Yo La Tengo - "Fade" - Streaming on Pitchfork's Advance

http://pitchfork.com/advance/1-fade/

I am not so sure about the Advance website, seeing as if I am streaming something I am certainly working in the foreground, but if it means more high quality advance streams then I am all for it.

  • The website seems to promise

more than it can deliver (they make it seem like a revolution rather than just another way to stream an album).

Having said that, Yo La Tengo! who can complain.

The album is short, sweet and perfect for dark wintry nights.

  • Ahhh I love Yo La Tengo

'Well You Better' sounds like 'All Your Secrets' and as the latter is one of my favourite songs ever that is no bad thing.

  • was going to start a thread about Pitchfork Advance in general...

but let's just go with this, sounds a pretty decent album too.

I think having a pop-out player (like NPR) is best because people often stream alongside other tasks...but really I'm the set-up really prevents people from doing this. Sometimes I actually do just like to stare at the artwork, if its good.

I guess one positive you could say is, if Pitchfork are now involved, even more bands will be encouraged to go down this route, until it becomes the done thing.

  • Just tried to play Dilla's Donuts on this

Bit of a shambles; big breaks between the tracks which completely ruins the flow of the record (pretty much all the tracks should segue into each other). In this case I already own a copy of the record, but it puts me off listening to a record for the first time on Advance.

Clearly needs a lot of work, I'd rather stream elsewhere or download.
