Foals
yes. pretty forgettable
put the two best tracks at the front of the album, release them as singles, then hopefully people will buy it.
Yeah...
i listened to it once on a low-quality illegal stream and that's enough for me to assess its merits and declare it a poor record.
Correct.
wait for it to come out ffs
Those two singles are killer.
yeah
my number is simply brilliant, and Inhaler isn't far behind, really hope the rest of the album is as good
Looking forward to this
Will buy it when it's out as Total Life Forever is one of my favourite albums of the past 10 years.
I've heard it too and I agree with everyone else here who has already heard it...
I think many of those who really enjoyed Total Life Forever like me, will be a bit let down.
It's not terrible - it's just not really much of anything. First disappointing album of the year for me.
How about letting it be released and listen to it a
few times until you write it off. Life was a bit of a grower.
needlessly_defensive this'd this
i wish
have had a promo since december, havent felt that compelled to return to it.
I've heard it once in reasonable quality. Thought there was 3 decent tracks,
two of which you will have heard already. Not a patch on TLF, I'm afraid.
Providence is REALLY GOOD
Rest of it (except the singles) is instantly forgettable.
Milk & Black Spiders is my new favourite Foals song.
Every time I see Foals mentioned anywhere
it makes me sad that Youthmovies aren't in their place instead.
Have you heard the Pet Moon stuff?
Andrew from Youthmovies' new project. Pretty tasty, very different though:
https://soundcloud.com/petmoon
Yeah, pretty good.
Although Andrew put out some ambient/spoken word stuff under the name Plosives shortly after Youthmovies split up, which I thought he should have done more with.
reviewed it
http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/bq3q
No, far too favourable a review IMO
It's a let down not a step forward into anything worth meriting and should be rightly declared as such.
his opinion is far too favourable?
yep okay sure
Yes, that's what I said.
You are my least favourite DiS user.
Wear that as a badge of honour you miserable fuck.
:D
And you rightly declared him as such.
Another one?
Goodness, if Foals have such petulant whiners for a fans, I actually feel sorry for them.
They're a talented band - they don't need people to defend them with cheap attempts at insult.
aye, pal
I'm the petulant whiner.
I'm sorry my opinion in not the same as yours.
Pretty 'cheap' badge if that's all it takes to earn it.
HAHAHAHAHA
(belatedly)
Your review is true about their progression.
However, this 'progression' has meant they have left behind most of the factors I loved about the band. No quirky riffs or crazy lyrics. I would've preferred a progression without leaving so much behind.
Nobody over the age of about 14 listens to Foals do they?
Foals are ace
you douche-y melvin.
I named my favorite guitar Cassius
But then I sold it when I got a Telecaster, because then it was second best.
Telebastar
You name your guitars?
is your new one called Savalas?
got a 9/10 then...
Not only is Holy Fire utterly sublime, it’s a record that’s been six years in the making. A record where Foals have focussed their many triumphs and missteps into one cohesive statement. Trace ‘Inhaler’s surge of grungey scuzz back to its roots and you’ll find Yannis Philippakis screaming “cosine waves" as ‘Mathletics’ reaches its chaotic climax. Add a righteous wave of life-affirming positivity to ‘Miami’s searing funk and ‘My Number’ fizzles into life. Even ‘Moon’ is ‘Alabaster’ reincarnated as a more melancholic beast.

i really don't get why this record is getting so much hate on here
foals are a different band to what they were on antidotes. get over it.
I think there are one or two other reasons people dislike them
besides refusing to rehash the renowned modern classic that is Antidotes.
Streaming anywhere?
always had foals in the same horrible boat as the wombats et al when i was younger.
total life forever completely changed my opinion of them. it's amazing. as is my number.
inhaler however I can't stand. I think it sounds like Muse.
Fuck it all. This album is ace.
Milk & Black Spiders is probably the best song I've heard this year.
This is a very, very, very good album.
Slightly annoyed that it could've easily been flawless, but 'Inhaler' and 'Providence' are shite. No worries, though, i've deleted those, and now it stands up to most stuff. That run from 'My Number' through to and including 'Milk & Black Spiders', blimey.
Best thing i've heard this year so far, definitely.
Only heard Inhaler about three times (as much as the whole album)
And I still like it, but feel it will grate on me. By comparison, My Number sounds like a slightly-less good Miami, but I also think it will grow on me.
Overall enjoying it so far, though why would you "delete" those songs? Just make an "amended album" playlist.
Providence is one of favourite tracks..
But I think the whole album is very good. It's Foals being Foals, but a little bit better than last time.
I'm starting to think that
Bad Habit might be the best thing they have done.
Listened to the stream the other night
It was really, really good.
Don't get me wrong..
It's a good album but it's got nothing on TLF. I personally think stepson is a pointless song as it has little impact being the second last song, they should of thought about rearranging tracklisting.
3 or 4 great tracks on here
Especially milk and black spiders
Anyone else a bit disappointed with the production? All mids? Lack of clarity/detail. Some tracks are particularly mushy sounding

Guys, so far I think this might be my favourite of the year.
It's fucking excellent.
This keeps being blared out in my office
It's really standard, boring rock music. Yannis's voice is actually worse than it was originally which I can't quite believe, and that My Number track is just a weaker version of their MTB-aping days.
I ha
using 'smart' new phone to type this!
I was saying I have to agree. Definitely generic.
Had a couple more listens but my original opinion
remains largely unaltered. First 3 or 4 tracks are ok but second half, in particular, is bland. The lyrics are also borderline banal at times. Shame, I do like the first two albums.
Having listened to this album twice it seems really dull. I don't know
with a lot of british indie nowadays I just find it to be really really boring.
When I think back in the last 20 years we have had bands such as MBV, FSA, Slowdive, Add N To X, Broadcast, Stereolab, Bark Psychosis, Tindersticks etc. Who were all great, but they managed to make great pop music without sounding MOR. But the new wave such as Foals just seems really dull and uninspired.
See I'm only 2 listens in
But what I like about them is that they have their own 'sound' compared to a lot of mainstream indie acts and I sort of get lost in the haze of it all. They remind me of some of those bands in the respect that they try stuff out on their albums and it's not always 100% great, but always intriguing and different.
I've listened to it a few times
Still haven't entirely decided what I think of it as a whole yet, but I think some of the best, biggest songs they've ever written are on there. Inhaler, My Number, Late Night and Bad habit are all huge. It's the most mature and wholesome they've ever sounded, I think.
I'm a bit torn.
Seems to have a mix of a watered down Total Life Forever tracks, and some of their best to date. I enjoyed the second half of the album a lot more to the first. Milk and Black Spiders to Mon has a lovely run.
My Number is now thoroughly doing my head in
Everyone should just listen to this instead, it's basically a better version of the same song without the shitty vocals.

Phwoaar fucking hell Providence
That was incredible, I've never been sure on Foals but that song's just become my favourite track of the year so far after seeing that.
Both times I've seen Foals recently, Providence has stood out the most
And that's not just because it's been the only "new" track to my ears. Sounds dangerously good live
