You know how it goes, anything goes dance mongrel business.
Awsome bassline/garage vocal track to kick off the year. Pretty sure he's doign an album this year too, sweet.
Low slung garage/bassline thing.
DJ HAUS - THUG HOUZ ANTHEM!
Some kinda UTTU style Daft Punk mashup
Coming out on a Non Plus+ comp I think. Not heard anythign else off it yet I dont think but its five plates deep so there will prob be somethign else good on it. Prob from Kassem Mosse and Lowtec in partic.
even if they are releasing all five 12"s separately.
the vocal's kinda terrible? well if not terrible just really obvious and kinda cheesy
Marcellis Workshop 12"
Actress - Silver Cloud
Blink and you'll miss it 12".
MGUN - The Near Future [The Trilogy Tapes]
Odd Detroit techno thing.
love it, sounds like it's coming out of the ether yet bangs hard at the same time.
The Upstairs Apt. EP on Don't Be Affraid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_cGLBOKW6s love that track, sounds like a spaced out underwater acid thing.
One on Wild Oats Kyle Halls label who he also colaborates with on the NSNT PRJCT from a few years ago, which to be honest I wasn't feeling much at the time but now I'm wondering if I should go and grab it.
Big thumping house on Hotflush. Came out in December but deserves more attention.
Hotflush kinda fell off big time for me last year bar maybe Lando Kal and he prob did his best stuff elsewhere too.
That Jimmy Edgar album was an abomination.
to the extent that I genuinely find it's affected my love of Hotflush and his music, although that has a lot to do with the decline in quality as well I guess.
people have been calling him a twat for many many years and now that twiter exists its prob many many many more haha. But yeah no idea what he's been on about the music is enough to put me off without taking a closer look.
Quite like some of his trancier stuff.
He's great on Twitter too, very smart guy.
the Marcellis record is blinding.
Could be cool.
the preview sounds amazing
SR Mix #149: Joe [Hessle Audio/Hemlock]
LWE Podcast 149: Levon Vincent
RA.345 Answer Code Request
loads quicker than I thought it would, sweet as. Can't go wrong with a bit of Pev.
Buy a test pressing whilst you can!
Really really excellent LP that deserves more attention
I have absolutely murdered this playlist since you made it last year.
Any chance of something similar for stuff from the last few months or so? Cheers :)

big up Rob Booth.
Noisy grindin sorta techno thing from Opal Tapes. Love track 3 and 5 at the mo. I need to get on that 1991 opal tapes album n'all dunno how I missed that.
i seem to love pretty much everything that comes out on opal tapes though tbh
Taken from LTECH003 - Bandshell - 'Caustic View' EP
nic hamilton is smashing it with the visuals atm too
Seeing as we don't have a House/Techno thread this year (yet?) this can go in here.
I was just gonna post stright up house/techno here to really. Unless there is a big call for another thread.
Function is the big one here for me, can kinda leave the rest right now. Hypercolour are always hit'n'miss like that for me tho.
The lines are so blurred that a lot could go in either thread anyway.
Just caught onto this right at the end of last year, its so infectious. Its some kinda lo-fi synth funk thing like Dam-Funk or whatever. Its pure vibes.
Going Good 001, sounds awesome.

Have the choice between...
Omar S/Virgo Four/Move D and Perc/Andy Stott/Lowjack/Mondkopf
for my birthday club. Leaning towards Perc even though I've already seen the rest of the bill. Opinions?
Never really been into Andy Stott I think he's kinda arse/boring. I dig what I've heard of Perc tho, not heard any Lowjack or Mondkopf I don't think. Move D is a load of fun as a DJ prob oen of the best around and I love Omar S on the whole. Love stuff from Virgo but yeah they're prob a nostalgia act and I don't have much time for that kinda thing after being bored sensless by original house guys recently like Kerri Chandler and Moodymann who sucked so hard it was unreal. But yeah do what ya like haha.
But I don't know if my entourage will.
Really want to see Omar-S and Move D but Perc has been on the list for ages...
might've been an off night? although i suppose he's not the greatest dj in the traditional sense
What are the rest of the line ups like?
I haven't seen Stott or Perc so I'd probably hit that, seen Omar S and caught a bit of Move D on NYD though. Both v good, Move D is a great DJ.
if nothing else it'll probably be a bit more 'fun'/celebratory but it depends what you're looking for i guess. move d is a great dj, have yet to catch omar-s.
Some of this kinda sounds to me like its taking off where Darkstar left with Need You in some ways, that digital accordian-ish sounding sound. Its got a mad trancy bleepy Damu meets Zomby thing going on too. Keysound are gonna be interesting again this year, they're building a little kinda scene of their own almost with Beneath, Logos, LHF, Visionist, Wen, Walton, Vibezin, e.m.m.a. etc...
Also this E.M.M.A. stuff sounds nice. Definite Zomby vibe about it, that Cherry Favour track sounds like it was literally lifted off One Foot...
Anyway, <3 Keysound.
really sounds like Artifact or something rather than Damu in my mind even tho it is Damu... I like it but kinda miss the epic melodic bleeps he's so good at. Cool to hear somthing more tracky from him tho.
So should be ace.
Only into a few tracks so far by them, maybe one... That one on the EE sampler was the best I'd heard from them I think it had more slink to the beats than anything else I'd heard from them. Early days for them tho, could be good.
Will probably pick up that Call Super anyway, sounds good from that sampler.
good for a laugh. http://www.dopejams.net/010113.html
Perfectly pleasant but doesn't deserve anything like the hype it's got.
Kind of a shame that Dope Jams are closing down too (their shop anyway, apparently the site will still be going), although their record shop elitist schtick probably lost them as much business as it won.
i dunno, bit weird that people (producers or whoever) get so worked up about it all the same.
Jus-Ed made a diss track for getting a mention in that: http://www.factmag.com/2013/01/07/stream-dj-jus-eds-dum-jams-dish-his-diss-track-aimed-at-new-york-record-store-dope-jams/
The track Dope Jams picked on was lame mind. I love myself some Jus-Ed tho he makes so many killer tracks but yeah the odd one slips in thats not to hot. Underground Quality is a wicked label.
You going to be at Fabric tomorrow? Saw SR were in Room 3, lineup looks great.
train/petrol is pretty epic price wise from up north where I live and thats before I even get to London. Can't afford it right after crimbo. Lineup looks amazing tho.
been wanting to see optimo for ages
A side of the Silver Cloud 12" that appeard and dissapeared in seconds late last year. Its getting a full release sometime this month tho I think.
out in feb. keysound taking absolutely no time at all to run tings in 2013. follows the beneath ep nicely with sinister and spacious 130 grimey/funky rollage business.
really hope they put some stuff out from EMMA too this year. her showcase on the keysound end of year special was >>>>>>>>
Mix from late last year...
I've still not got around to listenign to that end of year Keysound spesh I need to get on that. Only just had time to dig into that Beneath double 12" as well and another Beneath 12" on Tectonic just hit my mat this morning too.
And I'm also not convinced it's Trim anymore haha. Either way, point stands.
Only just clocked who it was after recognising his voice but not narrowing it down. Cant think of the track tho.
Just a freestyle, send for chipmunk on westwood ages ago.
Secret Thirteen mix 050 - Orphx
lots of great industrial / techno / experimental electronic stuff
Good to see a proper vocal over a Lil Silva track, sounds great.
xlr8r have given away what's long been my favourite dub of theirs. http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3/2013/01/carmen-gold-st 2013 is going to be amazing for these guys. i can feel it.
being playing the sonic router mix they did last year a lot lately
really loved that, very funky

