when they were saying how difficult it was, and that the first disc was darker and weirder. to then put it on find the first track was probably the cheesiest thing they've done...
A little too long but there are some good tunes in there. Lyrically it's a lot better than Only Revolutions - no God and Satan clangers on there.
They obviously aren't going to get close to anything off the first three albums, but I came to terms with that a long time ago.
Decent pop-rock album that I can enjoy in parts.
Looking forward to seeing them at the o2. They've come a long way since Exeter Cavern. Headlining Reading+Leeds this year as well if efestivals is to be believed.
There are still traces of their older weirdness in the newer stuff (some of the time signatures and riffs from the new one, the breakdown in That Golden Rule), but they're now incorporated into something much bigger and more polished. It all kind of depends if you like big guitars attatched to epic sounding power-pop these days, and I very much do.
people who complain about them betraying their weird roots have got it wrong - the newer stuff has more in common with Blackened Sky than the second and third albums do
if anything those two albums are anomalies and the last three(?) albums have been a return to the true Biffy sound
I've not listened to either in a long time, and while I really liked Vertigo I always found Infinity Land really dull. and now I think Vertigo isn't nearly as clever as it thinks it is, as well as having terrrrrible lyrics/song.
I am struggling to come to terms with how awful 70% of it is. Then there's a two or three good tunes and a few average ones but most of it gets more and more horrible the more one listens to it. "Biblical" and "Pocket" in particular...urgh.
Also why does Simon say "baby" every other word nowadays? Is he trying to be the Scottish Enrique Iglesias?
and a 14 track single album? I thought the whole hype was that it was a double album? surely if they were happy with the double album they should have stuck with it...i know label pressure etc will be behind it but hate it when there's a choice over how to buy the album. I want to hear what the artist meant for us to hear!
I've nearly finished the first disc. So far not all that impressed, and I say that as someone who really liked Puzzle and Only Revolutions as well as the earlier stuff.
I think long-term Biffy fans are going to have to accept that what they have become now is a really good pop/rock band, and they're not going to get old Biffy back. Apart from a couple of the ballads, I rather like it.
however,
it will sell so much that the boys will literally be bleeding gold.
got about 5 songs in before i gave up
so much for the first disc being 'dark'
i mean,
they lost it at puzzle. I don't know why i keep hoping for better. It's like Weezer.
i know
but even puzzle had a good track or two
a man can hope
dont get burned again bro
As with EVERY album from Puzzle onwards
they're talking in the press about how, after this one, they're gonna get right back to doing weird, interesting stuff.
You've lost it, boys, be honest with yourselves.
they are basically The Och Aye The Noo Fighters
i actually read an interview with em
where they trashed infinity land because it 'didn't have any proper songs' on it
fucking best thing they did by miles
god, when i saw them touring that
opened with glitter and trauma....
they used to be so good :(
i know, man
i know
vertigo of bliss*
infinity land is a bit inconsistent
I really liked Puzzle.
The fact that even in a 20+ song set they scarcely drop any pre Puzzle stuff is disappointing.
to be fair
they played jaggy snake at wembley, but it got cut from the DVD
grr
They normally play about 4-5 pre puzzle songs in a 20 song set
They played two songs from Vertigo I think at Download this year.
Look at this picture

That's.....
Look like Kings of pissing Leon
Am I the only one who likes this?
A bit too long, but there are some great songs on there. Even if the production is a tad annoying.
i got excited
when they were saying how difficult it was, and that the first disc was darker and weirder. to then put it on find the first track was probably the cheesiest thing they've done...
I'm actually enjoying it as well
A little too long but there are some good tunes in there. Lyrically it's a lot better than Only Revolutions - no God and Satan clangers on there.

Decent pop-rock album that I can enjoy in parts.
Looking forward to seeing them at the o2. They've come a long way since Exeter Cavern. Headlining Reading+Leeds this year as well if efestivals is to be believed.
Well they're a different band now.
I've sorta come to the realisation that maybe they were never actually very good
Liberate The Illiterate / A Mong Amongst Mingers
certainly his lyrics have always been full daft.
I still feel the pain in my HEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
actually that was good
actually the first record had great lyrics
TONIGHT
WHEN WE RIDE
IT IS SUCH A RELIEF TO GET OUTSIDE
strong rhymes
love solution devices
underrated tune.
I've thought for awhile that
people who complain about them betraying their weird roots have got it wrong - the newer stuff has more in common with Blackened Sky than the second and third albums do
if anything those two albums are anomalies and the last three(?) albums have been a return to the true Biffy sound
Yeah, perhaps with different production
Stuff like J.D.I and 57 would easily fit on here
add some swoops from a sampled string section
soften the guitar tone a little
not their 'roots'
most of blackened sky is pretty awful and i wrote them off atthe time because of it, but they got better after that, and then stopped
Vertigo Of Bliss and Infinity Land say you are spectacularly wrong
I don't know
I've not listened to either in a long time, and while I really liked Vertigo I always found Infinity Land really dull. and now I think Vertigo isn't nearly as clever as it thinks it is, as well as having terrrrrible lyrics/song.
every once and awhile I'll stick a song from one of those albums on for old times sake
but i often don't listen to it through to the end because its never quite as i remember
TVoB > BS > Infinity Land > Opposites > Puzzle
cocked that up
should have read:
TVoB > BS > Infinity Land > Puzzle > Opposites > Revolutions
Nah
Infinity Land > Blackened Sky
VoB > IL > BS > meh
never heard a note of them
cool.
well they haven't made a good album yet so it wasn't hard to predict
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4424202#r7295566
yeah, i suppose they're fine
apart from the songs on them
shut yr dirty mouth
ARE....
..........they not just for children?
God this record is terrible.
I am struggling to come to terms with how awful 70% of it is. Then there's a two or three good tunes and a few average ones but most of it gets more and more horrible the more one listens to it. "Biblical" and "Pocket" in particular...urgh.

If anyone's interested in more of my ranting I wrote about it here (http://www.stereoboard.com/content/view/177055/9).
its got a few good ones,
Pocket is just horrific, sounds like a one direction song?
I really like Pocket.
'The Joke's On Us' could happily sit on Infinity Land.
Amazing song.
Anything else worth saying has already been said up-thread.
what's the deal with it being available as a double album
and a 14 track single album? I thought the whole hype was that it was a double album? surely if they were happy with the double album they should have stuck with it...i know label pressure etc will be behind it but hate it when there's a choice over how to buy the album. I want to hear what the artist meant for us to hear!
yeah, especially as the order is totally different
I didn't realise they were doing that until you said
I thought the only two editions were the double album, with or without the DVD.
Incidentally
I've nearly finished the first disc. So far not all that impressed, and I say that as someone who really liked Puzzle and Only Revolutions as well as the earlier stuff.
Doubt they'll ever top Infinity Land though.
I say this
I've just got to The Fog and I really liked that. And they've left it off the single album. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.
Stop singing in octaves!
Fucking Sharleen Spiteri!
:D
Have had two proper listens to this now
I think long-term Biffy fans are going to have to accept that what they have become now is a really good pop/rock band, and they're not going to get old Biffy back. Apart from a couple of the ballads, I rather like it.
Intro of Glitter of Trauma = Good
Everything else = couldn't give a shit.
