Depeche Mode
i hate muse
but really quite like this
Given up on them
Can't see them ever writing a remotely memorable song again. How long has it been now? 16 years & counting. Bring back Alan!
Eh, the song's not that bad
It's just not really anything to write home about. They've had a few OK songs over the past 15-or-so years, but IMO just haven't had a thoroughly good album. It's a shame because I really used to love their musical output, and would always eagerly anticipate new releases. In all honesty, I wish they had called it a career years ago (maybe after Ultra - which, despite Alan's absence - was quite good).
Ultra was their last half-decent album
and Barrel of a Gun is one of their best singles. Since then it's been diminishing returns every time, and these 2 new tracks don't indicate any kind of return to form.
It is indeed sad as they were the first band I ever became obsessed with, and the first band I ever saw live, back in 1986 on the Black Celebration tour. Guess they're kind of an electronic Rolling Stones now, releasing increasingly irrelevant albums as a reason to go on tour & play the hits. Also wish Martin would just stop singing, his voice is increasingly unbearable.
absolutely
they're in that unfortunate position where every album gets heralded as a return to form, but just isn't. not getting fooled again.
although i like martin's voice.
Ultra was the start of the rot
Barrel of a Gun and Home excepted. Playing The Angel had its moments though (if it was a bit too long) - they need to get back to 9 or 10 focused songs per album as per the Violator/SOFAD phase.
PTA is great
Probably the only DM album I listen to as an album (so I guess that immediately invalidates my opinion).
dude.............................
I also really like Violator
It's just that they're not a band I approach in terms of albums. Lots and lots of fantastic songs, but only one album (okay, two) that I value as albums.
Hmmmm
It's probably their most consistent album since Ultra, and has the virtue of sounding like golden age DM. But Martin's vocals on Damaged People make me want to pour boiling chip pan oil in my ears.
I really like it, it's not as good as one on the trailer though.
It's bland
I'm sad. I hope the other songs from the album Delta Machine are better.
I felt this way about the new Bowie track.
So is "All That's Mine" not a new one?
Heaven is terrible, but All That's Mine isn't too bad
Blawan remix this single
now I'm interested.
and Matthew Dear
Well now, I'm really interested.
"Should Be Higher"
Smells like a classic DM to me.
The whole album is up for stream on iTunes now
Not as terribly weak as Sounds of the Universe but IMO still pretty unremarkable.