Yeah new one from me.
I kinda hate early Jan, this mix kinda sums up my feelings to it vibes wise, dirty, grinding low slung fucked up dark and long techno shit haha.
Haven't heard Karenn or MCMXCI yet, good chance to hear both of them. Will never know how you afford all this vinyl though...
that the two unknown Actress tracks are: Silver Cloud Dream Come True / Floating In Ecstasy in that order in this mix now I've seen it pop up in a shop and not on the white lable I've got.
previews sound incredible, cannot wait for this.
kinda boring tho, not as fun as the night slugs release the other year, which was also a bit boring mind...
does have the odd killer track tho: Batak Groove, Battle For Middle You, Batty Knee Dance. Batak Groove being the best by miles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiAJLBT8ue0
find the vocal sample really annoying, same with Au Sauve.
"OH BABY" is probably the least original thing I've ever heard. It's a shame because I really love the actual track underneath. Battle For Middle You is pretty similar in that people just cling to that vocal hook, but I guess it's not as bad.
Any version of that track doesn't have the annoy stuttering eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh sample cutting snippet thing that Au Seve and Footsteppin have that makes the track feel like it goes on forever.
Kind of respect him for taking elements of good music somewhere into the mainstream.
he was on radio one for a while I think and Au Seve, battle for middle you have been pretty big crossover hits in house circles that wouldn't normaly go near bassy stuff like big room tech house people and all that. Think he did some production for Jesse Were, dunno, is that big? I tryed listening to his radio one show once but, fuck me it was boring. But then Mosca's radio one shows where boring too and he's a load more fun genraly than Bashmore, same with Skream and Bengas show who where insanly fun on Rinse. Dont really wana hear Jackmaster's new show on radio one incase its boring too haha.
Bashmore has never pretended to be anything other than he is. Mosca has always come across as incredibly condescending and then he goes and makes that godawful Katy B version of Bax.
Anyway, Bashmore didn't 'take elements of good music into the mainstream', he just made catchy songs that got popular.
Bax was insane and even the more techy house stuff recently is still more fun than Bashmore. But yeah Bashmore has never pretended to be anything but what he's doing now, I mean his first release was on Dirty Bird and they're an arse big room tech house label.
Never gonna happen though.
Wouldn't say the Jackmaster show was essential listening, but it wasn't boring. Tracklist here:
I thought he was a regular now, but I can't see any other shows scheduled.
cause of the four of them rotating, so the next one won't be for a while.
I really enjoyed it actually, a good fun listen and by far the best show on R1 at the moment.
He's annoyingly, er, un-prolific.
Not sure I'd ever bother listening to any of these Radio 1 shows tbh.
Coming on TTT apparently, sounds pretty wicked.
Dispite it being one of my favourite Boddika tracks along with Breezin' and somat else... and Mickey Pearce being a badman, I dunno if I need this one. Seems about 2 years too late.
Nice dreamy stuff on WerkDiscs, good to see the label back on a roll again. This is a free taster from the forthcoming EP.
Been a while since I've seen any good dance coverage on there, prob since Blackdown left them a year or two ago.
Glad Uno NYC got mentioned, really odd little label with a few great but completely dissimilar releases. The EPs that Gobby and Don Froth put out for them are both awesome.
Not heard much else, just seen these from SFV Acid tho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvYe1PFruek / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW8NU8tyiNc pretty nice.
Boomkat said: "slo-mo dub-techno for fans of Andy Stott or Indigo". Not so sure about that but it is nice.
It's alright, solid but not spectacular. Much as I like it I'm getting a bit annoyed at mixes that drop Studio Power On into places that it really doesn't fit.
Was looking forward to hearing it. Seeing him with Karenn & Redshape in 2 weeks time
He's on Rinse every 1st + 3rd Thursdays 11pm-1am of the month, if you've got a UFO shortage.
big fan of his stuff
or have you got a link if not?
Only got it because they send it early to the subscribers. Don't think the Fabric mixes usually end up on Soundcloud/Mixcloud or anything like that either.
But following the Ben Klock, Daniel Avery and Zip ones was always a big ask. It was like the Oneman one for me, a good listen but no real risks and not that much that I hadn't heard before.
Ben Klock one was great though. I'll probably check this out anyway; he's done decent mixes before.
But I don't think he'll ever top that Trilogy Tapes cassette- probably his apex.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdo3lsCDIBE / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UyYtC0xtp0
First solo Silkie bits I've been into for a while. Neckback sounds like a grimy version of something from the castlevania soundtrack.
This might be the first thing I've been into on 3024 since about 2011 with Mosca's Wavey EP.
Kevin McPhee and Gingy's tracks sounding really good.
Good work Martyn.
Some ridiculous bassline, anyone?
Mala in Wigan: Meditate on Donk Weight
BIG CHOON KEVIN
especially the burial one
these have made my day
Better than the last Disclosure effort anyway.
debut EP for SUS - http://www.factmag.com/2013/01/21/premiere-stream-an-ep-of-goosebump-raising-techno-from-brooklyn-newcomer-clay-wilson/
"goosebump-raising" - the 'Ash' side is so wicked.
Been trying to find good rawkus bass stuff, failed and found yet more deep spaced out dubby house music again.
New one sounds mad, Ahead is going to make dance floors fall over if it ever gets played on one, its mad. Endgame is a banger.
Huismans is the man.
'Adventurous banging discoid Techno/UKG science - TIP!'
norman nodge dropped endgame last night
For that new Nonplus compilation that's dropping soon
Never been much of a fan of their work together unfortunately..
it's ace though.
love this bleepy bubbly style.
Gerv from LV said this is forthcoming in that Keysound crimbo spesh, its huge.
collection of pretty much everything decent that's just coming out.
I don't usualy shit on random PR stuff that hits my inbox, its usualy a case of ignore and delete but this made me lol. Title of the email was *Radiohead meets Bass Music*...
'Rounds are what Kieran Hebden would sound like if he started running a yoga studio-based shamanic service where instead of serving up intense hallucinogens like Ayuhasca he opted for sniffing stinky marker pens.' – NME
So very shit, well done you made me lol.
It kinda bangs but yeah dunno why I'd play it above the massive original.
Butterz on some kinda turbo garage tip.
Took me a while to get into Mad Disrespect, but I kinda dig this one right off the bat.
Some dude from the Ukraine and it kinda bangs. Has a Kevin McPhee remix on it too.
Free download - sounding good so far.
Been loving a lot of what I hear from Black Acre and this is easily my favourite thing so far this year
Swamp 81, the radio show is so shit now. There is a thing at the mo for really boring stripped down dark tech house outa that camp thats so dull its unreal. Like its taking the dubstep/funky darkside and sticking it to really boring 4x4 beats. When its delivered all at once it sounds so shit. I like some of the stuff in moderation and there are obvious exceptions like Joy Orbison, Mickey Pearce, etc that are onto something but then you have endless tedius stuff from people like Paleman, Zed Bias, Chunky, New York Transit Authority, Thefft, Dusky, Boddika, etc... You hear it in other areas too from people like South London Ordnance and even Artifact and Damu are starting to sound the same from their last singles. Its so tedius all at once, maybe if it was mixed up a little it wouldn't sound so shit, I dunno. Anyone else noticed this?
even with having some good artists tucked away on there.
I go to Swamp nights to hear fucking weird shit, not to listen to the same dark 4x4 shit everyone else is playing. It's a real shame, maybe they'll work their way out of it. To be fair, Zed Bias, Klose One and Mickey Pearce all delivered good sets that night but still.
cos there is still good stuff in there so it still feels like something good could come out of it but the swathes of shit are really starting to drown it all. Its like one step away from being that boring tech house thing like Huxley or whatever. Hell even T.Williams is going that way too. Dunno what the draw is all of a sudden for that big room tech house thing.
Mickey is an underated DJ and really coming into his own as a producer too. He was a badman as Shortstuff but hell he's upping his game.
Fucking love his productions, his remixes when he first switched aliases were ridiculous.
But yeah as you say it's frustrating, house and 4x4 stuff is taking over the bigger nights at the moment, and all the smaller nights are impossible to drag anyone I know along to ha. Basically just gonna start going to stuff on my own once I have a pad sorted in LDN I think.
Loefah hasn't quite gone full on into that Animal Youth, Route 94 mode yet, now thats the real hardcore shit of this ilk.
he's playing here for free next week on a thursday and I can go as I have friday off... Here's hoping he's doing something more interesting by then. Scratcha DVA on the bill too, which will be great if it's anything like his Rinse breakfast show.
Omar S on friday was a bit insipid too, far too much stuff that sounded far too similar, every now and again he'd drop a great track, but too much disappeared into mulch. Move D was super fun though.
Is a lot of fun, he kinda plays a bit housy too but more in a chunky, swung fun kinda way with lots of synths and grimyness. Dunno Loefah might be alirght he's just hit'n'miss don't think thats anything new tho. I've been to lots of DMZs where he's been shit at dubstep too and plenty where he's been ace at it. He's just got a bit pradictable if you listen to him more than once a year now, so if you haven't he will prob be alright haha.
yeah loefah was terrible when i saw him a few months ago. played both au seve and battle for middle you. wat
Au Seve at the minute.
it's just so obnoxious
but this is so awful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kT_NEOWpVM
Machinedrum, Blawan and more. Good.
Really want to go!
37 minutes and 55 minutes are some serious ceiling raisers. The Low Jack set on the related videos is good as well, from the same night.
Can someone find this on YouTube for me?
Hang on I'll find it, was on his Facebook page.
Have a new one out, still kinda trying to work out if they're any good or not outside of their colabs with Blawan. There is somthing really stale about their arrangments when they aint with him that puts me off, yet I love the sounds they make so much. Kinda wish they'd just make some sounds and givbe them to other producers to make tracks out of. Couple of these sound promising tho, but then you cant hear the whole arrangment without getting the 12" really, damn.
I'm not really that fussed about it since I've got all teh singles I wan't from it already. But its prob a good intro to the last year or so from Night Slugs to people that haven't been paying attention to them. Stalker Ha, Drum Track and Silo Pass are pretty spesh. On the fence about a lot of the rest and L-Vis is still awful, standard.
He does do a good job once in a blue moon
this sounds pretty bangin https://soundcloud.com/clone-nl/clone-jack-for-daze-017-l-vis
and you know, bring in the kaaaaaatz goes off
from what I've heard of it anyway. Didn't like that Night Slugs construction series thing either, didn't really work for me. Bring in the Kaaaaaaaatz is fine but he doesn't do much to it, I dunno why you'd play his dub above the original.
they bang, I just find them boring most of the time and kinda bandwagon hoppy a lot of the time which is really suprising considering the label he runs but there you go.
Thought you would've loved that
Didn't quite match up to his singles: Refix EP, Magic Drops, Waterworx. I really liked The Courts and almost like How We Relate To The Body. Found the album a hard listen really, don't know why.
Coming on Bleep sometime. Sounds alright from the clips, not as mad as Cactus/Porcupine, could be good.
I like it a lot.
its some kinda mini ear treat.
forthcoming on Well Rounded 25th Feb
video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbTFZW-YQXk
Sounds like its mostly his stuff and its pretty wicked. Dro is a badman.
First half an hour of their live set was just pandaemonium. Like an all out nuclear war breaking out in a factory.
Ben UFO was cool, but he seems to be too obsessed with variety at the moment or something, there's not enough coherence between what he's mixing at all and he doesn't play quite enough instantly recognisable stuff for that to work live. Good to hear him drop some Perc and the Shackleton Kasai Allstars mix as well as some other stuff.
Redshape was interesting, half of it was really shit cheesy jock techno but half of it was really cool. he finished with a super housey euphoric track which was brilliant, anyone familiar with his work can tell me what it might have been?
First Punch Drunk release of 2013. Very nice.
All DJ Q productions.
I'm cool with the name post-dubstep, there are some very 'post-dubstep' sounding stuff out there. Is all the stuff in that little doc post-dubstep nope but it sure is a thing now, more so than it was when the term first appeared.
Crazy live PA set from Shawn O'Sullivan, who also trade crazy Regis/Unit Moebius inspired stuff as Vapauteen for L.I.E.S.
Sounds like a storm blowing itself out over the sea or something; lovely sounds.
this one, jeeeeeeeez.
Shes giving a load away.
JD Twitch from Optimo & Neil Landstrumm innit.
New EP on Ben UFO's label. That track 'Perc' was pretty nice, but this is a bit more varied. Skittery skeletal Actress techno.
It was on Ben UFOs Fabric CD, not his label, that was the last EP on Hessle Audio. This one is on Mute's Liberation Technologies imprint who put out King Felix (Laurel Halo) and British Murder Boys last year. /endnerdmode
It is bloody great. Scratcha was so much fun last night, Loefah too, he played mostly dubstep from 2008. It was brilliant.
Thats the time you wanna catch Loefah in my opinion, Scratcha is a badman his productions are kinda underrated somehow even tho he's on Hyperdub haha.
Boddika & Joy Orbison – Mercy (Boddika’s VIP)
Kassem Mosse – Broken Patterns
they spiced the sound up a bit on Faint with Ramadanman but I don't need to hear a VIP of this or anything on this tip from them for a while yet its way over done and has been for some time now.
It seems a bit too simple for me, as much as I love the sounds he's using the rhythms aren't as powerful as some of the other stuff of that ilk
It's got a monotonous drive that I get a kick from- I've been going through a lot of obscure 80s industrial/no-wave tapes lately and it mirrors the production of them quite interestingly.
It's a bit like people who say the Raime LP should more variation, blowing in and out. That's not really the point- they quickly build a level of tension and then sustain it until you feel it wrenching your gut.
Which is probably why i'm even mire confused that Powell hasn't been doing it for me... It all sounds a little too close to Cabaret Voltaire to me, maybe that's it.
I get the same feeling from Powell that I do Andy Stott, ideas look good on paper but they don't move me when I hear them. They sound like they're playing dress up like a lot of that modern love/boomkat endorsed stuff and I'm not sure why but I get that vibe from it. There needs to be an edge there somewhere that puts it over and I can't hear it or place much of a reason for why it aint there but it aint.

