quite dislike a few others and find the others pleasant enough.

So apparently

the 320kbps mp3 version is actually an 128kbps transcode. I keep reading people saying to get the wavs and convert them yourself.

  - it means the mp3's were converted to a low quality and then reinflated to the size of a file of good quality but lacking the actual audio information to sound good quality as that was lost in the original mp3 creation.
    
    Ive just checked in audacity, it stops at 16,000hz which I think means it is not true 320.
    
    Wonder why they would do this, kevin shields constantly thinking of ways to piss people off

      but I always listen to MP3's in at least 256kbps VBR. So the best idea would be to wait for the CD then rip that? I might just download a 'cheeky' version of the bad version for now.

2 sound-related questions

1. I foolishly plumped for the allegedly 320kbps mp3s, because it was 4 in the morning and I was worried my computer would deal better with those than the WAV files. If, has been pointed out above, they are actually a 128kbps transcode, can I get better quality files by simply uploading the CD to iTunes when it arrives?

2. With respect to the recent remastered CD edition of Loveless - what is the difference between the two CDs? And I remember people talking about a digital glitch on one of the tracks - if I buy a copy now, is it possible that the glitch will have been removed?

- 1. yes, but make sure you set in the preferences the quality and file type you want, think it defaults to 128 AAC (which is slightly better than 128 Mp3) but you can change it to mp3 and set the rate.

S'alright innit.

Was expecting this to be shocking to be honest but it's really quite decent.

Nit picking here but I'm not fond of the cover art and the only reason I say that is because 'Loveless' is one of my favorite album covers ever. This one's a bit unimaginative.

Still, that I can easily live with.
