I just like to have a look and bitch about how it should have been us.
And how all the Scottish bands going are inevitably shite :)
Except Chvrches.
Chvrches = quality.
I would like to like them, but sadly not for me.
I should add I don't actually begrudge anyone anything really.
My god!
Just checked the list, you are correct, the bands from Scotland are embarrassing!
And I'm with you on Chvrches, saw them support Passion Pit last month - bland!
hey Paws are decent!
Some of the bands representing scotland the times i have been have been nothing less that....
fucking dreadful!
the first (and only) time i went to SXSW i got shuckled away from the sun into some kinda grim bar.
Two men stood on the stage, guitars ready " Hello Austin, we are The Proclaimers" I can't recall a time I have left a veune as quickly.
Jyrojets anyone?!
Me and my Brother are going.
Also going to Psych Fest in April too.
Would love to go again one day
Probably the most fun in the whole world*
*if you're there without some kind of "agenda"
there is NOTHING noteworthy about alien ant farm
wtf

top trolling
still find it funny that lost alone did a DiS (nottingham) night
and now they're touring with evanescance!
are they not the band who used to be Intentions of An Asteroid?
Not been since 2010 and would love to go back!
Just not sure i can justify the cost. Man its just so much fun!
Ah SXSW, it's just the best
Good to see Let's Buy Happiness are heading out this year, good band and good people, looking forward to hearing their album.
Hope to get out there again some day and enjoy a square wendys burger for breakfast, another 4am mad ihop dining experience, a Torchy's taco, as well as the Iron Works BBQ. Actually the food is just as good as the music.
DEATH METAL PIZZA <3
Is it really that good?
Love Austin, but I just get the idea it gets overrun with industry types and networking, and norms would get told they couldn't get in to anything good cos they weren't with the right publication.
Would be weary about slamming down £500 on a ticket.
I went in 2009 and paid nothing for tickets.
All the shows we went to in the day were free and had fee beer. The shows at night in spider house/under the bridge/ at picadilly records were all free too. I saw crystal stilts, the Vivian girls, chairlift, telepathe, pains of being pure at heart, glasvegas, the Mae shi, girls and loads more. Plus it was cheap too.
yeah, this
all of the daytime shows are free and some of the evening shows and everyone plays like ten times and the industry nobbers mostly congregate at the BUZZ WORTHY things
also the drinks aren't super pricey and grey goose seemed to be the the standard vodka at loads of bars. GREY GOOSE!!!!!!!!
ah
so you can just rock up to Austin and drink grey goose and watch bands?
yeah, definitely going to do this some time.
pretty much
the only thing you might struggle with is accommodation, as a lot of the hotels are SXSW passholders only, but i'm sure there are some that aren't.
we stayed here

was very cheap, with free wifi and just up the road from red river cafe (which is ace) - out of town a bit but still walkable to lots of stuff, like spiderhouse. Maybe need a cab in to 5th street though. i think we may have walked it - i can't recall now.