4. Maxmillion Dunbar – Kangroo [forthcoming RVNG Intl]
5. Blue Daisy presents Dahlia Black – Fuck A Rap Song [37 Adventures]
Another quality chunk of choons from Oli.
Hear the whole album there... I'm interested. Not given i ta spin yet but he's usualy ace. THis one sounds dreamy as fook.
Not big on the haziness, prefer the stomp of his stuff like Wiggle or Bare Feet.
didn't grab me full on, Seems like a creeper since its so laid back.
This is prob my fave Dunbar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeBXwm2JL1A / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0P4y9TKpbM / and the other one that aint on youtube.
This Brooklyn guy has a debut album out in a couple of months (23 April). He called it "Raw Solutions" and here is a track from it:
People need to be more imaginative.
I thought this one was Salva didn't realise it was another Slava, Salva, Ssaliva ummm person.
Ssalvia is also Cupp Cave. The other two I'll have to work on haha.
might be the first thing I've been really intrigued about on Software. I always get Slava and Ssaliva mixed up.
but I like that Bleep are making this blog into 12"s.
There should be more photos like this: http://www.xlr8r.com/files/features/frontpage_images/bluntFPI_060910.jpg but Mickey has gone all sexy now haha: http://bassmusic.me/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/mickeypearce.jpeg
is the one where he's just standing in lidl
Boddika doesn´t really look depressed, he looks more like those dudes who go sit in a corner to wear off some really crappy E´s and are always about to puke.
they cover 'A Love from Outer Space', and as a bonus track there's this Mugwump remix of it which I just can't stop listening to
What do people like on this tip at the moment? Keeping it UK like the article mainly...
I think Blawan's projects are head and shoulders above the rest at the moment. Karenn with Pariah, Parassela with The Analogue Cops (they Italian but still gonna mention it) and Trade with Surgeon is promissing. They're easily the most consistent anyway. The rest like Truss, Perc, AnD, MPIA3, etc have their moments but never really hit that sweet spot for long for me. Surgeon has had soem good new stuff again recently and there was a killer remix from Female a year or two ago that was hard as nails. I've not really investergated much Regis or Blackest Ever Black because the little I've knowingly heard hasn't done much for me but it might be good I dunno... There is just something really wicked about Blawan's stuff, it doesn't fall into the trap of just being dark and banging, its got an energy to it that keeps it moving more than a lot of his counter parts. Its some fun shit overall if you're in the mood for it mind.
i can take or leave some of it though. still exploring. Rob Booth's had a lot of mixes from those kind of heads lately , http://electronicexplorations.org/?show=truss-mpia3
But I would never really consider listening to his later, grittier shit at home. It's too just too raw and raucous, don't really see the appeal for 'headphone' listening. The only BEB shit I really go in for in that respect is Raime because they're fucking gripping and it's incredibly atmospheric. But yeah I basically think that Blawan and Analogue Cops and that have their place, and it's very much firmly within the dirty walls of the fort at 4am at Dimensions.
I haven't read this article yet btw. Also I just wanna say I'm looking forward to Pariah doing some shit on his own again soon cos he's got a lot more to give away from the relentless 4x4 scene for sure.
seems to be consistently improving. The FSG album is outstanding as well. I sometimes find it hard to know exactly what fits in to this sort of thing, Gary Beck had an album last year that was excellent but I don't know to what extent it's applicable to this. Probably a bit too house-y I guess.
Seem to be in the minority though. I listen to pure gritty raucous techno when running
yeah i think the best releases on blackest ever black aren't the techno ones
lovely bits and pieces here
is this tread already getting fucked up for you people too? I get an odd placked out text thing sometimes when my mouse passes over the odd line.
I've dug the last few...
J.Robinson - The Maasai: https://soundcloud.com/jrobinson/sets/smchr001-j-robinson-a-the
Nice deep rolling purcussive dubstep thing.
Wen - Commotion: https://soundcloud.com/w3n/commotion
Rolling dark UKF hybrids, out now!
Vester Koza - The Pagan Groove of San? Francisco
Deep underwater hypnotic house.
only just checked it out.
he's got another good'un up now too.
Like this, got a much ravier feel than his LIES stuff.
He one of those guys that makes awsome sounds, you know with all them synths and that but I still can't remember any of his tracks ever. They sound fine enough and yeah this ones alright but then its gone.
Like this vibe more than his trad progy synth explorations tho, reminds me of old bleep tracks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5h8OVOFOYc / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBgztBW01jg
Mondkopf has put out an EP on Perc Trax. It sounds like an EP on Perc Trax should sound.
But I've seen him multiple times over here, and in a town full of Berlin-lite copyists (at least that's how it feels these days), someone from Paris who generally opens his DJ sets with Tuvalan throat singing and or gregorian chanting and then follows with a mix of fucked up dark techno and drone and noise is always to be saluted.
listen to it here
Stumbled across this: http://www.mixcloud.com/Mondkopf/bodytonic-podcast-oct-2011/
Judging from that tracklist I'm going to either love or hate this.
His full length LP is good, but his live mixes are the best.
I shall rectify that now. Right now.
Thought it was going to be one of those eclectic mixes that didn't really fit together but the Leviathan, Darkthrone and SunnO))) stuff was barely noticeable and didn't disrupt the mix at all. Tracklist didn't list Altogether Lost by Emptyset either, which was an unexpected treat at the 40 minute mark.
Definitely one of my most anticipated releases for this year, this flip of Rick Ross has been tiding me over: http://adhoc.fm/post/dj-rashad-cant-hold-back/
Dude is pretty much the king of footwork in my view. Teklife is a masterpiece, and word of any new material is pretty much guaranteed to have me salivating.
Rashad is indeed the king of footwork. The album is something else. Prob my favourite from last year. There is nothing like it. Did you hear his remix of a remix:
Yeah, that track destroys.
he puts up allsort on there. I think there is going to be a Rashad & Manny EP on Lit City at some point, can't wait for that too.
just seems to come out of absolutely nowhere.
Hurrah! Ensemble Skaletrik suggests Ensemble Economique.
Anyway, last album was killer, so this wil be too... I think I like him best when he's doing dubby long form noise John carpenter workouts.
Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the ambient/noise thread, really odd plunderphonics thing on PAN. Quite noisy and choppy but has a really cool horror movie feel in places.
New release on a new label but still the same sort of thing from these two, which is no bad thing IMO. This track's pretty typical, woozy central melodies skittish mid-paced beats that give it a very relaxed feel.
not sure why, it just hasn't grabbed me yet. Its all a bit too wishy washy prog synth overload a lot of the time for me. Looking forward to hearing more from Bookworms tho the 12" on LIES is awsome.
It's the other side of the LIES coin, the prog synth stuff of Legowelt, Steve Moore etc. compared to the dirty, noisy techno of Torn Hawk, Vapauteen, BonQuiQui and Two Dogs in a House.
I dunno, they seem really ace at making sounds but nothing more to me. Kinda frustrating in that sense. Xosar kinda straggles that line too but makes it bump a big more somehow. I mean in Legowelts remixes of Xosar you can hear it in action Legowelt just makes the stuff sound really boring but with good synth sounds. In this one that nice bumpin Bookworms vibe isn't there at all its all summer picknick phone advert synths and no real vibe.
if this stuff didn't have any beats at all or odder beats it might work better for me but with a 4x4 trundle behind it it doesn't seem top fit at all.
I quite like the phone advert synths though ;)
Previews up. Drums Please is madness.
Every track appears to be a monstrous jam. I need this now. Especially like Let It Go... 'ardcore meets footwork, what could be better?
Out 25/02/13 on the "Greeen Linez, Patrice & Friends" album from http://sulk-records.bandcamp.com
Great selection of ambient/drone/oddball techno in there. Disclosure: interview by me.
easily the best he's done from these samples.
'El Portal' & 'Busy Signal' are quality.
I absolutely love Funkystepz approach to remixes - just grab an r'n'b track they like and fuck with it unofficially, they do it so often and pick some great songs. Plus they always sound great too which is a plus.
he's put up an epic amount of mixes from the olden days.
Not a bad effort, makes me wanna hear HEALTH have a go at it more than anything.
needs heavy drums tho
This ones fruity. Some kinda early summer anthem in the making business.
He helped run, DJed at and co-founded Ruffage Sessions with the Hessle Audio guys in Leeds for years before they all moved off to London, quality DJ.
He's setting up a raw techno label, you know like everyone else haha. But yeah I was skeptical cos his own techno bits haven't been to hot on the most part but I'm turned around by this mix. Its nice raw, bangin as all hell and fun. Plus its got a techno track by Silkie in it which is pretty wicked and soudns exactly as you'd expect a Silkie techno track to sound.

As far as grime going on where I am, there’s no scene to speak of and I hope it stays that way. I think I’m an anomaly in that most people doing grime outside of the UK aren’t very good, they don’t get it.
Call Super - The Present Tense [Houndstooth]
Holdie Gawn/Micawber - Graenul/Shinkansen [Sylphe]
His new Opal Tapes cassette is really great. Charmingly entitled P*ss Fell Out Like Sunlight. Very much on the Ekoplekz noisy plunderphonics trip, but with a lot more Actress-wooze about it.
they might know one another somewhere along the line...
Listened to it a couple of times today, pretty much what you'd expect from those involved. Touch This Skin would be the strongest track but it never quite gets where I want it to but otherwise it ticks all the filthy techno boxes.
Also in Surgeon news, his new one is streaming on Resident Advisor.
dose what it says on the tin, solid all round. Don't know if it reached the highs of the last Karenn double 12" or Parassela tho.
It's like someone let a bunch of kids with ADD out on ableton.
First review I've writen in ages.
This LP is due on March 25 (but already leaked today).

Only really moved by Geek'd Up at the moment mind.
"a larger-than-life synth breakdown – wait until 1.05 on the below Soundcloud clip to see what we mean." - just two chords that sound like they came from Wut? Great...
This sounds nice enough. Was hoping for more hyper 2-step stuff from Deadboy really, especially as he's been away so long, although Black Reign is cool I guess. That breaks one is kinda overshadowed by the new Sully really.
I think, works. Dunno I hardly vere read bits they have to say nowadays. Just listen to stuff. Its a mission enough to navigate around without having to read the words too.
But yeah not keen on the bits that use his own voice. doesn't work as well as his hyperactive cut up stuff but I guess thats a played out sound now.
It's like a constant feed of new stuff. But yeah, the writing is sort of shit.
its usualy the first place for news that then appears everywhere else. But yeah the writing suffers.
The interviews are usualy a good read tho. Oh and they have good mixes on occasions. Been a while since I've enjoyed a mix mind. Mickey Pearce in December was the last one I thinks worth a listen, before that Ryan Hemsworth in October, DJ Q in August before that.
wish more people could afford to do stuff like that.
I think I play it more than the albums. Have got the Hemsworth one but never listened to it all the way through. Same with the 3 hr Hieroglyphic Being monster.
I don't think DJ Q has any albums yet. He's doing one this year tho I think. Are you thinking of DJ Qu the house guy from Strength music kind in that Jus-Ed Underground Quality deep house scene? He's got some albums. I love both Q & Qu haha.
DJ Q - Bassline, garage, fun as fuck, wonderbeast.
DJ Qu - Deep hypnotic deep house thats acctual deep house.
rather than album
I always forget that exists, if I want a DJ Q fix I always go to one of his mixes too.
Propper dip shit dramatic fun time garage with stupid minimal techno kinda style cartoon builds.
i really like 'ariola', definitely along similar lines to geffen though.
the whole set its from is pretty much all out ace fun.
if you have spare three hours haha
Optimo b2b Move D
Better than the Lucy & Xhin albums I think.
Pretty much exactly what you'd expect but still :D
Think it's the kind of thing I only like in small doses. Either that or this sounds more restrained. I do love those little arpeggiated trills that him and HudMo do all the time..
And it's only a b-side (well, double AA side).
Pre-ordered mine already https://bleep.com/release/42235-rustie-triadzz-slasherr
yeah, dunno why i listened to this, but it reminded me how terrible rustie is.
This is his more experimental, noise arty guardian arts section stuff. He's got a new Surgeon record out later this year too. Which is great, because the last one was a few years ago now.
From late last year is some disturbing sci-fi dystopia business. Love it.
RAW reminds me of DJ Zinc in his breakbeat garage days but a bit more spaced out and rude.

