the intro is SHIT but the rest of it is good. I love the summer trumpets on it. Not mindblowingly brilliant, but it's a nice return.
it's not exactly the comeback anthem i was hoping for, but hopefully that's still coming.
timbo shows some signs that he's can advance on his increasingly rusty sound, but kanye would've been a much better choice for guest mega-rapper on this shit, jay struggles a bit.
This is really disappointing overall from where I'm sitting.

hopefully it's more of an introduction to his re-emergence rather than the actual comeback single, if you know what i mean.
1st single is good, but 2nd single is better.
Justified - Like I Love You was good, Cry Me A River was better.
FS/LS - SexyBack was good, My Love was way better.
20/20 - Suit and Tie is good, but I'm expecting the real goods to come with his next song.
While agreeing with the sentiment that this hopefully isnt the best he has to offer anymore.

Actually prefer it to the Black Album, which is just about the most overrated record in hip hop. Good selection of beats, a few bangers, and some lazy attempts at introspection. Snore. Put it 5th after RD, Blueprint, AG & Vol. 1.
What I'm trying to say is that he needs to stick to talking about slinging crack. It was all he was ever really good at... That and talking about being 'the best mayne' which has warn paper fucking thin.

the intro was scary, sounded like a fucking coldplay ballad was about to kick in
it's a good song, and i enjoy the way it evolves over the 7+ minutes, but it's still missing that kick.
I think they're both very decent, but I get the feeling Mirrors will end up being more preferable over Suit & Tie (even though I could listen to that harp loop all day).

I like how Timabaland is referencing My Love and some of his classic Aaliyah beats with the beatboxing. What with the almost boyband 'soaring' pop chorus it makes me feel nostalgic for R&B's early '00s heyday. I love how it basically transforms into a smooth The-Dream/Kellz style slow jam past 5 minutes too.
Also it totally doesn't feel 8 minutes long. Shit flys by.
except i think the production for the first half of the song is a bit too two-dimensional, which is the only problem.

A lot of my Twitter feed seems to be taking against it for being long and boring. For me, these spacious, expansive songs were my favourite thing about FutureSex and I'm glad to see him really run with it this time. Sure, he could of gone for more variation, and I think there's definitely an argument that Timbaland isn't actually capable of producing an album of concise pop magic any more, but personally I'm really happy with this direction. 'Don't Hold the Wall' and 'Mirrors' are probably my favourites so far and the last song is really nice too.
Having said that, I'm fully aware that I'm a massive fanboy and not in the best position to view this record with any kind of objectivity. So go ahead and tell me why I'm wrong.
I bet if Prince had released Sign O' The Times in 2013 around 40% of the people listening to it would've probably binned the second disc in favour of a game of Angry Birds or some shit. Instant gratification NOWNOWNOW gangnam harlem yolo iPhone culture etc.
It's brilliant, aside from tracks 1 and 3 which are guff. The songs have room to breath, they evolve naturally, plenty of interesting ideas in there, and some wonderful tender moments too. The last tune is amazing.
I think my earlier claim of it being indistinct is fair though insofar as it's an album-album rather than a collection of songs. It's melting into itself somewhat which is no bad thing.
and i dont know why i didnt expect this to be really great because both FS/LS and Justified hold up really well as full albums that are loaded with hits and are really creative. definite prince influence even moreso than on the other records, pretty much every track was really enjoyable and well put-together.
tunnel vision especially, timbaland went in on that production.
mirrors is probably the best tho.
and it doesn't help that none of them are as good as lovestoned.
i find the lounge style tracks a bit boring
but there are really good moments scattered throughout. and tunnel vision is fantastic.
I was thinking about buying a physical of this but nah, its been over a year since I wasted my money on physical music media. Why start up again, you know?
its so fucking sexy, the productions is ridiculously good. the songs are wonderful. I thought the whole coda in every song thing might be a bit overkill but it just works, even on multiple tracks.
but enjoy, by all means
I've just finished my first listen. There were more ideas (with a 80% hit rate, at least) than most artists would manage in an entire career. The only song that didn't work (although the coda was ace) was Let The Groove Get In.
Loved the N*Sync reference at the end of Strawberry Bubblegum :D
Agreed with Vian. JT makes it sound so effortlessly sexy.
Think it will reward repeated listens too.
Dont Hold The Wall coda/switch-up was made just for me, A+ stuff. The whole song is great, though. Kinda vintage Timbaland but still sounds 2013 fresh. Love the ever-so-slight details that creep in the action over the last few minutes. Talkbox for life.
Which for a chart-pop album is basically 9.0+ from them.
that 8.4 BNM means the following happened:

it just sounds too generic. the rest is pretty good though, especially don't hold the wall and tunnel vision. and the end of pusher love girl rules. i'm just a j-j-j-j-junkie for your love!
Don't hold the wall & Let the groove in were instant favourites but the singles have also grown on me massively, as has Pusher love girl. The lyrics of Strawberry bubblegum make my teeth grind a little but musically it's gorgeous. The only shit thing really is that ballad about 2/3s in and Jay-Z's pointless rap on Suit & tie.
Overall, probably just prefer Futuresexlovesounds in it's entirety, but prefer it to the debut (though obviously the debut has 2 or 3 of his best singles on it).

Most fun show I've been to for ages, played pretty much everything I wanted to hear, Jay turned up for his (admittedly not great) spot on Suit and Tie, all the songs from ten years ago still sound contemporary, and a whole lotta bootie-shaking going on.
senorita and sexyback really stood out, the recorded versions aren't my favourites.
he seemed awkward on stage and i'm not used to the canned vocals of pop shows. great band though.
