Name your mum's favourite band/artist
Had to be done.
Mine listens to Duffy and Amy Winehouse on repeat at the moment. Loves Hot Chip too.

I gave your mum my LP the other day
Gave it a spin, she seemed to enjoy it etc
But yeah probably Simon & Garfunkel
She says Leonard Cohen and Janis Ian but she only has one album by each and the DiSer/man in me refuses to accept this
My Mum really loves the Eagles
Could be a lot worse.
The National
U2
Or British Sea Power. I hope it's British Sea Power.
The Smiths, T-Rex and The Doors
plus Amy Winehouse
Springsteen I think
Or maybe Bowie.
I bought her a book on Springsteen for Christmas and while I know she has loads of Springsteen albums, I hope she likes him enough to read a book about him. It's fucking massive.
I always remember my mum liking some really good stuff
like Suede and Pulp, and some really fucking awful stuff like Simply Red and Wet Wet Wet.
I think her favourites of all time are The Beatles & Queen, which is probably more predictable.
Take That
Gordon Lightfoot
Or Cat Stevens
my mum went through a weird phase not long ago
where she thought Cat Stevens (or Yusuf Islam, w/e) was talking to her online through accounts under other names.
:( (this was genuinely horrible. she seems a lot saner of late.)
hmmm, glad she's doing better.
This is one of the best songs ever
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-02VrChRqpc
genesis or supertramp or u2
not too sure what she would rank as top
I'm not sure, probably Queen or something
When mum used to get me to help her with her iPod playlists I used to throw in a bit of stuff she might not of heard but might like. This escalated to the point where I was putting on stuff like Throbbing Gristle.
Needless to say, she doesn't require my help anymore for some reason.
Beach Boys
I don't think my mum likes music
Simon & Garfunkel
Or Help!-era Beatles.
Johnny Cash
Dunno, but her favourite single is Black Sabbath's Paranoid.
Either The Cure or Lou Reed
Neil Diamond
Possibly the only gig she's ever been to as well.
Boney M
Kings of Leon
Tame Impala
rod stewart
i think she would leave my dad for him
The Jam
Roy Orbison and Simon & Garfunkel
Favourite song I think is Chris Isaak's Wicked Game.
David Bowie
my mum's fantastic though
The Beatles, Carole King, Phil Collins
The Beat
Abba
Porcupine Tree
black sabbath
James Brown or Al Green
Gotta love her
Bublé
Don't think she has a favourite band
but I know her favourite song is I'm Not In Love by 10CC. Sends "shivers down her spine" apparently. Her and my dad get a bit soppy whenever it comes on.
She prefers to listen to storytapes. Paul Temple's her favourite.
Simply Red
Which is bonkers as her record collection is Wishbone Ash, Focus, T-Rex, Suede, Ash...
All time = Johnny Cash
Current = Mumford & Sons
Aerosmith (My Mum is 68)
She loves loads.
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club
Elbow
Arrows Down
Daniel Land
As well as a lot of the classic Rock 'n' Roll, Ell Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and many more.
Muse, Nick Cave
Talking Heads, Pulp... Crap like Usher and 1D, too. Maybe she keeps the Cave as a front for when I'm over.
Either Fleetwood Mac, Elbow, or Bombay Bicycle Club
Fairly standard mum stuff really.
Idlewild, Aereogramme or Stone Roses
top mum
Johann Sebastian Bach
the locust
Bach probably.
She plays in an orchestra so she's much more into classical than anything else. She did buy me Endtroducing by DJ Shadow for my birthday once because she read a review and it sounded interesting. Top mum.
Boney M, Otis Redding
Alt-J, Wild Beasts, The Cribs and Biffy Clyro.
Bit of a mix.
Erasure
and Simple Minds
The Beatles
since she was a teenager. She's 61, so prime age for liking them.
Other than that she likes a bit of Idlewild, Ben Kweller, Stones, Roxy Music, Blondie, maybe a cheeky REM album here and there. Or just lots of Sixties stuff, you can't really go wrong with the music of your youth.
Right Said Fred
my mum's 80
so her liking lonnie donegan is probably about right.
Michael Buble, ABBA, Rod Stewart, Beyonce
R.E.M I think
maybe Nirvana
David Bowie, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure or Simply Red
Those were the only acts she used to play in the car. In recent times she's gotten into Cat Power, Feist and Emiliana Torrini.
Cat Stevens
which is cool because he has some proper classic material.
also The Kinks, Love, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel...60s stuff. and the odd bit of later stuff like Crowded House. and she said she liked some Mancunian stuff like New Order and Joy Division and The Smiths but idk if that was just a phase.
she likes some mumsy rubbish, too. Westlife and stuff. but she's professed at times to liking some good recent stuff.
like back when she was in The Christie, I put some Arcade Fire on a mix CD me and my sisters made and she thought it was great. also she commented positively on Grizzly Bear once.
Savage Garden
She's very keen on Queens of the Stone Age right now
right on!
Pretty cool:
Leonard Cohen, REM, The Verve, Elbow
Bright Eyes and The Antlers are always on in my mum's car.
Rolf Harris
and The Beautiful South
Beautiful South actually have some good songs, funny, arch, dark.
My dad has been trying to put hardcore folky stuff like Maddie Pryor, or mediaeval madrigals on and my Mum complains that it doesn't sound "rocking around the christmas tree" So he put on the Bad Shepherds.
good insight?
Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen
and more recently (because of me) The National.
i dunno
she mostly listens to country, adult contemporary, showtunes, and christian music.
if i had to guess i would probably say garth brooks or neil diamond. and the les miserables sountrack.
Simon & Garfunkel
I'm lucky in that respect cos I love em too. We're split on solo careers though: I'm in the Simon camp and can't do with the other one, she's the opposite.
Abba, Adam and the Ants, The Clash, Amy Winehouse
she also likes Enya!
the locust
Santana, Erykah Badu, Carole King, lots of 70's acid-jazz/soul stuff
Recently she's been enjoying Plan B and Maverick Sabre