Last one should be in the grime thread too really, but you know grime is dance music too and its too good to pass up for people not looking at grime.
and I would just like to take this opportunity to say that I love the Commotion EP.
keysound are on top form right now. very excited for everything else they've got up their sleeveymcsleevingtonz
Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself
'The Shit Baby' and 'Ready My Black Asz' are already pencilled in as my highlights
Kyle Hall has a debut album on the way, hyped for that.
Its called, The Boat Party on his label Wild Oats.
More real nice deep as all hell NYC house music. There has been so much of it released this year so far its prob gonna be my next mix even though I wanted to do a grimy synth one, but all the music thats really exciting me out of that aint hit wax yet and I don't have any digi means of mixing.
Forthcoming on Sonic Router Records.
Sample track on his soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/gerryread/you-dont-like-it
Lots of fun, really wonky sounding.
Vinyl only Livity Sound 12?.
a Pev – Aztec Chant
b Pev – Livity
Love Signal Life, this fits in pretty nice, love the brooding darkness of it. Teeth remix takes it to the dance floor a little more too.
Still not that sold on any French Fries productions other than his fun bootlegs and DJ sets. But yeah he's got one on there too.
I've started a new tapes series as a sort of Blowing Up The Workshop x Opal Tapes collaboration with Stephen- splitting up the two sides of a tape between two artists to kind of open up some kind of conversation between the work.
The first two volumes are out now. The first is split between Prostitutes and Basic House, and the second between Hobo Cubes and a duo called Rolling Acres. There's quite an interesting disparity between the two volumes; the former noisey/dark/dry/techno/bone-rattling in comparison to the more playful and airier elements of the latter. There's samples and stuff for both on my site:
Gonna have to get on that next week and check it all out. Big up wit hthe collab its a good look.

is it only on vinyl or something?
A lot of the tracks are coming out on single sampler 12"s too.
This is their label shop with it all: http://www.surus.co.uk/Nonplus-Records/
I only really want BRTHDJTT and Quivver from the whole comp. Kinda want Kassem Mosse too but I aint as fussed about those. Will prob break and get the boxset instead tho to see if it grows on me.
I'd not checked the indervidual tracklists BRTHDJTT doesnt seem to be on the digi or CD. lol feel sorry the CD and digi get scuba and vinyl gets prob the banger of the year so far haha.
The Four Tet track is the standout for me. Not usually big on Four Tet either, but this has an awesome deep house vibe that really works.
Has a little more whoomp than his normal stuff.
That is really really annoying.
its too big to not be really. I'm off the for the vinyl boxset so I don't have to listen to Scuba.
I aint too fussed I just wont buy to many beers for some weeks haha
Joy O doesn't seem to do many digi releases anymore so maybe it aint happening. Shame really it'll just get ripped from the vinyl and knicked by half the DJing world letalone the mear mortal listeners.
And 'might' be released on a 12" 'in a few months'.
Seems odd to leave the best biggest track they've had as a label in years off the comp like that bar the mega expensive boxset. I wouldn't have bought this comp if it wasn't for this track.
Clearly knowing that most people were looking forward to the comp due to this track, it's almost like some sort of internal backlash, like they didn't want all the attention and popularity. Wouldn't have been hard for them to just announce this beforehand either rather than have everyone speculate and be disappointed.
Was kinda suprised that even the digi download with the boxset doesn't have BRTHDJTT! on it either when I went to DL it the other day and it also means that now I have another Scuba track on my PC that wasn't needed as they added all the tracks not on the vinyl to the download but still left off BRTHDJTT! haha. Joy Orbison musta goit mad pissed off from gettin Hyph Mngo attention some years ago that now he wants everything to be more lowkey somehow, which is kinda hard when you made another big room banger. Dunno why he doesn't embrace it and give more people the chance to enjoy it. I did hear talk that it wasn't on the comp cos of samples or whatever not being cleared so keeping it vinly only and smaller scale wont get them in trouble like a full on big selling digi release might. So who knows could be bollocks.

maybe indie kids will like it and pick it up then too.
"There's a melancholy pop pulsing at the heart of these tracks, coloured by a love of electronic mutations from UKG and Hardcore rave to House and Techno, most evident in the unusual recording process undertaken while constructing the EP."

Real nice playful lowkey take on minimal. Wasn't sure at first but its got a wicked searching on the downlow throwback to peak era minimal and villalobos or something thats pretty refreshing, light and fun while still being real deep and hypnotic.
Bangin' noisy, inventive underwater NYC techno. Wicked label.
Real nice dark bristol house/techno dark bassy hybrid stuff. I kinda thought the Rhythmic Theory 12" on BRSTL and their own self tetiled label kinda sucked hard and was really boring generic dub techno fodder but this is a big step up.

might be my favourite track from elgatz yet. yes, even more than 'zone' :O
Zacarocha is a Portuguese producer who just released his debut EP on Origami Sound.
Not sure about it, sounds a bit like... Diplo? Well it does for the most part, the other bits that don't sound like Diplo seem to have been tacked on. Not his best.
I don't mind it, but it's a bit underwhelming after Slasherr - should have released them in the opposite order
Promo mix for his album coming on Planet Mu this year.
Sounding real nice.
I think its in this mix somewhere and the last bok bok mix up thread somewhere.
Which sounds typically big.
But they ALSO have this interesting little EP coming out on some Brooklyn house label which sounds LOVELY:
Quite a departure for them, but sounds great. These guys are fucking ace basically.
Which isn't much of a problem since they release so much. Not keen on the Tectonic release. Mister Saturday Night are nice, Oxfore Brown by Archie Pelago and that first Anthony Naples 12" was wicked. This is alright too, not blown away by it. Kinda like the third one. Liked the odd track on the 50 Weapons 12" that came out this year. I dunno something about them that doesnt sound right to me a lot of the time. They aint quite there yet, it can all be a bit messy rather than experimental which I think is what they're going for.
New album on Ninja Tune w/ Erikah Badu, Grey Reverend,.. Sounds great.
but it feels like it would be better if it was just Kowton
Very good track.

Karenn remix on the flip:
Although it's kinda pointless as nothing can touch that original.
someone seems to have uploaded it in full to youtube
this is one of the most wonderful things i have ever heard
Shame it never came out really, it aint that diffrent to the original its more like a subtle slightly warmer funky laid back cover or something. The original by Peverelist still sounds like nothing else. Pretty much all Pev sounds like nothing else to be fair. But yeah this is one of the best Harmonimixes.

KICK DOWN YA DOOR BANG BANG
Miles (Demdike Stare) - Faint Hearted
Potential for album of the year judging from the clips. He's one of the founders of the sound alongside DJ Rashad, I think he came before Rashad even. He's just insane.
He's got a 12" coming out on White Material, which is a label turning a few heads at the minute- just picked up distribution from Honest Jons. He put together a gorgeous little mix all of his own material, nice soft deep house vibes:
His harddrive broke whilst it was coming together so this is the last instance of the material too (hence it being 192, downloaded from a soundcloud link)
Pretty into this, 'Spectral Nightdrive' is like some glitched-out breakbeat techno formed from clipping and skips.
massively enjoying lumigraph's 'nautically inclined' on opal tapes. pretty much what you'd expect from this label - mangled, industrial-tinged house/techno, great stuff though. wavewatcher is a banger.
but i actually quite like this. albeit mostly for the bits that remind me of being 8 years old and busting mad groovez to early prodigy
excellent - http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=358
I'm in two minds about this kinda half stepping electro d'n'b stuff from people like Om Unit who has got really bad in recent years the footwork juke stuff just didn't work really and the newer half stepping stuff is just a bit all over the place and dull... dBridge and that Autonomic sound from a while back was better but fizzled out. Most of it is so tedius but I kinda like this one on Hotline.
New noiseier shoegazy dub effort from King Midas Sound. Sounds pretty wicked. Kinda like the direction its goign in with this lot.
Hyped for this, he was so good back in 09-11. The album didn't live up to that potential for me so hyped to get these on the go since they're from that time.
I'd grab it before the links die off if I was you.
Official vid by Ashes57 who is just dope in general.
Randomer can be hit'n'miss but I dig these. There is nice ravey, fun, really heavy vibe going thru a lot of stuff at the moment which is a welcome return. Stuff from Tessela hits that spot n'all. Hackney Parrot and that remix of Alex Coulton just bang even if they are a bit derivitive of rave, jungle and whatever troups.
Unknown to the Unknown are releasing loads of great stupid fun stuff at the moment too, like that DJ Narrows track someone posted earlier
are ace at that wish they did more wax but they're easily one of the most fun labels about.
This is some good shit.

Nice teaser for the forthcoming album on Idle Hands. Its a wicked sunny raw fun grooving electro jam, doesn't sound like much else they've done really but suits them to a tea.
'Record Store Day can eat a dick. All these bullshit labels clogging the plants up slowing things for those who do it all year round. End it!'
Good point really innit.
what are the record stores supposed to do, cancel it? it's not about the labels so much as it's about record stores.
cos he cant get his scheduled shit out I can see how that would be annoying when he's on such a roll with his 12"s selling out easily all the time. Plus as a customer its a bit annoying that a load of releases are getting held up from going to press because of a load of re-issues and all that espesh when things where getting going again for new releases after the usual winter slump.
Dunno if I'm that fussed about stores not had one near me for ages, and defo not a good one for about a decade. Vinyl sale will continue if shops in real life exist or not, it'll just go online. Plus the shops I would want to save are specialist anyway and prob will get like one record from the record store day schedule if that.
new steve summers sounds superb:
Hodge has been making a real step up of late and Pev is Pev. This is well nice, pure vibes.
Nice raw bassy rolling funky breaky industrial wearhouse stripped back techno from Shefield.
Breakbeat funky bass hybrid. Kinda got that raw jungle breakbeat hosue vibe with a uk funky kinda bassline rollign with it. Not far off soemone like Altered Natives. I like it when breaks come into house and it doesn't sound to much like nu-skool breaks like the latest Swamp 81 stuff or Paleman or whatever they're all a bit boring. This is nice and leary though.
will cease trading at the end of the year, as i'm sure many of you found out over the weekend via donga's post on fb etc. as a sort of tribute to one of my favourite imprints in recent years i put together a youtube playlist of what i reckon were their best bits. if you never followed this label i really recommend dipping into this; donga had such an ear for wicked artists that were often - and in some cases sadly still are - overlooked.
Liked a lot of the early stuff.
Deadboy: Brock Lee Riddim.
Deadboy: U Cheated.
CRST: Need You.
Kidkut: Get Sum.
Outboxx: Blueberry Lemon.
Archie Pelago: Subway Gothic.
They where always one of those labels that had really good artsist but never really got their best tracks a lot of the time and spread themselves kinda thin as well. They looked to be on the up after a few years of less quality stuff though with stuff like Archie Pelago so its a bummer in that respect.
Soul Motive went this year too, they where a quality little label that launched some quality people like Well Rounded did. people like Joker, TRG, Julio Bashmore, Hyetal, Eleven Tigers all getting really early releases with them.
Holographic Prose is nice but Pressure is the one for me.
Hackman - Blacksnake:
taken from the 'Yugen' EP.
it makes my brain itch when they kick in though.
I'm always suprised how much the first Koreless 12" goes for its like...
Last sold on Feb 21, 2013
Didn't know many people liked them, you never hear them played in sets.
Great track though to be fair.
Came at a time when that cut up vocal thing was really starting to hurt my brain but still this track sounded good. Would of really killed if it existed in 09 same with this new one really. Dunno somat kinda dated about Koreless now. It's cool they stuck to their guns tho and kept on with the cut up vocals cos Deadboy has tryed to branch out and its kinda shit.
I really can't get on with that new Deadboy release.
This might be the ultimate sell out of 12"s quicker than Joy Orbison combination. All the Mala heads out there buy his shit in seconds anyway and well its James Blake.
and we're done until he does another cracker.
Finally. that track is TO FUCKING BIG.
Pre-ordered it weeks ago now! Itching to play it.

