Worst headliner ever
wasn't listed on the leeds site when I looked.
Would've been a great booking about 10 years ago.
pretty good show. not as Big Boi or Lil Wayne mind. some really TERRIBLE CGI backdrops of guns spinning as well.
Makes sense. I've always disliked his work, but at least back then he was a relevant artist who managed to bring something marginally fresh to the table, whereas nowadays he's nothing more than an embarassingly bloated self-parody.
he was meant to play 3rd/4th from top in 2000 but had some visa troubles and couldn't get into the country (as I remember it), so he came over instead in 2001 (with D12) and headlined. he was absolutely huge then, mind, inbetween Marshal Mathers and the Eminem Show and same year as that first D
apparently his last LP went double platinum here, which is over 600k copies.
first one I went to
It was quite a punchy one two that year with Marilyn Manson and then Eminem. 11 years down the line, somewhat less relevant but still very popular with the more mainstream Reading contingent.
would surely all sit comfortably below Eminem, since 2000.
Not everyones thing obviously, but I remember it being quite fun.
Until Brian May showed up
Nobody really saw it coming, still a massive artist, more than enough songs to pull it off. Could have been a lot worse.
He's got a lot more brilliant songs than you'd realise. Also is a rapper that appeals to RAWK KIDZ
I think it's a pretty great choice.
starship, the pogues, the mission, saxon, hawkwind, status quo, squeeze, thin lizzy, the michael scheneker group, budgie, gillan, girlschool, ufo, whitesnake, the scorpions, golden earring, wishbone ash, curved air, ten years after and the clyde valley stompers? I think not...
The Cramps, The Pogues, Saxon, Hawkwind, Thin Lizzy, MSG, UFO, Whitesnake, Scorpions and Wishbone Ash are all miles better than Eminem. And some of them aren't even THAT good.
BUT I STAND BY THE REST
What sort of wrongun would favour Eminem over The Cramps?
but seeing as they would have played some of their other songs then I would take Eminem every time.
The Cramps are solid.
SOLID YOU FOOL
The Cramps are shit they have one good song and that's it, let's all move on now.
but Eminem's body of work, up until his most recent couple of albums, is pretty solid. If his music isn't your thing then fine, but he is still a massively influential and popular artist, and I'm pretty sure Reading & Leeds aren't going after the Wishbone Ash crowd anymore.
Porno for Pyros? AMAZING
it's in there somewhere
Dre's producing it, so ...
His lyrics and flow are unbelievable. Just a shame about the fucking choruses.
I remember an admirably farfetched Quietus article, aligning some of his recent verses with Edgar Allan Poe, but never bit the bullet and followed up. Anything in particular worth a listen?
The verses on stuff like this are phenomenal - just ignore the singing...
Have got stacks of unreleased things from the past couple of years I found knocking around the interweb. Absolutely knocks spots off anything from the old days.
Some of the rhyme schemes in there are absurdly complex
All about the album tracks and unreleased stuff innit.
Everything since The Eminem Show's been shit obviously, but for at least three albums he managed to balance being massive commercially with genuinely being good and bringing something different to the table, which is a rare feat.
Some shite on that too though. The beginning of the end
It was alright. He kept saying "what's up Edinburger" though and he relied on his backing track a bit too much. This guy stole the show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YfTauNOBoo
but he really didn't make a good job of headlining Reading last time.
D12 (without Eminem for 15 mins)
Yeh, Eminem, amazing headliner!
So they can meet their idol....
I think festival republic just alienated a lot of their demographic with Eminem, unless they're trying to provoke another 50 Cent style piss bottling, which, when you try and put a has-been as a headliner, you're sort of asking for.
He headlined v last year and that sold out. He's definitely big enough to headline and the uniqueness of it will attract curious kids
