I voted for The Rat. No contest really but
Would have gone for there goes the fear as no.2
I'm deciding between these
The Rapture - House Of Jealous Lovers
Interpol - Obstacle 1
Bon Iver - Skinny Love
Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
but really, my favourite track since March 2002 might be
Deerhunter - Nothing Ever Happened
Peaking Lights – Amazing and Wonderful
Wild Beasts – We Still Got The Taste Dancin' On Our Tongues
or something else I can't think of right now.
when was 2002?
The Rapture - House Of Jealous Lovers
By a country mile.
Lots of other good stuff, but, of those, that track is head and shoulders above the rest, imo.
Actually,
that might not strictly be true. Cash doing Hurt absolutely breaks me. But as an old song being done by a now dead heritage artist, it feels like it's out on it's own as the odd one out and doesn't entirely fit in with the spirit of the vote, so I'm exempting it.
Rounding out my top 10, in no particular order: Dizzee, Goldfrapp, Gossip, Franz, Kelis, Outkast, PJ, YYYs.
Seven Nation Army has been tinged by association with the footy and general overplaying. Same goes fire Over and Over, albeit to a lesser extent. All My Friends ranks too low as an LCD release compared to their 1st album era singles (prefer their earlier stuff!).
/\ agree with all of this entirely
Also, that Damien Marley track in the shortlist is a little tokenistic isn't it?
Gah, MIA should've been in that top ten. Make it an 11.
I know I was harsh to Paper Planes in last year's NME 100 thread..
.. but there's something quite cool in the way she takes a sample from something very downbeat and sour (and one of the Clash's few truly great songs), and turns it into a soaring anthem
From them, Chicago
Of all the Okkervil River songs they could choose
they choose Calling & Not Calling My Ex. Fucking hell.
hey JohnM
hey thewarn whats your favourite okkervil river song
never heard them
ok whats your favourite sufjan stevens song
Romulus
I like for the widows in paradise for the fatherless in ypsilanti
Oh yeah, that's in my top 10, for sure.
Michigan's my favourite Sufjan album, I reckon
heart-warming exchange.
All My Friends
no contest
Over And Over
Wake Up
that or
there goes the fear, or house of, or any one of another 10
I think I voted twice last week
Once for There There and once for That Man Will Not Hang.
Such Great Heights
No contest.
SO MANY TERRIBLE SONGS :'D
This list should really be titled
100 White Middle-Class Anthems of the 2000s
Calm down, it's not that funny
*you're not that funny.
Isn't this just ripping off last year's "100 Greatest Songs of NME's Lifetime?"
I would liveblog this if not for the above and the fact they think The Importance of Being Idle and Clocks are still worth listening to. FFS
Yes, because 'greatest songs of [publication]'s lifetime' is AN ENTIRELY NEW CONCEPT!!!!!111
Calm down
I just don't like it when there's too many lists. Lists scare me.
1. Why do they scare you?
2. For how long has this been a problem?
3. How many is too many?
4. Let me know if there's anything we can do to help.
I think it's a Maps / All My Friends toss-up
But I voted for Remember Me.
Milkshake.
I like how out of place it is
But it's no 212.
Some very dull songs by very good bands in here
P.S. Is it only me who thinks In for the Kill is the best single of the last 10 years? I know it's a tiny bit "Reflex" (the bar chain, not the band or song..)
Can you vote mulitple times?
If so, what is the point?
to give record label PR interns
something to do for the next 2 weeks.
You can't really, unless you're on a different browser or a different computer
Or clear history/delete cookies.
...so I took the liberty of voting again.
(again)
That Man Will Not Hang
ugh, so much choice
might just go for Do You Realise??
not been overplayed, it's not the song that defines the band like Maps or Skinny Love and it still hits me as much as it did the first times I heard it
That was my choice
Not sure it's even my favourite Flaming Lips song. Surprised no-one else here has gone for it, tbh.
i did
i did
obv weak become heroes
song of our times
I voted for Love You Better
Say what you like about The Maccabees, I will defend that song to the death.
was a toss up between the rat, all my friends and there there.
i went for there there, as i quite like radiohead.
Maps.
*Looks at list*
*Realises how thankful I am that 6Music still exists*
this is way too hard
My emo heart is being torn to shreds by the idea of voting for Yeah Yeah Yeahs over Bright Eyes, The Shins or the Postal Service, but then at the same time I keep thinking pragmatically about what might make the top 5 and one vote may bump it into a winning position.
'Milkshake' is incredible, but 6Music didn't really play 'Acapella', so I'm not sure it has a chance.
'Roscoe' is pretty much a perfect song, but I fear people might have forgotten that.
'Paris' is one of my favourite songs.
'Hey Ya' is one of my favourite songs.
'The Rat' is one of the greatest songs ever captured in a studio.
I released 'Oh My God' so I should probably vote for that.
(I voted for Postal Service)
golden retriever might be my least favourite furries
single, don't know anyone that likes it. odd choice.
I voted for The Rat
Would have had Heartbreaker second.
Take Me Out
Just fucking click on Take Me Out you idiots
So many excellent songs
I'm curious to know the results.
I chose Roscoe
just because I love Midlake so much.