Floating Points - Mytle Avenue
Arp.101 – Flush
Floating Points – Marylin
Mizz Beats – Scientific Brainpriest
Its rare you get that much raw soulful warm sounding dance music.
Funkineven & Fatima 'Phone Line'
...on it and it's still ace, madness.
Fair play to them. Eliza Doolittle is a properly bizarre choice of vocalist but the chorus is great. Plus I'm a sucker for 2step.
really boring, imo. not even 'just good pop music'.
Joy O has released his other massive bootleg from last summer as a free download haha.
Out now on [Nakedlunch], think I posted about it way up the page but yeah its out now! Really dig it.
He's got an album out, I've not had chance to grab it yet but what I have heard is well nice. Kinda like an organic sounding Burial ir a trip-hop UK kinda version of something like Sepalcure. If you've heard the guys mixes you'll know how perfect he's suited to the album format, his mixes are like lost soundtracks to films.
SR review: http://www.sonicrouter.com/2013/04/recommended-djrum-seven-lies-2nd-drop/
including the cover.
Pretty sure there is a Richard Skelton sample at the end of that track I linked. But yeah this is like some kinda up to date UK pirtate radio version of Endtroducing era DJ Shadow.
New 12" from MMM and its as fun as ever. MMM are too good.
Preview of a track from the next Sonic Router release.
33 new tracks:
Soliloquy sounds bloody lovely, and this i-D catwalk mix sounds moody as fuck:
So yeah, colour me excited.
<insert response about how he probably stole all the material from other artists>
with bare new zomby tunes in is absolutely fucking wicked
Although for a BONUS VIDEO here's Zomby modelling a load of c.e stuff. My brother loves this shit.
(Click on video)
Plus in that vid he looks like the teenage fashion savy son of Kryten from Red Dwarf after his genes got spliced with The Cat.
i didn't read YOUR description fully. thought you were linking to soliloquy, which is SLAMMIN
"It was originally called 'Can of Juice' as I sampled opening a can of Irn Bru, pouring it in a glass of ice, and hitting the glass with a fork."
yeah you can hear the pouring, fizz and ice. Other side Xingfu Lu is proper good: https://soundcloud.com/hyperdub/kode9-xingfu-lu
but i've been absolutely hooked on this today:
can't even decide if its actually that good but im totally addicted. infectious stuff.
It may well be like now/this weekend. Anyone off?
Yeah HudMo does a fun bootleg did you hear his Ooops remix from 2008?
Festival is: 26-28 April 2013 @ Trevelgue Holiday Park, Porth, Newquay, Cornwall.
but not completely sure.
haven't heard either of your links, i'll check em out for sure. cheers
His track came out in 2011 and it was knocking about for a while before that in his sets. He's got a close connection with the LuckyMe Glasgow peeps who are also good peeps with the Numbers lot, also from Glasgow, who are putting together this festival. This fest only came about this year, well its a re-up of an old fest a decade ago people like Aphex Twin and the Warp lot use to play at... But they more than likley named the whole fest after the track cos it rocks.
good stuff, i'd just assumed it was new cos it was put in the promo stuff i saw. if i didnt have final year of uni stuff going on i would have been very very tempted to go.
i really love hudson but only really have the studio stuff and more recent mixes that have surfaced in the last couple of years. any older stuff you can point me in the direction of?
They wacked it up for download cos its old plus they prob couldn't get away with making it a 12" again since HudMo is now working with Kanye and all that, he's a bit more high profile now so bootlegs have to be extra sly or free haha.
He's not got a lot out really for someone doing so well, but he has been about for ages so if you've got this: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Hudson+Mohawke the Valentines Day mixes and TNGHT you're good.
LuckyMe mixes are the ones if you want more on that tip really: http://thisisluckyme.com/category/mixtapes/
got most of it by the looks of things, i'll certainly go through the luckyme mixes though.
i enjoyed this mix too. doesn't really fit in this thread, but whatevs:
thats the kind of stuff that creeps into the dance mongrel threads on the sly, more than welocome. I'm always on about Ekoplekz who has had a EP on the label. He use to be Gutterbreakz a true blog legend back in the day: http://gutterbreakz.blogspot.co.uk/
they certainly are. love ekoplekz!
that was by far and away my favourite thing he's ever done
liking the previews of the forthcoming huerco s. nice to see future times back in action.
Pretty great. Probably the best thing I've heard by him. Very Jam City which is a good thing of course.
I think the thing about Jam City is that he's a well competent producer and good DJ but simply not that original. Ballad 4D is huge though.
Easily. It does kidna sound like Jam City but then Night Slugs defo have a sound going on and this kinda sounds like a stripped back Bok Bok or Girl Unit or a less house MikeQ or whatever rather than a saight up Jam City rip, sounds like Night Slugs.
that old real shit >>> http://soundcloud.com/the-trilogy-tapes/tuff-sherm-burglar-loops
John Talabot, Andres, Pinch and Kowton or Blawan, Pariah and Beneath.
beneath is fucking phenomenal
Pinch and Kowton would be killer though.
Blawan and Pariah bring the pyrotechnics live so probably them, Beneath's productions are ridiculous too.

I mean that. Absolutely gorgeous to start with. Pure machine love.
Love the locked groove of the first ten tracks. The Mark Ernestus track is a bit of a clunker but other than that it's faultless.
Album coming on Local Action in the near future. Can't beat a bit of footwork.
through the post today from Wild Oats, can't wait to give it a spin later
also picked up Da Sampla - West Side Sessions (Kyle Hall + Shake)
this tune (and video) are brilliant
and there's an unmarked red 7" as well which has been thrown in for free
its meant to be in there. Kyle Halls 808 dub is a beast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89hU0OKLL84 I love Anthony 'Shake' Shakir he's a legend, this 12"/7" is the only stuff I've got from this alias though. Have you heard the comp from a few years ago call Frictonalisim? Its ace. I still need to get the KMFH album, let us know how it sounds.
I should get round to buying it really but Frictionalism is on spotify so I've given it a few listens on there, yeah it's great, so much good stuff.
I'll let you know how the album is
These look ace.
Clouds & Left Leberra – Dark Days
Inner – Distant Ship

Clouds – Dark Prescription
Actress – Raven
Clouds – Google Earth
The-Drum – Gon
Absnt – Silent Kill
Pretty sure we've been after this lot since about 09 to do a mix for us.
I've been waiting two years for that. Stayed there until the very end, first time i've done that in ages. Shackleton honestly mind blowing live, Pev brought some really heavy stuff to start out with and Pinch's first half hour was honestly the best dj set I can remember seeing. Recognised less than 50% of what he was playing, anyone got a recent mix or track list from him? Wanna know what he was smashing my skull in with last night. Appleblim til dawn was just the perfect revival set as well. Awesome all round, best night in a club I've had in ages.
so does Pev too really. But yeah it may have been new stuff thats gonna be on his new label Cold. He did a mix to set the tone of the label: http://coldrecordings.com/mixes/pinch-cold-mix/ There isn't a tracklist though. Shackleton live is so good no one does it like him.
Cheers for the link will listen now. Still reeling a bit.
Shackelton and Villalobos are up there as people that no one else can really sound like. I'd put Peverelist in that catagory too no one sounds like him either.
Not seen Pinch for a while but I think he's playing a lot of Beneath, Dark Sky, Elmono and I think he's getting more into producing himself again so prob a load of that. Dunno if I'm into the Cold stuff yet, its kinda like a lot of the new Swamp 81 stuff from like Paleman and the like, its just really dark bassy tech house essentialy. Some cool stuff but yeah I dunno yet really, will see how it goes.
is generaly a bit tougher and more techno and I'm more into that than the Swamp81/School stuff which is more housy. I dunno.
"Note to self.. Not every tune you make has to be dark dark dark as fuck."
Just hard heavy and ponderous sounding, so I reckon it could be that Cold stuff. He ended up playing what sounded like loads of trap and grime mixed into UKG and funky. amazing how trap just sounds exactly like grime instrumentals at times.
May have been grime guys making trap style beats there are few around now Darq E Freaker does it quiet a bit and yeah Decibel is a UK guy making trap-esq stuff at times. So they have that grimy dubstep edge to them.
Has a new kinda label for his own bits kinda like Pearson Sound does the odd 12" on his own. Its called Hadal first 12" here: http://www.factmag.com/2013/05/08/hessle-audios-pangaea-announces-new-label-hadal-and-single-series-stream-samples-of-the-first-12-inside/
Razz is a right laugh sounds like Pangaea doing a techy version of 90s hardcore or something. Rest are nice and tracky, not heard much on that tip from him.
Is well nice maybe my favourite track they've done and it kinda sounds like a juke version of the IT Crown theme, who'd of thought...
Can only find a clip of it there for now.
The title track is the first thing on MSN that hasn't really done it for me, but I can't get enough of Rare Bloom on the b-side.
My last few mixes have been pretty dark and either fucked up and noisy or deep as owt. This one mind... Is stricktly bangers. Some kinda tropical grime house madness. Just a fun one that bangs hard.

Illuminations (Discodeine Remix)
'Baby' from the EP of the same name...
Album, 'Beyond', just announced...
Slackk's response on Twitter:
lol. He has a point about that 'Baby' track though.
The LP sounded v solid on first listen too.
Sounds better than the first I reckon. Excellent. Definitely owes a lot to Actress but that is in no way a bad thing.
earlier this year was fucking superb. first time playing out too i think
aka the kind of collab dreamzzz r made of - http://soundcloud.com/oiiemma/emma-and-sully-nostrum-dusk
I listened to Blawan's last Boiler Room set and the Karenn set from last year over and over. This is of similar quality. Love this.
This is like a grimey Claptrap. Cue lots of confused Au Seve fans (who probably haven't even worked out this isn't a Bashmore track).
that ben ufo has been playing a lot recently is very, very good
Really like it, the last two EPs on Hyperdub have been ace. Kinda suprised this new one is on Hyperdub tho its got a really Berlin techno kind of vibe to it and I never think techno when I think Hyperdub.
Featuring Well Rounded and Idle Hands, etc.
Point Noire has soem hella nice reverb going on. Cant beat a bit of Livity Sound backwards.
Right off the back of a killer tropical sounding party bass techno thing from MMM Fiedel comes out on his own again with another. Love it.
Its not often I really like a vocal house track, but this is one of them. Prob the best since Omar-S: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV5atykAV9U not sure I remember the last before that.
has some wicked imp batch-esque grime bits in the second half that i'll be putting out on a pay what you want flex over the summer sometime

PM me if you're keen.
(Not even sure if I can sell it tbh but it's worth a shot, if it doesn't go I'll go on my lonesome).
Kode9 - Uh/OK
Killer odd ball Kode9 style garage/trap/funky things that really shouldn't work but somehow do.
Terror Danjah & Champion - Sons Of Anarchy EP
Banging grime meets bassline meets funky EP on Hyperdub. Just raw good times innit. Nice bleepy and skipy, keeps it moving.
Pangaea - Viaduct
Just started a little label of his own for the odd 12" and this is well nice kinda picks up where his last mini album EP left off has some kinda twisted garagey/house thing that bangs and a hardcore thing.
Kingdom - Vertical XL
He's kinda underated really, love a load of his stuff. Killer big open spaced raw as hell bumping dark and vibey I guess its house but yeah odd house. Has a nice vocal track on it and a load of grimy house bangers.
Fiedel - Trinidad
Big bassy swung tropical bangin techno, its nice big and fun.
DJ Sotofett presents Fran Benitez - Lagrimas Negras
Really nice and warm twisted deep house stuff.

