The Birthday Massacre [synthrock band]
The Birthday Massacre are an amazing synthrock band from Toronto, Canada. Band members: Chibi, Rainbow, Falcore, Rhim, Owen, and Nate Manor.
Some words:
- Incredibly catchy music.
- Their sound is a mix of metal riffs and classic synthpop sounds. I don't think there's a band that sounds exactly like them.
- TBM have a well defined music & image style, they like a lot the color violet, all of them have pseudonyms on stage, they're brilliant live, their artwork and image is inspired by some Japanese artwork or something etc.

Bumsnogger
ha ha
my niece loves this band.
I quite like Promise Me and Shallow Grave.
When you said
metal riff and synth pop in one sentence, I got vaguely excited but just been listening to the last album on Spotify and the only impression I get is that it's pretty 'safe' kind of music, even a bit bland tbh.
Don't want to sound too negative, I'll say she sings well and it was a pleasant half an hour.
The last album is their most pop sounding album.
I suggest you to check also the albums "Violet" (2005) and "Walking With Strangers" (2007). Then "Nothing and Nowhere" (2002) and "Pins and Needles" (2010).
"Violet" and "Walking With Strangers" are their best albums. Few songs from "Nothing and Nowhere" were re-recorded for V and WWS. Their debut album, "Nothing and Nowhere", is quite raw and "Pins and Needles" is their loudest album.
I quite surprised you didn't like their latest album, "Hide and Seek". I find it to be great, even if the metal riffs are few.
If you don't have time to listen to all that music, watch at least an official live DVD posted on Youtube (the length is just 1 hour): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SdhHiHz4zA
They're much raw live than on albums. You'll hear plenty of guitars. That would probably change your mind.
Chibi, Rainbow, Falcore, Rhim, Owen, and Nate Manor.
What
They're a bit weird. ;)
Chibi is the singer. She managed to keep hidden her real name for over 13 years and still counting.
