Bulgarian music
As I've been living in Bulgaria for a year now, I've managed to get knowledge on what music there is here now and I gotta say it's pretty damn good. So, on my Facebook I'm doing a theme of showing a Bulgarian band/singer each day and I thought it would be cool to put it up here as well.
So, the first band today is called ????? (Yuvigi in Roman alphabet) and they play a prog/rock/metal style of music. Seen them quite a few times and they are excellent musicians and are great live. They are are good enough right now to support a band such as Dreamtheater and be right at home. This song is from their second album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFcg5KxUuA0 and their Facebook www.facebook.com/Yuvigi

Yeah, I agree
the music they've made is great
wow this is wonderful
cheers
moar
It's from the first compilation they recorded.
it's on spotify...all of it is amazing. Just look up Bulgarian State Television Female Choir.
This thread's reminded me of the Bulgarian punk tape I got from a mail art friend's distro in 1996 and of course since we now live in the future
http://noiseaddiction.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/va-greetings-from-bulgaria-1996.html
guhh
i forgot we live in a bleak post-filesharing dystopian future :(
Anyway I remember it being an interesting if incredibly lo-fi tape :)
I will make sure I get some punk
listed during the month as well.
I agree, it's a bit of shame that the mixtape doesn't really exist anymore
I still have the cassette somewhere...
Funny you should say about cassette
As I just bought a car here and it's got a tape deck in the radio!

Nice article
I remember when I was in a place called Plovdiv, there was a book about rock/metal/punk music over the last 30-40 years there and I wanted to buy it, but it was in Bulgarian, so there wasn't much point.
should have bought it
Would have been a great way to brush up on your Bulgarian.
Oh yeah, it would have been
Only problem was it was 40-60 leva and I thought it was a bit expensive
Its all about Aziz

Oh my word
That's terrible! I've not seen that video before and it's quite possibly the worst thing I've seen now.
Best Bulgarian band, by far: Gravity Co.
Bulgarian electro-rock band. They also made the soundtrack of a video game Trans (with robots).
Some of their songs:

Mr No One http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFzw6fVV9ZI
Paper Trail http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uc4zmAhhBM
Oh yeah, Gravity Co
are awesome. I've missed them twice, but I will get around to seeing them this year. There's another band I will be putting up over this week who are as good as Gravity Co.
I was in Varna a couple of years ago
and recall there being a healthy punk scene as well as a surprising amount of grindcore. That's all I've got.

Today's band are called Overgame, have a really great sound and a great singer as well. If they were in England, they would have a bit of potential to be signed to an indie label.
This song is the first song from their first album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXW3GUabriA and their Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/OverGame/359072880648?group_id=0
My favorite Bulgarian artist: Mira Aroyo
She's not just very talented & beautiful, but also very clever (research scientist with a PhD in molecular genetics from Oxford University).

Yeah, I missed yesterdays through reasons and such, anyway.
Todays band is one that I've only just discovered from seeing them support someone else. They are called Center and are an amazing instrumental rock band. If you like a band like Russian Circles, this is the band for you. Quite simply put, they are amazing. Facebook http://www.facebook.com/CenterBand and check them out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Jj-ZK-k5o

So, they are called Gravity Co and are an excellent electro/rock band who make some fantastic music. Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares!
astonishing stuff imho. But then everyone here already knows that don't they?
I saw them recently
(or their current incarnation)
Absolutely incredible stuff.
Where did you see them?
I was going to get tickets when they were in London not long back but then it sold out. :(
It was at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections

Gonna have to post this one quick today, as not much time. Today's band are a cracking instrumental band and are called Da Madafuckin' Madafaka's. No Facebook, so Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/damadafakinmadafakas Check them out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8TjVJMvGCM&list=PL858FFF87628A35FA&index=2
Bulgaria has a history of amazing pop music, particularly from years gone by
This is my favourite Bulgarian song, probably:
Margarita Hranova - Ustrem
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Av78FAPmg
The vocals from 2:55 onwards are the show-stopper for those who click on the link with a short-attention span.
I love many of their oldies, but of the newer stuff I've heard nothing's grabbed me, although I've heard Gravity Co are the pick of the crop. When it comes to 'new music' my tastes are quite demanding.
I will admit to occasionally raising an ear when a chalga singer performs on Slavi's show with his band accompanying them.
Yeah, Gravity Co
are a little more known, but to me I wouldn't say they are the top, but then again that's all down to taste.
Keep listening and I'm pretty sure you hear something that will be to your taste.
I will admit, I've totally turned off to Chalga singers.
me too
occasionally they work their way into my head though when I'm forced into exposure to them

This band are someone I've seen only once, but they were damn great musicians. They are called Kottarashky and the Rain Dogs .The music is a little hard to describe, but it's Balkan with some Jazz thrown in and different time signatures. Just check them out https://soundcloud.com/asphalttangorecords/kottarashky-the-rain-dogs and Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kottarashky

I've not seen them yet, but hopefully will be soon. Check them out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqZhxB13JSM Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sepuko-6/107692702633180?group_id=0

Happy V Day all! So, I gotta a new band for you here and they're called Skitnicks a straight out rock band, similar in style to Danko Jones. Heard one song of theirs on a compilation album and the rest of the music is pretty rocking. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8l07DVymQ8 Facebook http://www.facebook.com/skitnicks?group_id=0

Today's solo singer is a big departure from what I have been putting up here over the past couple of weeks. She is called Ruth and sings an Rn'B/jazz style and has an excellent voice. Check her out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIHF8JwkDvI and Facebook http://www.facebook.com/music.ruth?group_id=0