Sounds pretty nice anyway.
because he's just street tuff.
max d is the man
Bloc mk. II?
The line up for this had some really great additions but fuck going to a two night festival at Brixton Academy of all places; I'm not particularly surprised ticket sales were low.
Gonna keep an eye on Hemsworth's twitter to see if he plays anywhere else last minute whilst he's here this weekend though.
This is a more admirable flop though. Exactly what Bloc/any decent promoter SHOULD do. Cut your losses and refund the tickets. Same goes for Bangface cancelling this year - they knew the festival would be shit, and they're not simply going ahead and fucking off their customers. Nuff respect.
Also keeping an eye out for a sneaky Hemsworth gig. Let me know if you hear anything.
he chats a lot about yugen, which is easily one of my favourite eps of this year so far
massively into the new golden teacher track. great looking sleeve too. optimo...
Has the piano break/porn sample from Demolition Man to start with but then it turns into something else completely.
Then he mixes into something else with that cheeky dark techno bass on it which I aint sure what it is. Prob more Kevin McPhee.
that vocal is so so horrible
I love it.
doesn't quite work for me. All the other Sophie releases have been far worse though so its a step in the right direction for me and at least its a bit diffrent sounding. The b-side is like a really out of tune Night Slugs/Butterz release: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2gMXJEqt3c I can't tell if I like ti or not yet. Its either fucking awful or really good no real inbetween.
depending on the weather its either fucking awful and annoying or really fun and I'm really good with that.
Best bit of rootsy dubstep I've heard in ages.
Really really looking forward to the new Author album (Jack Sparrow & Ruckspin), on a similar tip:
even when this kind of dubstep was about more they didn't get enough props and they're even more out on a limb now.
If only it wasn't in Tuffnel chuffing Park I might've gone on Saturday. As it is I'll be at Night Slugs instead.
Two tracks in and it sounds *very* indebted to Kuedo... but also flipping brilliant.
there is an album on Houndstooth by the guy how use to go by King Canibal that is very Kuedo too. Can't remember the name of it. Been kinda disapointed with Houndstooth bar the Call Super release so far now I think about it.
but it seems alright when it's his label boss doing it. A bit like the last L-Vis single ripping on JC.
Severant seemed almost completely unprecedented (at least to me) when it dropped, and he's released some great mixes since, so not surprised his influence is being felt.
there where juke tracks that had a simular feel around and rap does too as well as soundtrack stuff but he kind of found a new kind of middle point between all that that sounded so good and unique that its bound to sporn a load of people trying that kind of thing espesh Planet Mu people.
Here it is...
House of Black Lanterns - Truth & Loss
I mean it sounds good enough, King Canibal has always been ace at sound design and all that, he always sounds like he'd make a killer soundtrack. But I dunno if I need to hear it when I could just wack on Kuedo. There isn't anything new there.
Good to see it happens in the music industry too
aka Matthew Young, is a veteran of the diverse Brooklyn music scene . As part of the Percussion Lab family and m3rck (as Landau), Seafloor’s debut release on Infinite Machine comes with expected submerged savvy.
Has a new 12" out on Livity Sound, you can't really go wrong with Livity Sound.
Can stream it here: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums/Desto.html
I'm liking it, more so than With Love.
Love his label Signal Life with Teeth. Not had chance to give the album a go yet I'll spin it today. Not given Zomby's a fair spin yet either.
Interview here: http://thequietus.com/articles/12596-sonic-router-028-desto-interview
Really solid insturmental hip-hop beat tape kind of album. Kind of sounds like a mix between Kuedo and Clams Casino but somehow more rap than those two. Its got a killer late night spaced out meloncholie vieb to it thats real bitter sweet.
Really nice juke album from Lil Jabba. Its more outthere or kind of layered and obscure than the more dance stuff from people like Rashad or Spinn etc. But it still kicks rather than falling a lo-fi hole or anything like that. Its quality.
Real nice EP, its on a late night textured tip. Its got a gritty but bright thing going for it somehow like a lot of the other SR releases. Real good listen.
Might be one of the albums of the year I've heard. Damn.
Rogue's Foam is always on point.
Get vibes of the maximalist approaches of Night Slugs and Rustie alongside some of the lo-fi touchstones.
Long Live The Jazz. It actually could be a really whacked out jazz record.
Shame really cos I enjoyed The Mirror song, mostly due to Kowton's input though in retrospect.
but at least au seve was an anthem.
even he couldn't fuck up kowton's hot streak though <3
Haha I guess when you make very simple house tunes there's a fine line between genius and... whatever this shit is.
Euro Crack is pretty good:
this is pretty popular in Finland right now, which is great and a bit crazy. the words are pretty great, of course it's just nonsense to you...
I was looking forward to this combo hooking up, but fuck me its bad. Danny sounds awful and The Bug aint on point either. What happened there, madness. Maybe they kept the good stuff for the album or something.
This isn't great though. I liked the King Midas Sound tracks he released earlier this year a lot, Aroo especially. Feel like maybe that's a project which he's a bit more invested in these days, but who knows. It feels a bit closer to his sensibilities and tastes...
Still love Kevin though, he can do no wrong in mine eyes.
Too many people are hooking up with Danny Brown these days just cos he's a bit 'whacky', he's spreading himself a bit too thin. The Bug needs to stick to what makes The Bug great, which to be honest is largely patois, dubby vocalists.
She's great on those ambient threatening tracks when she sugars up the murk, but when Kevin gets all heavy I just want him to call Flowdan, Rider Shafique and Warrior Queen and let them go crazy.
But yeah, Kevin should've got someone dark like A$AP Ferg or Deniro Farrar if he wanted to go for someone new and American.
He's got that prophet of doom last sane man in a crazy world thing going on. Weren't they supposed to be working together?
KMS is a different bag, it's where KM gets to out his love of drone and doom and all the slow soulful stuff that dub warriors aren't supposed to touch.
It's super playful and fun but it sounds a lot more advanced than the debut. She has gone a bit maxi eighties, but who cares.
Saw her dj on saturday sandwiched between Kahn and Mala and I have never seen a worse crowd reaction. Thought her set was amazing too, she's one of the most technical djs I've seen in ages...
that track Umoja at the end is so so good. Kahn told me on saturday that all the reviews have got it massively wrong as to who's behind which track. Didn't say if we'd ever find out though...
Anyone like the Holden record too? Pleasantly surprised, his stuff leaves me a bit cold normally but I think this one is on the money, even if it's not really dance anymore.
Umoja is by Isan Sound who is also half of Zhou with Jabu. Album is ace. Still digging into it really, its just like getting inot one of their radio shows really but all produced by them.
by the looks of it, or people didn't read it. I usualy don't haha. But yeah people where making stabs in the dark about it, dunno why but three you go.
I don't think they've wanted to make a big deal out of it to showcase the group instead. They're all ace really so it works out well and no fucker can guess.
The album he did last year was staggeringly underrated, probably my favourite album of last year altogether. Not really the sort of thing that usually goes down well in these threads, analogue synth led melodic techno. Barely even danceable, but still really good.
I loved Ideas From the Pond, so beautiful.
Finally, someone else who actually listened to it! I thought I was the only one...
Probably yours now I think about it.
Well its some kind of tropical tribal party techno bomb innit. Nuff said.
the first thing I've really liked on Hotflush in ages, so good
Easy the best bit on Hotflush since Lando Kal the other year but that aint to hard. Woolford has been on a bit of a roll. This is easy his best since those cheeky first few Special Request 12"s. He's still all over the shop mind and hasn't done much of note since those and the remix on Local Action and his forthcoming bit on Houndstooth sounds like arse. This mind... is why I stick it out he's good when he's good.
he's done a remix of Hackney Parrot apparently though, can't wait to hear that
Note to all aspiring producers: Make a shit tune for Dirtybird, get Radio 1 play, instant gaudy jewelry will follow.

In a simular vain to my Grow Your Legs Last Mix, but way more house, way less dark and grimy. Its still intense and hot as hell for the most part, but with a blissed out deep house center and some kind of zero g electro disco freakout at the end. You know the usual shit. Enjoy.
A) Jeremih - F U All The Time (Kowton's Refix)
B) Kowton - And What (Kahn's Gyal Dem Edit)
Massive slab of industrialelectrodetroitacidtechno.
Sounds like it could all come crashing down at any second. Utterly thrilling.
Golden Pudel resident. Released on Actress' Werkdiscs.
Possible tune of the year.
Stream her new album on Keysound, its a beauty.
Will give it a spin this weekend. Cheers for the link.
Applying his usual sounds to something a little more 4x4... sounds lovely.
Have you heard the latest Eglo 12" its well nice.
Fatima - Circle
Really looking forward to her debut album.
That sounds great. Yeah, really got into Eglo through that comp. picked up the Wires 12" because it's so pretty. Even if it looks like the Cosmogramma album cover
Pev, Kowton and Asusu are releasing a self titled compilation of all the Livity Sound 12"s, so anyone that isn't a vinyl geek can have them too. For my money its prob some of the best techno around right now.

Hear a live set from them on Rinse here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo_FuKFlb-k They do a full on three man hardwear only live thing its pretty awsome if you haven't seen it.
Can't wit to read it
no news agents within about 40 miles seems to sell it so I've never really read it. I heard he was doing a bit on it though yeah, and them lot deserve wider coverage they're all ace.
It's well worth it, their electronic coverage goes from strength to strength. Joe Muggs' column alone is worth it
is a jam
This album on Dropping Gems is well nice.
Kind of moody minimal synth addled low key bedroom pop with a slight dark oddness about it. Real mellow and listenable without being to much on the coffee table side of things.
Has an album coming on Hyperdub soon produced by one of the Junior Boys Jeremy Greenspan that seems to be on a simular tip too. Really looking forward to that.
this is really nice!
Loads better than that shite version with Danny Brown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go6htRkZy5Q he sounds so wrong on it. I like Danny Brown too.
Is a load of fun, its like some kind of turbo midi shiny eski soca thing on UTTU.
Big fan of this, sounds more like the stuff he was doing before the album came out. Not really a deviation from his norm, but it doesn't matter because his norm is so fucking good.
Also I've been without home internet for a few months so if I've missed anything really, really good please tell me about it, ta.
See above. The Young Echo record is absolutely goddamned essential.
That synth line
Album anounced on Hyperdub for October. I was hoping this would happen.
01. Rashad feat. Spinn & Taso - Feelin

