They were boss weren't they?
They don't get anywhere near enough love. I think a lot of people just assume they're some naff goth metal band a la Paradise Lost or My Dying Bride, but I really see them more as a perfect mixture of Black Sabbath and The Cure. Even a few flashes of Cocteau Twins, Ramones and The Cult in there too.
In fact, I'm gonna have to go and listen to October Rust RIGHT NOW. Cheers.
Also their last album was a straight up funeral doom album. They deserve lots more respect.
There were still a couple of punky tunes on Dead Again if I remember rightly
considered a watered down version of funeral doom, I knew they had it in them. I didn't think MDB or Paradise Lost were naff (infact I saw Type O with Paradise Lost at the Astoria before Pete died)
A lot of my pals enjoy them too. I think my main problem with MDB and PL is that they both conduct themselves with such po-faced earnestness that they almost border on self-parody. Then again, they are funeral doom bands. :D
Type O always had Pete's darkly bleak sense of humour to add a little light to the proceedings. Wasn't that the tour where Pete was completely blitzed the whole time?
I miss them and I miss the Astoria.
My favourite MDB album is the concept album everyone hates. I guess I'd be awarded indie points for that...
Yes they were.
sometimes forget what a great band they were
Seriously, they were so boss.
having a listne to the best of, enjoying it
Pete Steele never took himself seriously.
Fine Band. Much missed.