14. Rashad feat. Earl - I’m Too Hi
can't wait for this.
Fatima Al Qadiri, Nguzunguzu and J-CUSH team up with Tink for this killer track. Think its coming on Fade To Mind at some point. Awsome.
idk, doesn't matter.
Dunno I always stick Fade To Mind people in here, they've always been dance people to me.
new Rustie cut premiered last night. Pretty much a straight up Rustie trap banger. I like it more than Slasherr. Still fun to hear him do this
its pretty fun and way OTT.
Lines are blurred all over the shop but I'd put Circles by Fatima in here too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffqDebiYwXojust cos its on Eglo and I know them from Rinse Floating Points etc... But its pretty much a laid back R&B funk thing. Can't stop playing it, its too good.
The flip with the cover by the live ensemble is so amazing. Kicking myself for missing them earlier this year
But the Marian Rosenfeld/Warrior Queen record is otherworldly. Avant garde composer, with a little help from cellist Okkyung Lee, creates brutalised electronic drones and soundscapes over which warrior does her thang. It really shouldn't work but it does. Reminiscent of the stuff she did with Vex'd
'album is leaked.
...Mentioned in this month's (absolutely excellent) issue of Wire. DJ/Rupture & Muslimgauze esque outernationality based on arabesk pop music. I love this kind of stuff.
Is prob my pick from them. I don't seem to be playing much of the mega retro nasty techno stuff at the moment though. Got a bit sick of it. Might move back into some in the winter months.
Vereker, Summers, Beato all great releases.
I just ordered the Helena Hauff 12" on a similar tip, really excited about that. Quite tempted to shell out for the Black Sites and Concrete Fence 12"s on PAN too, I can stock them for winter when I want brutality.
Don't think I've heard the rest not really a fan of Summers, really like Beato though just haven't grabbed it yet. Beato has that raw machine funk thing going on that Funkineven and Kyle Hall have when they work togthere its wicked.
Like the Helena Hauff record, just don't think I'd DJ it much so haven't grabbed it.
Mega poppy, skippy garage meets french filter house thing from DJ Q. Its kinda fun i na sugary way. He's done a mad fun mega retro colab with DJ Haus from UTTU called Trumpet & Badman too: https://soundcloud.com/hothausrecs/trumpet-badman-bang-dis / https://soundcloud.com/hothausrecs/trumpet-badman-go-mastered / https://soundcloud.com/hothausrecs/trumpet-badman-go-mastered
Kyle Hall and Funkineven sounding a lot like early Zomby.
New bits from Joy Orbison and Will Bankhead's label Hinge Finger from Mix Mup: http://vimeo.com/62715363# that one is mega late night bleepy minimal melodic business, no idea what the rest is like.
DJ Spider & Marshallito – Deadly Structures EP
On TTT is one I'm more hyped for, I can't get enough from DJ Spider, think I've posted about him here before a load already this year. He makes some killer raw, slightly noisy, fucked up interesting, but still bumping slinky house/techno.
Its kinda just a slighly dubby version of the original but damn it works. Forthcoming on Houndstooth. Best Special Request since the first two 12"s and best Houndstooth since the Call Super EP by a long way on both counts, nice.
Dusk & Blackdown are playign a load of hardcore dark fucked up new junglist stuff at the moment.
He has just dropped some kind of mini 9 track 21min album on soundcloud for free DL that sounds like a funky as shit cover of Sonic tracks.
This is fucking amazing.
French label putting out lost techno tapes from the nineties. Some of it is really good, more towards the Regis/Surgeon axis than Laurent Garnier or whatever: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nAxGni7KY2U
Narco is such a gigantic tune; sounds like footwork and UK funky pirouetting in zero-g.
I'd kind of ignored them cos I thought there was a cheesey really wet indie band called the drum with whistling in a track that was really boring and thought it was them. But this lot have a -.
I defo get the zero-g thing but this aint even close to funky or footwork. Its got more in common with Visionist or something: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Itz9YsgT-j4 / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTc9GFlScKg that odd floaty spaced out grime thing. I dig what I've heard from The-Drum regardless of clasification though need to get on the album soon.
Just got an official vid. Her mixtape comes soon with production from a load of Night Slugs and Fade To Mind people, I'm hyped for it.
I wacked this in the grime thread too: https://soundcloud.com/bokbok/live-grime-set-with-kelela its a Bok Bok grime mix with live vocals by Kelela, madness.
Stream it there. Its a well nice listen, like some kind of modern synth boogie woozy pop R&B thing on Hyperdub.
3x12" LP of really nice deep raw and groovy techno, kinda in a Levon Vincent/Underground Quality kind of vain.
Not sure about this, hasn't got the instant appeal of pretty much everything else on Hinge Finger. I like the machine gun beats and Tina Turner sample, but could take or leave the gameboy synths.
Huerco S. Colonial Patterns is a fantastic albums. Nicely develops his sound from the more straight-forward eps into something a bit more out-there. Check out...
Picked Samuel Kerridge, some Hieroglyphic Being and some Theo yesterday.
Been blitzing the Hieroglyphic Being Acid Tapes CDs on soul jazz, along with theo's black jazz mix. So deep.
Listening to a lot of stuff from antinote, great French label.
Jessy Lanza album on Hyperdub, some sort of laid back bedroom synth pop thing its well nice.
Prince of Denmark 3x12" real deep rolling dubby raw house and techno in a big room kind of vain.
New Trilogy Tapes and Hinge Finger 12"s from DJ Spider & Marshallito, Mix Mup. Both really good and really odd twisted techno and house ideas.
Kassem Mosse / Heron / Juniper / Sul 12" which is pretty damn nice on Meandyou.
Livity Sound compilation which will be out soon I think, its all killer.
Altered Natives new 12" on Hoya Hoya which is some kind of ballroom, broken beat UK hybrid.
Slackks grime mixes, cos he's a badman: http://www.sonicrouter.com/2013/09/sr-mix-164-slackk-local-action/
Lots of Keysound stuff thats on its way. Waiting on stuff from Splurt Diablo, Spooky, Slackk, Jam City, DVA, Cooly G, to be released.
Really hyped for the Kelela mixtape going by these: https://soundcloud.com/fadetomind/kelela-keep-it-cool-prod-jam / https://soundcloud.com/fadetomind/enemy-prod-nguzunguzu / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I_2eYvrEJw
I really need to get the Traxman album TEKLIFE Vol. 3: The Architek because if any of the other Lit City release are to go by its got potential to be album of the year right until prob DJ Rashad drops his on Hyperdub later in the year.
Hopefully there'll be some left later this month when I can justify picking up more records. Can't wait for that Livity Sound compilation. Saw Slackk two weeks ago and he was awesome.
Is a combo to look out for. They have that killer loose but rude and rolling deep dark but kicking, tight as hell New York raw house/techno thing going on. Its kinda in a Levon Vincent, DJ Qu vain at times, maybe a Anthony Parasole kind of The Corner thing going on too. Its some of my favourite house/techno vibes at the moment its wicked. They're all kind of underated and bubbling under at the moment in some ways.
That Meandyou release is well nice, I really dig Juniper they're well worth checking out whenever a release pops up its thats nice and vibey warm deep house end of that spectrum I mentioned above more on a Underground Quality thing that a techno thing. So thats before you get more stuff from Kassem Mosse, damn.
I have all the Livity Sound 12"s so far there are only one or two more to come so I have the comp already pretty much and I'm still excited to just have it all again on CD thats how good it is haha.

looking forward to this.
Debut EP on his own little imprint is out now too: http://boomkat.com/vinyl/824379-delroy-edwards-untitled-ep its a nice raw kinda wild pitch thing.

could be one of my favourite albums of the year when its had more time to bed in.
the night slugs production works wonders. they all bring something to the table, and their sound is so singular that it's cohesive as a whole. like it could've been done by just one dude. plus i hadn't really given her enough credit as a vocalist before... some incredible Aaliyah-esque shit here.
pretty blown away.
does it live too: https://soundcloud.com/bokbok/live-grime-set-with-kelela
Its so post Timberland/Neptunes but not in a way we've heard before. They've taken the ideals of those sounds but used a whole new pallet of sounds and really made it their own, which a lot of people haven't quite managed. Only other people I've heard come close to that with full on vocals and everything is Terror Danjah quite a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZV4p-aPzp0
Jam City - Club Constructions (Vol.6) [Night Slugs]
DVA - Mad Hatter EP [Hyperdub]
Randomer - Bring/Curtains [Hemlock]
Bass Clef - Stenaline Metranil Solar Flare (Bass Clef & Peverelist Remixes) [Punch Drunk]
Niagara - Ouro Oeste [Principe]
Special Request - Soul Music [Houndstooth]
The Peverelist mix of that Bass Clef tune is second up. Rest of it's great too...
I have no idea what this is but I love it:
Shawn O'Sullivan doing what he does. This is steam piston powered industrial techno par excellence. Can't wait for mine to arrive.
Only streamed it once so far, really like it. Not sure its as good as Teklife Vol.1: Welcome To The Chi though. But not much is and I'm looking forward to digging into it more. Its been a good year for footwork albums RP Boo Legacy, Lil Jabba Scales and Traxman Teklife Vol.3: The Architek are quality alongside this and there really isn't that much between them even though they all come from diffrent angles.
Again, I've only had one listen, and I reckon it lives up to pretty lofty expectations, but it's not 'unquestionably the strongest footwork-related LP' in years, and I think saying that just deters casual fans from digging any deeper.
The favourites I've heard are:
DJ Rashad - Teklife Volume 1 - Welcome To The Chi
DJ Diamond - Flight Muzik
RP Boo ?– Legacy
Traxman ?– Da Mind Of Traxman
Traxman - Teklife Vol.3: The Architek
Lil Jabba - Scales
DJ Nate - Da Trak Genious
DJ Roc - The Crack Capone
Young Smoke - Space Zone
DJ Spinn - Teklife vol.2: What You Need
Double Cup will prob be up there around the top somewhere but I dunno where yet. They're all worth a dig.
Some interesting stuff here:
Break It Down: Mark Fisher on DJ Rashad’s Double Cup
Mark Fisher—the noted blogger known as K-Punk and the author of Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative?—triangulates the leading footwork producer’s new album via Burroughs, animated gifs, and G-funk.
Analemmic V01CES (Distracted from the Darkness)
Tristam Adams compares footwork to jungle.
Interviews with DJ Rashad: http://thequietus.com/articles/12158-dj-rashad-interview / http://www.dummymag.com/features/dj-rashad-interview
Still not sure how much I like Double Cup, its damn good but I tend to like the madder stuff more than the smooth stuff right now. You can't really argue he didn't pull off what he wanted to when you read this quote: 'The whole idea with ‘Double Cup’ for me was to show, instead of the hyper other shit that I normally do, something more smooth. Screwed up Rashad' yep he nailed it. Is it good yep very, do I like it as much as Teklife Vol.1 nope. I'd prob but it alongside Scales in that list above right now. They both do a smooth thing with footwork. Scales is way more soundtrack, horror film workout and Double Cup is some kind of g funk soul re-imagening. I think Traxman and RP Boo did all of that a little better than Rashad and Jabba did there, but you know it by much and all those albums are killer and some of the best stuff in all of music haha.
Not a huge fan of Double Cup but I think it's something which he needed to do, if that makes sense.
Its an album thats opening up to me the more I listen to it, after first being a bit disapointed it was more on a smooth tip than that hyperactive madness of Teklife Vol.1. But I've got a load of time for Rashad he's a beast so I'm gonna keep at it. I think I liked the otherworld madness of Vol.1 it really seemed to push things forward, because even though its still full of samples it also twists things so madly that it feels really new and energetic, like you know the touch stones and samples but they come from a diffrent dimention. Where as Double Cup gives me more of a nostalgic feeling. Its like listening to a load of my favourite things all at once. That deep house bassy thing, maybe something like Martyn's first album, in those chords... a new sort of g-funk synth workout like I dunno early Joker or Dam-Funk rather than Dre really... soul sample maddness like J Dilla or newer people like Flying Lotus... Trap from like Gucci Mane, Gunplay, King Louie or whatever. but all in a very DJ Rashad kind of way that still feels like nothing else but footwork. Like I don't want to go and listen to those influences when I hear this, it still feels like its own thing but I get a really familuar vibe that doesn't draw me in as much as some of the more outthere footwork stuff.
Can't remember if I posted this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPZuFTR09wg Teklife on the Boiler Room with dancers. They play a load of tracks from this album and they show them in a diffrent way that really works and helpped me open up to the album more.
Going to be half old, half new stuff apparently.
Don't know if you'd actually call this dance music. There are some beats in there but is probably more a noise record. Anyway sounds excellent (from the samples.)
Another album of his came out a few months ago too, its a good'un.
On Hessle Audio.
More Pearson Sound on the way too: https://soundcloud.com/hessleaudio/sets/hes026
They've kind of been on the down low this year with releases, only these two on the way and the Pev & Kowton collab. Can't really argue with the quality though.
Is real nice. Kinda like real life techno played way to loud on a massive broken soundsystem then broadcast over a radio. You'd think that would be a boring thing by now, but no this is well nice.
All the 12"s have been quality, I've been playing the first two that came out a few years ago now a lot, they're never that far away from my bag. These new ones are killers too.

I had not read anything about this record (thanks Jimi)... but otherwise there is no publication that does not want to write about the The Field - just to give an very popular example that falls in the same genre.
One of the great secrets that I would like to see revealed one day it will be to discover how an average producer who makes repetitive, boring and predictable beats that goes absolutely nowhere became the more respectable and beloved electronic musician of our times.
I only heard from him becuase he had a track I liked in a Levon Vincent mix on little white ear buds: http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/podcast/lwe-podcast-149-levon-vincent/ then did one himself a little later: http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/podcast/lwe-podcast-152-prince-of-denmark/ I've not heard or seen him mentioned anywhere else until I saw the record pop up on a record shop site with some clips. It really does deserve a listen, easily one of the best techno records of the year, I can only think of one more though and thats the Livity Sound comp which I love too. I spose there has been stuff from The Field, Four Tet and Pantha Du Prince this year I think but yeah they not on this guys level at the moment. Four Tet I only really like as a DJ, the music just doesn't sit with me well that often it just bores me a bit. The Field has been down hill since From Here We Go... and I couldn't get into that one much either bar the odd live set I heard from him from that time, which made it work a lot better somehow. Pantha Du Prince has gone into some kind of chimecore hell hole after This Bliss which is still one of my favourites. I like this more because even with it being deep, emotional, layered, beautiful and all that good stuff its still nice and functional in a really late night kind of way, like you could hear this in a Levon Vincent mix in a club and still dance. Yet still wack it on at home and get lost down a wormhole.
with a perfect tracklist. I like almost everything he does. As Boomkat said "he's making an indelible mark on the style with an almost avant-house streak of idiosyncracies like the spacious metallic reverbs coated of both cuts, and the tension of sensuous house warmth vying with industrialized EBM vibes for your attention". Wow - but it seems clear he's all that.
But he's one of those people for me who really clicks when he's DJing. He just seems to get what works and what doesn't in a way that few other people do. Michael Mayer and Ricardo Villalobos are the only ones that spring to mind that have that same sort of understanding.
So excited. It clashes with a Four Tet/Ben UFO alldayer though. decisions decisions.
I love his sets that I find online, which aint many but I'm yet to see him in a club when he hasn't bored me to death and I have no idea why. I love the records he plays but he never quite pulls it off when I've seen him live. I've heard a few other people say simular too. When other people play his records though, fuck me its something else. Odd.
it was incredible
In a year of loads of really good mixes this might be my favourite so far.
New tracks coming out on Pale Fire. More grime/techno bangers.
Fan of Helsinki Sunrise though
no one does it like him and they're fun as all hell to mix.
Call Super and Joe interview each other: http://www.factmag.com/2013/10/26/joe-versus-joe-hessle-audios-secret-weapon-chats-with-joe-call-super-seaton/
Can't go wrong with a bit of Joe and Call Super is the highlight of the Houndstooth roster for me. interesting interview too.
Big squelchy percussive house thing, love it.
More sub heavy business.
He runs Soundboy Chronicals, which has put otu some killer stuff. They chat about all the 130 stuff, he does a mix. Its all ahead of the Fabric night tonight which if I was a Londoner I'd be all over Butterz in room two, Keysound in room three.
Spacey Sun Ra techno
Site is in French but check out some of their mixes. Going to see them tonight for the first time, pretty excited
and looks great.
Robot Koch and director Lukas Feigelfeld have teamed up to create a special collaboration project...
I'm guessing not.
I'm gonna post Ghost Culture's 'Mouth' in here as it's absolutely phenomenal - pushes ALL my buttons - the video too
The start sounds very, very similar to Simian Mobile Disco - Sleep Deprivation
it's diamond stuff
the flip is great too
Anthony Naples - P O T [Proibito]
Every time I think I'm a bit bored of that dirty grungy bedroom house sound I get dragged back by a record I really like. This just works for me. Really liked his TTT 12" too. I think he's coming into his own a bit more now after that first hit and a few misses after.
NA - Xtreme Tremble [Fade To Mind]
Grimy banging stuff. You can't go far wrong with this label really, there is a nice Nuguzunuguzu release out on digital too.
East London Club Trax Vol.2
Something really odd and raw about these, the first one was wicked too, this has more of a grimy lean to it than a housy one like the first. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7Dz3PaifPo 3rd one is on the way on a 7", spot the sample lol: https://soundcloud.com/alex-deamonds/east-london-club-trax-volume-3 kinda fun.
Hodge, Pearson Sound all sound good too, I think I've posted about them already though. Guido's album is damn solid.
Some bits on the way...
Batu - Spooked / Clarity (Dismantled) [DnuoS YtiviL]
Real dark deconstructed dubby as all hell swung UK soundsystem techno from the Livity Sound sub label. On that Colder tip.
Joe - Punters Step Out / Club Scared [Hemlock]
WTF, Joe you madman, sounds like a magic roundabout theme party falling down some stairs into a UK Funky night on one side and Blawan being remixed on a pocket watch on the other. :') lol when the hook comes in.
Torus - Feeel [Sonic Router]
Twisted late night beats with a sweet lowkey vibe to them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9KH6UkNAho
Load of other bits look to be on the way Ipman on Colder, Logos has an album on Keysound and he's got a few 12"s on the way with Mumdance on Keysound and Tectonic. Actress has an album on the way in Jan, maybe his last if the letter is owt to go by. Objekt has 12" #3 on his own label on the way, always worth a look. Kinda curious about both Zed Bias and Akkord albums on Swamp 81 and Houndstooth even if I think they've both gone/are a bit boring a lot of the time.
Been waiting ages for that to get released.
I knew I'd heard it somewhere. Yeah the 12" is called P O T the tracks don't seem to have names on the record.
Slackk - Minor Triads
Extended version of his EP for UTTU. He's made a killer sino-grime album.
Logos - Cold Mission
This is out pretty soon, but you can stream it here for now anyway. Kinda sounds liek a darker version of what Jam City was doing on Classic Curves, with more of a grime and d'n'b influence.
Especially the track with Rabit
is just ace on the whole, hopefuly Rabit will do an album at some point too.
The whole Keysound thing at the moment is pretty insane. So many good producers. Keysound and Boxed are two of my favourite things at the moment so many people to look out for.
Murlo ft. Gemma Dunleavy – Jasmine
XTC – Funktions on the low (Murlo Refix)
Murlo – Icebound
Ice Prince ft. Burnaboy – Gimme Dat (Murlo Edit)
Tiana – Mad Ova Me
Murlo x Samrai x Fox – Downtown / Uptown
Murlo – Lover
Kevin Gates x Meleka – Go (Murlo Refix)
Murlo – Last Dance
Dubbel Dutch – Look Back VIP
Wiley – Ice Pole Remix
Murlo – Hydra
Spooky – Coolie Joyride (Murlo Remix)
Murlo – Velvet Wall
Mumdance - Springtime
Loads of fun.
Needs more love in her, forgot I hadn't posted it. Its a rough listen at times, its intense and cuts up some vocals in insane ways that I'd thought was a bit played out but nhow I can't stop plaing this 12".
really loving it.
Bok Bok RA Mix
Logos Fact Mix
Well worth a listen.
Gonna try and get that Bok Bok in later.
Know it's not so DiS, but Innervisions have been on a roll recently. Loved Agoria's Scala and obviously Gotham was huge.
IMO Strandbar and Lanzarote were both pretty average and got by on good will for Inspector Norse/Ragysh.
Back on form here though.
What was your favourite Jungle-ish track this year?
But I like the stuff that doesn't really know if it's jungle, footwork, dubstep or dnb
The new Shit & Shine EP on diagonal is the absolute tits. Rolling loping can-y house.
Their version of Theo Parrish's Synthetic Flemm is incredible but I can't find a youtube rip.
But with worse mixdowns.
Its on a late night soul thug soundsystem tip.
Joe - Punters Step Out / Club Scared [Hemlock]
Odd-ball only Joe could pull it off bangers.
Madteo - Insider [Morphine]
Really metalic and druggy sounding stuff from Madteo
Kowton - H-Street/Helsinki Sunrise [Pale Fire]
Grimy techno bangers. Helsinki Sunrise adds a nice bit of melody in there too.
Batu - Spooked/Clarity [Dnuos Ytivil]
Broken banging UK techno from Livity Sound offshoot.
Nguzunuguzu - Sky Cell [Fade To Mind]
Fucked up future grime soundscapes that bang.
Forever Forever/Prayer - Play Fight/The Two Havels [Cult Music]
Its probably Zomby.
Mongrel doesn't stop.
Not as much ubiquitous stuff like James Holden, Four Tet, John Hopkins, The Field, Pantha Du Prince, Darkside, Moderat, Daft Punk, Daniel Avery. So if you want to a bit dig deeper its not a bad way to go for albums.
I usualy find him really hit'n'miss, I mean when he hist he really hits like on recent stuff like Traffic, STFU, Black Mist and this sounds like a real gem along with those.
He's had some great stuff this year. Long Walk In Your Sun was properly great. Was Chemistry this year too? Also brilliant.
Commence your bitching.
DJ lists are always so odd espesh on RA. I haven't read anything on so many of those DJs on RA yet they always pop up on their lists. Its always some shitty prog house throwback, euro trance dude thats huge somewhere. Its a whole other world, its always the same in the mixmag poll too.
Best DJs you've seen this year? My dirty dozen, in order
Floating Points, Theo Parrish, Pinch, Function, Marcel Dettmann, Four Tet, Move D, Ron Morelli, Peverelist, Scratcha DVA, Iueke, Ben UFO
Had a mega shit year so haven't got out much. Listened to load of radio though so the usual people from that. Hessle, Night Slugs, Dusk & Blackdown, Slackk all had an awsome year. Sarah Farina did a killer guest mix on the Hyperdub show that was full of juke, R&B other stuff, it kinda blew me away.
Becuase I had fun doing it and dicking about with tracks even if no one heard it haha. I will be doing a 2013 only mix before the end of the year like I did last year for house shit for the fun of it.
Is the only DJ I've heard that plays the US juke stuff alongside the not-juke/juke UK-whatever stuff togthere with other party jams really well i na way that really works. She's awsome. Load of stuff here: https://soundcloud.com/sarahfarina
